Open Job: Mercer County
johndeere replied to Bobby Axelrod's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Souder was a coach for top Girls AAU program in KY (KY Premier) and had 5-7 D1 caliber girls on his team the past few seasons. I’d say the connection came somewhere during his involvement in the recruiting process - both Mercer & KY Premier kids. Back-to-back State Titles help get your name out there as well... lol -
Murray & Mercer County? 1st Round...

Living on borrowed time?? The defending State Champions starting 5 seniors all with D1 offers (one being Miss Bball) - AND bringing 2 D1 talents off the bench have survived their 4th straight 12th Region title based solely off some sort of luck? Give me a break buddy. -

Trevon does all things well. He sees the court well, he can shoot the long ball, get to the rim whenever he wants, and brings SO much energy to the court. Not to mention his attitude. You won’t find a better, more humble teammate than Trevon. Some of you may say “okay, what does this have to do with bball?”, but the kid doesn’t even have a Twitter. Trust me, it has everything to do with the kind of kid (and player) Trevon is. He would for sure get my vote if I had a say in it. -

I hope you are right so we have the two best teams playing each other for it all, but here’s how it ALWAYS works... The 12th Region with play the 7th Region the very first round and a somewhat decent team will have a cake walk on the other side and play for a State Championship. Two best teams almost never end up on opposite sides... (or so it seems lol none of this is factual) -

This would make sense to me. What we’re they supposed to do in Louisville for 7 hours? Hanging out in a different city all day with no shower or rest would have been 10x worse. Again, Mercer drew the short straw but that’s just how it goes. Not questioning the integrity of any of those involved with the LIT, but SHA fans seemed to know (and cheer loudly) for every LIT “helper” that was recognized at the end of the game. True road game for Mercer County. -

Fact of the matter is SHA put a running clock on Mercer and it wasn’t even close from the tip. Of course, the Titans had some rough games leading up but to answer the question of “why would the coach schedule those games?”.. The entire point in all of the regular season is to prepare for March. The LIT is designed to simulate the State Tourney. We saw the outcome. One team had a cake walk, the other struggled to get by and got embarrassed in the championship. I am in no way taking away from SHA because they played about as good of a basketball game as a team can play! However, I truly believe this would have been more like a 10 point loss for the Titans had SHA played the gauntlet of a path Mercer Co did. This loss will better Mercer Co in the long run. Nice little wake up call. -

You’re joking, right? 1. Seygan Robins UofL 2. Mykassa Robinson UofL 3. Molly Lockhart UofL 4. Grace Berger-IU 5. Blair Green-UK 6. Kiaja Harbison- St. Louis 7. Can’t remember 7th Nominated Anna Clephne - Ball State Emmy Souder -NKU Emma Davis - UT Martin Macey Turley- Murray St Taylor Clos-NKU Ally Niece NKU Emily Sexton-Butler Macey Gibson- Murray State Lexy Held- DePaul. You have to live under a rock to miss out on how big girls basketball has been in the state of KY the past few years. Either stuck under a rock, or mad your daughter/team doesn’t get a slice of the D-1 cake. Maybe a little of both? -

I can truly say I have no idea what you’re talking about Blueto! Mercer is top 10 in the country in several polls and has beaten multiple top 25 teams in the country and not a single thread about any of that. Come on now Blueto. Mercer County undefeated in KY and not even #1 in a few polls. But hey, Mercer is getting all the love, right? Campbell beats a team 67-18 and there’s a thread full of stats. Funny. Lol -
Campbell County vs Conner predictions
johndeere replied to CCHSBB's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Mercer played BY FAR the worst game I’ve seen them play in a longggg time against SHA, were down 15 in the 3rd quarter, and still came out on top. Mercer and SHA are the top two and Campbell is fighting to keep up with them. Just my opinion. The old timers should take a look at schedules... you tell me who is getting better! Mercer’s only losses are to two teams who have been ranked #1 in the COUNTRY at the time of the losses. The reason why you aren’t hearing how good Mercer is looking this year is because they are going out and searching for teams who will expose their habits and make them better in the long run. -

The rankings drop WAY off after about #6. So yes, I believe #2 is 20 points better than #11. I guess we shall see! IMO girls bball is way down this year. A lot of good talent, but after Male on the BGP rankings there is a significant drop. (Ps: glad to see BGP and AP polls having Mercer @ #1... how could they not be?? LOL) -

johndeere replied to bigfunky's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Lewis will be right around the 6 and 7 spot again this season. Her and the new transfer will be HUGE for the Titans this year. Transfer has offer from Eastern and Lewis developing into what looks like D1 talent... INSANE! 7 D1 kids and coming off a State Championship. Spots 6 and 7 would EASILY start on any other team in the state and could be the best player on majority of those teams. Mercer back-to-back State Champs!! -

Coaching changes @ SEMO and change of heart in terms of distance from home. -
Okay, dad, here's the deal.. The point he is trying to make is that your opinion on Girls High School Basketball in the state of Kentucky is far from valid if you have never found yourself sitting in the bleachers at an event Seygan Robins is dominating. You find yourself undeserving of having a valid opinion due to your lack of involvement in KY High School Girls Basketball. Never seeing Robins means you didn't attend the LIT, Raatz Fence/Oshea's Classic, Hoops for Harvest, #1 Mercer vs. #2 Butler @ Butler, or ANY of Mercer Co's 8 Sweet 16 games in the past 3 years... Your opinion is thus invalid due to your lack of involvement. Sorry dad.

Stay at NKU or return to WKU?
johndeere replied to retropop's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
I know things are crazy complicated w/ contracts and $$, but (for the kids/coaches) pick a place and stick with it. When the tourney switches from venue to venue, it becomes less and less special for the teams setting the goal to play in the tourney. Its always a dream for a teenage boy to play in Rupp Arena and the girls aren't even sure where they will be playing this next Sweet 16.. -
I witnessed firsthand two girls have a signing ceremony to go be managers/water girls @ an NAIA school.... lol:idunno:

If Mercer was excluded from the picture, the region would be WIDE open. Just don't see anybody putting together a full game to outlast Mercer. Buttttttt I've been wrong before and crazier things have happened! Best of luck to everybody in the 12th. -

It's a shame Southwestern couldn't travel Mercer last week (sickness). #1 scoring team versus #4 scoring team. Would have been a fun game and could have given us a better idea of what to think about that match-up! -

Officiating Question/Problem
johndeere replied to johndeere's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Touche! Unfortunately, basketball officials are human and these factors will affect them. Where my point that their understanding of the game and not the rules would need to come into play. I hate technicalities and believing that officials aren't influenced by the coaches/fans is silly. Not saying it should, just embracing that it will and giving my input of what is needed to make the correct call in these situations. -

Officiating Question/Problem
johndeere replied to johndeere's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Lol relax, that's not what I meant. All of those things are extremely important. All I'm saying is that one's ability to memorize rules can be thrown out the window when you're officiating in a tied game, loser goes home situation, with two passionate coaches screaming, 700 obnoxious Campbell Co fans about to run you out of the gym, and someone's career on the line. It's these situations that come down to one's knowledge and flow of the game vs their ability to memorize rules.
