Heard Souder accepted a college assistant position. Can anyone confirm?

Hard to blame him if true

Heard someone talking about it this weekend, but have no idea if true or not.

So was this a false rumor?

It has been confirmed today. He has taken an assistant coach position at Indiana State. Mercer County is officially an open job.

Any particular reason for going to Indiana State? Connections to coaching staff? Where is his daughter playing in college?

His daughter just got married. His niece is committed to NKU.

Souder was a coach for top Girls AAU program in KY (KY Premier) and had 5-7 D1 caliber girls on his team the past few seasons. I’d say the connection came somewhere during his involvement in the recruiting process - both Mercer & KY Premier kids. Back-to-back State Titles help get your name out there as well... lol

The coach he will be working for @ ISU (Vicki Hall), was very early in the recruiting of his niece and another Mercer player. She also worked hard to get her to commit to Toledo a couple years ago. Mercer even attended a Toledo Team Camp. So, the connection has been there for quite a while.

 

Coach Hall will do great things @ ISU and the hire of Coach Souder can only help.

I’ve heard Anthony Epps and Boo Brewer are interested in the job. I’ve heard that Jacqueline Young is also a possibility. I don’t know how true any of that is though. Just rumors going around town so far.

Our AD, Donald Smith, will do a great job with this hire. I do NOT know who the candidates are.... I don’t ask him. He runs a tight ship & we are fortunate to have him!

Spoke with Anthony Epps @ the KY-IN All Star game in Louisville. He is NOT applying for the Mercer job ... at least as of then he was not and sounded pretty confident he would not consider. Don't know anything about Brewer other than hearing about his interest. Hard to think he would leave Bardstown?
