HHS is young. People were seeing what they (desperately) wanted to see rather than the reality that this team is at least a year away.

Beechwood would be at worst #5 in 2A - not a state championship contender so it's probably best they play 1A for the rest of our natural lives. I digress - Beechwood wins by 3 TDs.

Long, hot season ahead. Still early - and it's wide open at this point. Soccer is unique among sports in that a lesser talented team can take a lead and never have to play offense the rest of the game. This could be the year for upsets come tournament time.

Scott County and it could get out of hand early.

Glad to see Walton Verona getting the recognition it deserves - that team could make a DEEP run this year.

Actually I said it last week - and was told a team from BG would have something to say about it. That may still be the case - and it's a long season so kids need to stay healthy - but CCH looks like the class of 5A on both sides of the ball. In NKy? Interesting how good offensively SK is with Shearer getting all the snaps this year...

Ryle showed a ton of character tonight - could have mailed in the second half and hopped the bus home. Instead they rallied and won in extra time. They can't have the CCH game back but the HC win could serve as a foundation for a strong run.

IMO SK is tough and under-rated relative to the traditional NKy power teams. Very skilled and fast up front, sound and physical in the back line. They also attack from a # of different formations and schemes. VERY well-coached team - and playing with a lot of confidence and focus early in the year. I'd be interested in a CCH POV on this game and both team's performance.

If the Highlands program came back to earth, it's bound to happen to SK at some point as well. Such is the way with public schools - regardless of demographics. Say what you will - Highlands had a swag born of talent and toughness. That's hard to replicate and hard to beat. As good as SK has been recently they haven't developed the same reputation Highlands once had. I personally believe it will be hard for Highlands to ever be Highlands again...

Regardless - nice bounce back win for a young Cougars team.

Reputation is a clear differentiator for the players and their competition. Ironically it's more beneficial when a historically strong program is "down." It can lift the players and undercut the competition during a year when talent may not be enough. One of the truest measures of a program's success is the degree and gravitas of name recognition. And the intimidation factor is very real.

Much ado about nothing. Hope they didn't change their stretching/calisthenics. Part of me thinks Cooper should be flattered - NCC may have watched the HHS game and walked away thinking "they have to be better than that. We'll check it out during the week." What are Kentucky policies on sharing game film? One would think actual game footage would eliminate the need for sleuthing - even if it is one game.

Mayer is a D-I QB signee - let that sink in. Kid's a legit, legit talent. He has a lot of weapons surrounding him - let that sink in. Cov Cath will score A LOT of points this year. If they can tackle, and unless a monsoon strikes every Friday night between now and December, they will win A LOT of games this year. I'm not surprised CCH looked so strong - and I don't see why anyone should be surprised.

Sergent didn't play RB for SK? Is he injured?

I think Mayer throws 3-4 TDs and CCH runs away from Ryle/Chisholm. Cov Cath 49 Ryle 27 It would be neat to see Ryle try a 50+ yard field goal - something tells me Molique would drill it.
