St. Henry 2 Highlands 1

Featured Replies

Final from Erlanger.

Crusader goals by Carter Kunstek and Evan Strassburger. Congratulations, Cru!

That grass is a huge advantage for St Henry. Possession based teams will have issues there.

Nice win for the Cru. Highlands coming back to the pack. Who IS the best team in NKy?

Highlands re-scheduling all remaining games for turf?

Ha. Wishful thinking. St Henry's field was thick yesterday. The ball wasn't moving well. It takes teams that practice on turf about 5 to 10 minutes to get adjusted.

They have been unlucky the last two games. A miss hit cross goes in for a goal. Shooting shoes have failed them. Just one of those weeks. The talent is there.

With my second and third boys now playing for the Cru program I will have to say that the grass is an adjustment for many teams that come there. And yesterday the ball was moving extremely slow. I thought Highlands played with much more intensity in the second half. The game was very physical and I thought the center ref did a good job of not letting it get out of hand. Maybe that's how all Varsity games are, it's been a while since I've seen a varsity game on a regular basis.

Highlands won Freshman game 3-1 with both teams getting multiple looks. Highlands went in and St Henry's did not.

Highlands won JV game 3-0 after a 0-0 first half. The Cru had a few good scoring opportunities there also. Bluebirds had two bigger kids that looked related that were very talented. One of them scored the 3rd goal on a nice drive along the end line to finish in the top of the net. I'm glad Highlands and CovCath are on the other side of the JV regional. That way we only have to beat one of them if we make it to finals.

The related boys are my twins. I will show them your post. They will really appreciate your compliment. However, the last goal wasn't scored by my son. He got credited with it, but it was scored by #10. The JV game was a tale of 2 halves. St. Henry had a lot of chances in the first half. Highlands looked frustrated. The 2nd half saw the Birds come out with a new focus and really attack. After the first goal, it looked like they relaxed and played with more composure.

I think our boys were banging shoulders early in the second half. Highlands has a really good program and I enjoy the competition we get every year. Good luck this year.

Those twins I have seen in indoor solid! Good kids and great touch!

Thank you. That just shows the depth that the Highlands program has right now. In years past they may have made Varsity with a couple other current JV players. This year they couldn't crack that top 17. Once the Varsity gets that experience together, they will be a tough team to out possess. It is a luxury to be able to go 17 deep and not see a drop in production. This will be a fun team to watch gel

Spot on! Good sophomores that play JV play for good programs. I'm sure opinions of the opposite view will follow but boys teams that have freshman and/or multiple sophomores getting quality minutes on their varsity team is due to a lack of depth in that program. And if you can't "crack" the top 14-15 on varsity you should play JV IMO.

I know the twins and they are pretty solid so highlands must be deep- sometimes coaches focus on upper classman so you don't really know.
