Playing at Cooper is by all accounts a great experience. This move won't backfire unless the parents decide to undermine the process and culture. Given the Houstons' backgrounds in competitive sports I highly doubt that will happen. Cooper vs CovCath shaping up to be another great game this year.

Cooper will see an infusion of talent to go with an already strong core.

I'd LOVE to hear the story as to how an All-American basketball player from West Lafayette, Indiana made his way to Dayton, Kentucky in 1932. He ended up back in South Bend - which makes much more sense. BTW - Wooden won his first NCAA championship in his 18th year coaching college basketball (16th at UCLA). In this day and age he'd have been fired by UCLA before he ever had the chance to become a legend. Doubt he'd have come back to Dayton if it had played out that way...

High Point is a country club that offers a variety of D-I sports as well as educational programs. I can see them as a program on the rise in the Big South conference - and a great place to spend 4-5 years in college.

This is true - and the level of competition also becomes increasingly important as the evaluation process moves forward. A reality as I see it is this kid is lined up to get a high-paying job in basketball and academics/community ties become secondary considerations. Over the next 3 years this discussion could have an "over/under" tone on how many high schools/prep schools the kid attends before a) selecting a college or b) entering the NBA draft (depending on status of NBA CBA in 2021). I think the kid will end up at a prep school for his junior/senior seasons.

Thanks for the update - I hate to hear about injuries, especially for HS kids. I am sure Ally will work hard in her rehab and I hope she makes it back for part of her senior year at SK. More importantly - I hope she heals fully and can look forward to achieving any sports-related goals beyond HS.

Coaches set the tone and reinforce the culture of their program. Wearing a hat - even in the summer? Seriously? Take a shower, brush your hair, put on your team's polo, and coach. In short - demonstrate the same modicum of self-respect and preparation you want to see from your players. I'm cool with shorts in the summer, BTW.

At his height the need to develop and demonstrate effectiveness would be better served by prep school. That's not to say bigs don't benefit as well - it's simply that there are fewer 6'10 players than 5'10 to recruit. There will be questions about his ability to beat D-I height/athleticism as a lead guard - prep school gives him a better opportunity to develop/showcase. I also feel the kid is ready for that level of competition - he showed up at Rupp as an 8th grader and owned the tournament. That can't be understated. I'm sure there are (very important) questions about what he/parents WANT and when would be the best time to make the jump - but I have to believe at some point in the next 2-3 years he moves on. Maybe sooner. Again - not trying to put down BG or Ky HS b-ball for that matter. Just my opinion that this kid is truly special and has a chance to play high D-I. It's also possible that BG updates their schedule to play more national teams (like SVSM did with LeBron). That would certainly promote a higher level of visibility/competition. Not clear if that's in the works.

This is big time - wonder how many of his teammates played for their local school - and how many will next year. I'm not putting BG down - it's simply that this kid is good enough to play at the international level - he could play at IMG or any national prep school/basketball factory of his choosing. This kid is special...

I do - would be a great fit. I'm glad for CJ. I know he looked at Butler - will be interesting to see if OSU becomes an option.

Cooper will miss Hendrix and Sean McNeil but they will be VERY good again this year. Might not score as easily but you know they will play great defense and outwork their opponents.

Game play should always be balanced with practice - which may/may not happen based on which coach/program you are talking about. Players should also have very specific development points - individually and collectively - during games. Games are where a player is most likely to revert to habits - good and bad. If there is no focus on changing bad habits then these games will reinforce counterproductive behavior, making it even harder for a player to improve during the preseason. When it comes to preparation, there is no substitute for game action and speed. However - simply playing games without taking breaks to practice, develop/improve required individual skills and behaviors, and implement/reinforce foundational team concepts (offense and defense) can result in scrimmages/games being counterproductive.

I would also say this whole thread just got sillier.

Conner scored 3 runs without the benefit of a ball hit out of the infield. They were very aggressive, forcing Dixie to make the play after the play. That strategy paid off. Henschen was huge in relief.

Michigan would be a lot of fun - Beilein's offense is a good fit. Puts players in the league consistently. Great academics and alumni network as well.

If this comes to fruition Highlands will take a hit and NCC will get a bump. Can't see how this will materially impact the end result for either team - neither will be in play for a regional championship. Like a soap opera playing out...

The game has changed a lot over the years, but one thing will always be true about basketball - really tall people get preferential treatment.

A rising junior - big summer ahead. He has a very high ceiling - if he keeps improving I wonder if Cal/Pitino would slow play him or pull the trigger. Some way to go, of course - but interested to see how UK/UL would treat a potential national top 100, in-state player. Will also be interesting to see where he and Allen stand with regards to ratings after the summer. I can just see the threads in July speculating about whether he will stay at Scott County.

Crean gone. Rising senior with high visibility through junior season - run of offers has slowed. Evaluation process by high majors will soon shift to 2020 class. Early signing period in fall. Xavier a top 15 school. There may be better offers coming - but the window is closing. I'm not seeing a clear path to a better offer.
