Beechwood's 2017 Schedule - Brilliant or Brutal?
Even if these games are front-loaded I don't see how getting physically pounded by CCH and SK will make you a better team come playoff time.

NKMSAA Girls/Boys 2017 Tournament Brackets
Those are 2 very, very good players. Skilled, tough, high IQ and motor kids. IHM coach does a great job. Both be great at SHDHS.

Jake Walter - CCH (Class of 2018)
What % is Jake shooting from the field? The reason his shots are limited may be due more to efficiency than style of play. A new reality of the game is that GOOD 3 point shooters are more efficient on pts/possession basis than VERY GOOD 2 point shooters. If Jake is shooting a very strong % from the floor and getting to the line a high % of the time then he should be seeing the ball more. If not, directing shots to CCH's more efficient scorers is a better strategy. My take is that Jake has been challenged by the coaches to be more consistent/efficient scoring the ball. He has come a long way but he is still the #5 scoring option on the team. With Ruthsatz, Frederick, and Mayer(s) returning next year - this IS a big spring/summer for Jake, primarily to work up the ladder of CCH scoring options heading into his senior year.

Cooper 65 Dixie 59
Nick did pretty well to get $ at Findlay. He was an extremely successful HS player and ended up at a very good D-II program. Fairmont State (CVH destination) is the #1 ranked D-II program in the country - another great landing spot. I think Ruthsatz had something to do with these players landing at those programs. ANY coach is going to answer questions from the college recruiters about ceiling, work habits, leadership characteristics, etc. If that HS coach is credible and gives a glowing review, it will absolutely help the player get to the best situation possible. It also doesn't pay for a HS coach to mis-represent - just hurts his credibility and the next kid in line for $ at the program. Another factor could be about the kid - do you want to go D-I and sit or go D-II and play? There is a difference in level of competition - a kid might be good enough to be 10th man at a D-I school, but also get recruited over year after year and play scout team with the walk-ons. Is that a better experience than seeing the court at D-II? Up to the kid. Ruthsatz is very credible and IMO influenced where his players landed. Sullivan is also very credible and would be no detriment to his players' recruitment.

Cooper 65 Dixie 59
He is signed with Bellarmine (D-II). If a D-I offer comes along what would it take for him to break from Bellarmine and commit and sign with the D-I school? This is a process question - not intended to spark a moral/ethical debate.

As long as he was directing it at a family member - well then, that's a different story. Cuss on, man! My final thought - people are critical about an aspect of a player/coach's game/skills/personality and it's over-interpreted as "so and so is an awful human being." Let's keep it in perspective. The guy used profanity. I understand it's a reality but still feel it isn't necessary. I hope he learns from it, and we all move on.

This language is unnecessary. I've also seen the JV coach T'd up for complaining to officials - absolutely no need for that. You get most of the talent in NKy - just coach it up for goodness sake!
-
Cooper 85 Campbell County 83 (OT)
Closer than I thought it would be. 51 total made FTs - that's crazy for the NBA! I notice Wilson did not score for CC and Ollier didn't score for Cooper. Did both play?

NKMSAA Girls/Boys 2017 Tournament Brackets
Fingers crossed the kid from Holmes doesn't go for 60 against Conner (again).

Covington Catholic 77 Beechwood 37
Ruthsatz was overheard after the game saying "as long as we win by less than 59 it's cool."

6th,7th & 8th Middle School Basketball
Awesome gesture by the Ockerman community. We need more stories like this across grade levels - there are opportunities in sports for everyone to win.

Didn't play tonight against Conner - injured?

Inside the 9th Region (1/31)
Upsets can always happen. I get the feeling that the 2 best teams at this point in the season will still be the 2 best teams at BB&T. Why? Not just because of players returning. Both teams seem laser-focused on playing their best game every game. You would expect 14-18 year-olds to let down and give a game away. While that could still happen, it sure doesn't seem likely at this point.

Cooper 84 St. Henry 25
I think a 59 point win sends a message - whether intended or not. Cooper and CCH are obliterating teams - each game it seems one tries to upstage the other. Can Dixie really hang with either team?

Beechwood 55 Ryle 53
Nice win for Beechwood. Tough to figure Ryle out. 9th region craziness...

Covington Catholic 82 Scott 46
Sounds like they played this game behind a woodshed. CCH playing very well now - players have stepped up to compensate for the loss of Frederick. That's a credit to their talent and culture. In order to have a chance against CCH you need at least 3 scoring threats and 4 ball handlers on the floor. They are relentless with their man pressure and their team defense is outstanding. Scott didn't have enough weapons to stand a chance against a CCH team that is peaking right now.

Inside the 9th Region (1/31)
Both teams will be back to full strength soon and I don't believe the gap between the two is so great that I would call CCH the "clear cut favorite." No reason to believe that if these 2 play in March at BB&T it won't be a game for the ages.

CovCath QB Mayer receives his first D1 offer.
Great offer - MAC plays very competitive football, and Miami is an excellent academic and networking school. Where in D-I spectrum do people see AJ landing? Could he start at a Power 5 school?

Sean McNeil Scores 1,000th Point
Ditto - I hope Sean and Cooper finish the season strong.

Cooper 69 Ryle 35
Great to hear - great news for the McNeils and NKY HS basketball!

How much time did S. McNeil get, and how was he moving?

St. Henry 71 Pendleton County 67
The "Dr. J and Mr. Rambis" season continues for PC. Hard to figure this loss out.

Cov Cath and Cooper could both compete for a state championship this year. The 9th region may be top heavy, but having 2 top 10 teams from the same region hardly qualifies as a "down" year in my opinion.
