From the update thread:

Cooper up 40-26 at the half.

Very close game early on, teams traded baskets for a large portion of the first half, I think they were last tied at 21.

Cooper turned up the pressure and finished the half on a big run.

Kunk has 17.

AND

Kunkel just scored his 1,000 career point.

Cooper leads 58-40 with just under 6 minutes left.

Thanks @Yellow Card

When Adam Kunkel scored his 1000th point they stopped the game and awarded him the ball. He walked it right over and gave the ball to his mommy, it was really sweet.

Congratulations Adam on getting 1000!!!!

Random Thoughts:

First time I have ever been in Cooper's gym, it is really nice.

The sound system at Cooper rocks.

The Cooper Dance Team put on a nice halftime routine.

I was disappointed the Dixie Cheerleaders weren't there because they just won a National Championship, correct?

Cooper has more depth than Dixie.

I thought Dixie looked well coached and they over achieve as a team. However, if I was playing them I would press them the whole game if I had the players to do it.

I like Dixie's big man.

Cooper has a lot of solid basketball players on their team, it is really an impressive group as a whole.

Kunkel was the best player on the floor and it's not even close. But he does get knocked around too much. I would like to see him add 20 pounds of muscle.

I was able to conduct a short interview with Coach Chevalier after the game. He is very dedicated and I was impressed with some of the things he told me privately. I don't want to speak for Coach but I don't think he would be upset if Cooper and CovCath played in the region and Dixie got the winner. :)

There was a nice crowd.

Lastly, at one point a Dad in the stands got a little upset with a charge/block call and he let the Refs know about it LOUDLY. One of the refs was holding back from laughing because (I believe) he agreed with the upset Daddy.

To the plus side on the Refs, generally speaking I think they let the two teams play without calling a bunch of ticky tacky fouls and that is good for the 9th Region.

@theguru I know the exact play that you are saying caused "said Dad" to get a little upset. I am not sure where you were sitting, I was close enough to hear "Dad" chirping at the ref closest to him, I think he was more humored by his comments in general... more so, than the call itself.

I agree with your assessment of the Refs from tonight, they definitely let them play but I thought they were consistent.

Correct. They are the Super Large Varsity Division National Champs. My guess is that all of the girls aren't back yet or just got back today as they won it on Sunday.

Per cincinnati.com:

Dixie Heights–Meyer 5 2 12, Schreck 3 4 10, Cox 1 0 2, Thornberry 4 0 12, Bradfield 5 5 15, Schwitzer 4 0 8. Totals: 22 11 59.

Cooper (23-4)–Hendricks 2 0 4, Kunkel 8 4 24, Collier 1 0 2, Runion 3 5 11, C. McNeil 2 2 8, S. McNeil 6 2 14, Rosser 0 2 2. Totals: 22 15 65.

Halftime: C 40-26. 3-pointers: C 6 (Kunkel 4, C. McNeil 2); DH 4 (Thornberry 4).

This was a very good officiated game. They let the boys play and didn't blow the whistle when minimal contact was made. Great flow to the game and enjoyable to watch. Great job by this crew!

Cooper has a lot of weapons on offense. How many different guys have scored more than 20 in a game for them this year?

I didn't think it was bad either and frankly it was as stark contrast from the Campbell Co. / Cooper game where if you breathed on a player the 10th Regions guys blew that whistle. 9th Region officials do a pretty good job of staying out of the game unless it's necessary. Albeit, the "Blarge" during the game was pretty funny by the one official trying to play it off like he was rubbing his head :lol2: All in all Pouncy and crew did a pretty good job.

I believe 5. Both the McNeils if I'm not mistaken, Kunkle, Runion and Walters I think. I believe Hendrix has had a couple of 15+ games as well so you are correct in that they have some offensive weapons and most nights any of the top 6 scores could hit the 20 point mark.

First, I agree guys, it was a very well officiated game. The game did flow great and was great to watch because the Refs were on point and both teams were very disciplined. Well worth the 6 clams to get in and yes everyone I pay when I go to games unless it is some type of special occasion where I am working.

@Yellow Card - Yes I was sitting right by that Big Oaf when he was "riding" the Officials. I even told him I thought it was the right call and because of the ball movement I thought the Ref was in a much better position to make the call than we were to second guess it.

That is awesome, too bad they weren't at the game performing.

And to add to your point I believe Hendrix could score more if he wanted to, so could Kunkel, but the Jags are very team oriented and constantly move the ball around looking for a good offensive match-up.
