Tale of two halves, both bad for Holy Cross and good for Holmes. First half Holmes led 29-15, Holmes was 9/10 from the line and made 4 3s I think. 21 of Holmes 29 first half points were from distance or the free throw line. I venture to say if Holmes shoots the ball like that consistently you're looking at the state champs. Holy Cross in the first half handled the pressure okay, just couldn't finish and was 1/8 (I think) from the free throw line. Second half Holmes did what they do so well, intense pressure, points in the backcourt out of the press, pretty soon the halftime lead swelled to 25, game over. I think these two are much closer than this, just a case of a bad night for HC and a really good first half shooting the ball for Holmes. Holmes' pressure is very, very tough, and they are definitely deserving of the top spot in the polls in NKY. Hopefully HC figures out a way to handle the press better and make shots to make the district and, maybe, regional tournaments more interesting.

If the number of alternating possessions is even, then no benefit to winning it. HOWEVER, if the number is odd, then the team that wins the initial tip gets one more possession than the other. In a low scoring game with a low number of possessions, that one possession advantage might matter.

Thanks. Then my guess is that it was deemed intentional because of the severity of the foul. Holy Cross bench was awarded a technical foul after the call, so 4 FT's and the ball awarded.

I think I can solve your misunderstanding either way, but is your perception about what occurred because you saw it and you believe you saw a punch delivered, or because someone you trust told you it occurred?

She tried to rake the ball as she went up, I really didn't understand the call, not flagrant or intentional. As far as starter being on the floor, they were still on the floor when the final buzzer sounded. In their defense, they've only had 7 girls play in varsity games according to the scoreboard So I am guessing their starters are ALWAYS on the floor regardless of size of lead or deficit.

That is a great accomplishment, and a great school, congratulations Trey and Wurtz and Freppon families. But to avoid an all-out assault by all of the MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Michigan and Purdue engineering graduates that are regulars on BGP (hahahaha) can we just call it "one of the best engineering schools"? I'd hate to upset those guys and have them hack the site into oblivion....

202 total points still falls short of the 206 I saw scored when Bryan Station beat Dicky Beal led Holmes squad 104-102 in 1980. Keep working boys, you'll get there.

Interesting to note that Franklin County leading scorer Miles is an 8th grader. She is really poised and a special player, but I am surprised she was Franklin's leading scorer and by this margin. And that is not to slight Simon Kenton, because I know they are deep and talented.

I don't know what year all the girls on the list are, but I do know that Kendall Wingler, a freshman at Meade County, averaging 25 a game is gettin it done.

Correct. And for full disclosure, CCH did not have Davin or Thelen playing frosh .... But they did have Jack Coldiron then. And I said "arguably" the best sophomore class. If we take CovCath out of the equation, I don't see an argument.

I admittedly have a dog in this fight, but I think I can stand outside as a Holy Cross fan and say that, for whatever reason, this team has not met the expectations that most had for it this year. Place blame where you like or don't, I just believed that with 3 varsity contributors returning from what was, for a time, the best team in the Ninth Region last year, combined with arguably the best sophomore class in the Ninth Region, the Indians would compete in every game, would have great difficulty beating Cooper and CovCath, but had a great chance at being the 3rd best team in the 9th after those two. Obviously, they have not performed any where near that level. Individually, if we are being honest, the only player that has approached expectations has been sophomore Ty Houston, who has been solid and often the best offensive threat on the floor. I hope they figure it out this year, and I continue to have every expectation that they should compete for a regional championship the next 2 years. It is not lost on me that that sounds like a pipe dream given this year's performance.

I am not old enough to remember it (barely) but I must say I'm surprised there are this many BGPers that do remember... The BGP demographic is way younger than that. I did hear about this game and team a lot growing up though, as the example about how "snake bit" northern Kentucky was in the state tourney. That perception only got worse when Holmes lost a heartbreaker in 1978 because the 67 CCH team and the 78 Holmes teams both had a Schloemer and both had the games won in regulation until a last second shot. It's great that both schools and the ninth region have exorcised those demons. Congrats guys, hope the game and tribut is packed this weekend. And not to further derail the thread, because I do respect and appreciate what this team did, but I think it is interesting that these 5 straight CCH region champs were followed by 4 straight from NewCath, then 3 straight from Holmes. Those kinds of streaks don't happen often, especially back to back to back.

Really like the Chip Gregg hire at HC. Architect of longest single season winning streak in collegiate history at NKU (55 games), inherits some talent at HC. Might be a good mix.

Daniel Campbell, I believe. Very nice player, plays with a very high level AAU team. Older brother is a sophomore playing at Conner.

Hey Q, have they played Cooper or Campbell County yet? Those were the two best JV teams I've seen this year.

Actually it is my understanding that it is in Covington? Can someone with the City of Taylor Mill answer, because I thought Covington city limits extend out Taylor Mill Road well beyond where Scott is located.

This game, this discussion, these players, illustrate a lot of what is good and bad about bluegrasspreps. Since the demise of the Enquirer and Kentucky post, there really is no media coverage to speak of about high school sports in northern Kentucky, and it is great that BGP fills that void. Unfortunately it also provides a platform to attack kids about how they perform, or sometimes to raise expectations to an unhealthy level. Caleb Jefferson is a talented player and a great kid, and I think he made a great decision to go to NCC because of the passion and basketball knowledge there. But I think the anonymous culture on BGP has made life more difficult, and probably has made basketball less fun, for Caleb and Nolan, and that's unfortunate. I am by no means an "everybody gets a trophy" or "don't ever say anything bad that might hurt someone's feelings" kind of guy, but it does bother me that a 15 or 16 year old - heck sometimes even a 12 or 13 year old - might decide they don't want to play anymore because they don't want to face the fallout on BGP. And that happens, I promise you. It's a tough balance, I know, but to me it is like pornography was to Justice Scalia .... I know a comment that goes too far when I see it. Most BGPers draw the line near where I draw it .... Discussion about the game, the good plays and bad plays, even about the players, is okay if you keep in mind that the players are often very young men and women that are playing and competing because they love the game. As a guideline I would suggest applying a modified golden rule before posting .... Don't say something about a 15 year old kid that you wouldn't want someone else to say about your own 15 year kid. That should keep it in perspective.
