I presume CovCath was one of the losses? What was the score of that game, and does Dixie have a chance of pulling it off on Monday?

Walton had had a very difficult path to the get to the finals, having to go through Conner and Highlands .... tough to win 3 games in a day. Congrats to both teams.

Extremely high IQs on Highlands side sometimes makes up for lesser size and athleticism. I wasn't there tonight so I don't know if that entered into tonight's result, but I know that is a great win and I know Highlands plays very, very smart basketball, so I will leave it at that. Congratulations Birds .... I didn't think anyone in the Ninth would knock off Holmes .... Quite an accomplishment.

I am really interested in hearing more about him. Has he ever played up? Does he play AAU? And if that 1300 points number is correct, in middle school basketball, does that mean he's averaged over 20 a game for three years? I would have expected those kinds of numbers to be a kid that would play up. Anyone have any insight?

How big is Davin that plays frosh for CCH? Has he been their leading scorer all year? Has any northern Kentucky team played CCH close this year? I seem to recall that they lost 1 or 2, but I thought that was Trinity or an Ohio school, and I didn't recall even seeing a close game with any Ninth Region teams. Anyone got the CCH record and results? For that matter, anyone have records of others still in the tourney?

What news was that on? I couldn't find it and I'm intrigued. What grade is he? Has he played on multiple teams at the same time to get to 1000 points? That is a boatload of points for a middle schooler ....

I think the game is a little more than just a district game between two neighborhood schools at this point. Not saying it is a Duke/North Carolina level thing, but most of us view Beechwood as a program on the rise, maybe the best talent it's ever had top to bottom in the program, and CovCath is the king-of-the-hill at this point. Nothing wrong with showing how dominant you are, until it crosses the subjective line of "bad sportsmanship", and I'm not aware of CCH crossing that line. Good win CCH. Next .....

Great event. Always well run and a great tradition. In recent years they have even added live radio broadcasts of some games ... kudos to the group at CCH that are the stewards of the tournament. I couldn't open the bracket link just now, so I am curious as to whether Simon Kenton or Walton or Campbell County (or Scott for that matter) are participating.

I could not agree more. Kid is a competitor and an athlete, and I am very happy to see him get an opportunity at the next level. I do hope he does not slam the door on baseball, though, because he has been good enough to play shortstop for Midland, and that puts him in some pretty respectable company (Larkin, Lewis, etc.). A fair number of MLB careers were incubated at Midland ....

Not surprised at all by these dreadful numbers .... and sometimes you can write off shooting percentages like that to tough defense ... this was not one of those times. Bad shooting on both sides, just a little "less bad" on HC's part.

I think there are some fundamental truths in this result. First, HC has more talent than their record indicates. I didn't even think HC played that well ... I would think they shot less than 40 percent, maybe less than 35, and had way too many turnovers. Second, and this may be unfair given the little that I've seen them, but I was not terribly impressed with LC.

Sounds like most challenging 9th region opponent for Holmes yet ... By a mile. Hurst and Jordan must have handled the pressure pretty well .....

LB is correct on the venue and feel of this tournament .... anyone that dismisses it as "small school" basketball hasn't been here. Having said that, big congrats to Monroe County. Honestly, having seen a little of the Murray first round game and then watched Monroe take down Holy Cross, I would not have expected this. Way to step up girls. Now go win the whole thing (so I can at least cling to the "at least we lost to the eventual champs" thing).

Seems like more kids are playing up this year than typical, which affects this tournament. Am I correct in assuming Draud (others?) won't play for Beechwood, Jefferson or Kramer for NewCath, Salter for Highlands, Maher (others?) at CCH .... who will field the best teams for this tournament?

Pretty sure its always been at CCH. They own it and do a great job every year.

He's going to wind up in a big conference, SEC, ACC, etc. Kid is a very young junior, younger than a lot of sophomores. If you factor that in, and you think about the attention he would be getting if he was just now a sophomore with that size and developing skills, I think the ceiling is very high. I think he winds up being the most highly recruited big out of northern Kentucky. Sometimes he gets lost amongst the depth of talent at CCH, but I think you gotta remember where he is on his development curve because he's so young.

Going to miss the 9th Region representative on Wednesday morning then, eh?

Saw Haley play a couple of times last week, saw her honored on the All A regional tournament team, great week all the way around. Congratulations, and good luck. She also has pulled in a large number of rebounds in her career, and excels in the spring in track events. Well done!
