2014 Jack Kaelin NKY Freshman Invitational Tourney

The Jack Kaelin Freshmen Tournament (formerly the Ninth Region Freshmen Tournament) draw will take place soon at Covington Catholic.

This year, there will be sixteen teams trying to take home the Championship Trophy in this prestige Northern Kentucky Freshmen event, that has taken place each year since the early 1970’s.

After the draw, I will post via a excel file, the dates, times and locations of each game along with the match-ups. I will also ask the CovCath AD's office to post the Bracket on their web site for all to see.

I realize that the daily papers won’t have room for each game stats in their printed section but hopefully they can add the games stats to their on-line daily paper.

I will after each game try to send out a report of each game or if that is not possible, then after the end of the days play: Example of what I will be sending out and up dating on BGP's

Quarter Scoring

Team 1 04-08-06-07--25

Team 2 05-06-07-08—26

Individual Team Scoring

Team 1

#23 A. Smith 04

#24 Jones 08

#25 Luck 06

#26 B. Smith 07

Team 1 Total 25

Team 2

# 1 Harry 05

# 2 Little 06

# 3 Large 07

# 4 Small 08

Team 2 Total 26

I will then post who they are going to play or might play and the date and time of that game: Example

With the “W” Team 2 advances on to the second round and will play Tuesday at 7 pm at CovCath Vs. the Winner of the Team 5 and Team 6 game that is to be played later today.

Hopefully the weather cooperate this year and all the games will be played on their scheduled date, location and time!

I hope this meets all of your needs and I am looking forward to another successful, exciting and fun Freshmen Tourney.

If new members would like, you can do a search of past years tourney's to see how entertaining, exciting and fun this tourney has been over the years.

Naming the tournament for Jack is certainly appropriate. This tournament has been his baby for many, many, years.

I remember coaching our (Brossart) freshmen in this event back in the late 70's/early 80's and probably have some of those old blue print programs around here somewhere.

As always, a fine event put on by the freshman coaches in the area. Freshman sports are often overlooked, but this tradition continually allows young men access to the big stage.

I am glad this tournament is named after Mr. Kaelin. Can anyone tell me if he is still keeping the book for CCH? If so I hope he does the 9th Region Tournament again this year. The tribute they gave him prior to the 9th Region Finals almost brought a tear to my eye! Always love seeing good people get the recognition they so deserve.

Mr. Kaelin in now in his 51th season of doing the Book for the CovCath Basketball teams.

As far as the Ninth Region Tourney, have yet to hear who Holmes (the Host School) will be getting to do the Official Book.

I think it would be safe to assume that Mr. Kaelin will be doing the book for the tournament. :ylsuper::ylsuper::ylsuper:

Of note there aren't any seeded teams this year due to the many cancelled games caused by the local weather.

The draw this season was a complete blind draw, where each team (via Alphabetical order) picked out a number to show in which number order they would pick to draw out a number. Then starting with team #1 each team then drew a number from 1-16 to decide which spot they would play in. Below is the draw.
