NCC Press Release:

Newport Central Catholic High School is proud to announce its fourteenth class of inductees into its Athletic Hall of Fame: Dan Shea ’56, Keith Ruschell (posthumously) ’73, Quinn McMurtry ’86, Eddie Eviston ’97, Lori Kevill Stammen ’98, and Nicole Chiodi ’04. Also being honored as the “Team of Distinction” is the 1997 State Champion Softball Team.

The induction ceremony for these men and women will occur on Saturday, February 15, 2014 in the Newport Central Catholic Gymnasium. The evening will begin with a social hour at 6 PM followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at 7 PM.

NCCHS will be awarding the Coach Jim Connor Award to Mr. Ralph Meyer. The Coach Jim Connor Award is an award being given to Mr. Meyer for exemplifying the ideals and traditions of Newport Central Catholic and for the excellence he has achieved in his work and his personal life. In addition, the Fr. John Hegenauer Community Service Award will be given to Mr. Roger Wagenlander, for his commitment to Newport Central Catholic and to the family values NCCHS strives to impart to its students.

All proceeds from the event directly support the athletic programs at Newport Central Catholic.

From what I understand they are just moving the NCC Vs. Holmes game up and leaving the CovCath Vs. SK game as it was. I believe NCC has some function that is going on that night that they want to attend. Maybe a NCC fan can explain!

As far as Greene! Honestly have no idea! You should in a PM ask Walter.....

Greene came over from Newport middle. He has played frosh and JV and dresses varsity. He has nice hops can throw down a dunk. Still raw but definitely athletic. I am sure will be another good one in a very talented frosh class!

There are a lot of great names on that NCC list. I would just like to point out Mr. Shea for his contributions to NKY as a player, coach, teacher, father and mentor. You will not find a better person, I had the honor of playing baseball for him 35 years ago, then he was my son's golf coach last year. Mr. Shea is a very humble man that has contributed to the NCC and St. Henry/Erlanger community his entire life. He has four wonderful children who all were excellant athletes. You will never find a bigger Fighting Irish fan. Mr. Shea was a major influence in my upbringing and many others that he has touched. I am very happy NCC is giving him this day of recognition!

Please remember, that the Saturday's 7:30 semi-final will now be played at 4:30. We had a conflict with a team and had to move it up.

4:30 Holmes vs. NCC

6:00 Simon Kenton vs. CovCath

Should be some nice games. I'll stick with NCC and CCH going to the finals.

Here's hoping for some great games, well played and injury free.

Will you be kind enough to give us updates today? It was really nice last week while I was working, made the day go by faster. Thanks again!

NewCath beat Holmes by 9, waiting for the final score.
