Vaught is one of the fastest players in the state, bar none. His combine times and track times stand behind it. I'm sure Brents from Waggener and Moore from Trinity are in that conversation, too, but Livers and Witherspoon are not even in the vicinity. Witherspoon might be a better true athlete based on his shiftiness, versatility (catch, run, throw) and of course his basketball skills.

Trinity's QB, also a first year starter, has some REALLY nice stats, too. For an undefeated highly ranked team against one of the state's toughest schedules. Bohn had the best (most yardage) single game passing regular season performance in the HISTORY of Jefferson County football. And Smock is an awesome lineman at St. X and will be playing at a Power Five school. Mayer is a great player. But because of the talent level out west, I do NOT see him picking up many votes, even for third place out west. Which makes it extremely hard to win Mr. Football.

This game does NOT show it (because of North Oldham's record), but this matchup is very intriguing. I'm NOT sure, even with better record and D-I SmIth, that Spencer is a heavy favorite.

Moore is only player in state history with two games of 20 receptions in same season and BOTH were against elite competition. I'm not sure how many votes Mayer would get west of Lexington, but that's where most of your AP voters reside. Moore is a big name out here. So is Jairus Brents. Even if Moore and Brents split votes over here, I do NOT see Mayer getting many votes above third place on WKY, CKY and LOU ballots (not when those guys have "home" vote players to include).

LaRue should go 9-1 and they'll be undefeated when they take on E'town. But that will be another case where the team with the WORSE record (E'town) will be the OVERWHELMING favorite. And I would love for the one joker who keeps voting LaRue Number 1 in the AP poll to reveal himself.

North Hardin is considered a good passing team because: It is 6A It passes ... a lot It scores points ... even if it gives up 40 plus. However, based on performances and stats, North Hardin is simply not a good passing team this season.

North Hardin's NFL qb rating BEFORE the Boyle game was 57.7 (NFL) or 98.82 (NCAA) using the NFL, NCAA, AFL - Quarterback Rating Calculator quarterback rating calculator. They're a passing team. Not a GOOD one, though. Meade County, not known as a passing team, is the only team from 6-A, D-2 with a NFL passer rating above 75 and a NCAA passer rating above 100.

SW receiver JP Vaught (# 11) will be one of the fastest players Central Hardin sees this year. Elite speed. Reigning state champion in track I believe. SW also predominantly run, which is par for the course for Larry French teams. They will try to run in down your throat and keep you honest with Vaught.

I do NOT understand that Friday setup. 5 hours between games on Friday, but 3:30 between games on Saturday. Why wouldn't they do 3:30/7 or 4:30/8 on Friday to allow more folks to work half a day?

Look at post 10 in this thread. 3-A Elizabethtown also running clocked NH. Why would you think Boyle, which is clearly getting better, would have more trouble than Elizabethtown against North Hardin, which is struggling?

According to CalPreps, North Hardin's 50th overall in the state and 20th-of-33 in 6A. If that's "pretty good", then Kentucky apparently has A LOT of "pretty good" teams. That being said, every team North Hardin has lost to is ranked in their class. Most pretty high.

I'm not concerned in the least bit. The metro areas already have schools with great athletics to overcome. In other areas, those schools would never get built because they would not get voted in OR the financing to get it built. It's not like putting a new restaurant in an empty commercial storefront. Schools and athletic facilities are much larger, more expensive and tougher to keep up to date and up to standards. This charter thing has been floating around for a little while now and I have yet to see even ONE single viable plan to get one up and running any time soon. The budget cuts will not help that time table, either.

Yup. When private-hating folks in my Hardin County area try to argue boundaries, I point out several high-profile athletes at 5th Region PUBLIC schools who did NOT play at their home school, but rather at public schools in other counties. If being a private school is such a huge advantage, then Bardstown Bethlehem in the 5th Region and Christian Fellowship over in WKY are doing it way, way wrong since they are basically the only private schools in their districts/regions and do NOT have many, at all, region titles to show for it.

Fwiw, Ashland is sixth by the MaxPreps computer, sixth by the CalPreps computer and ninth by the Herald-Leader computer. But they all take in OVERALL results and not how teams are playing CURRENTLY. Big difference. Second, overall record should NEVER be in the end-all, be-all when it comes to human-produced rankings. About 10 years ago, Trinity opened 0-4 because it was playing out of state powerhouses and some folks wanted the Rocks out of the top 10. Trinity still won the title that year. More recently, LexCath is playing an absolutely brutal schedule THIS year. I do NOT care what the Knights' record is, there are not ten 3A teams better than the Knights.

With tonight's 50-14 win over North Hardin, E'town has put up 50-plus in consecutive games for the first time in 13 seasons.
