  1. The problem with letting assistants vote too is that it can sku the voting two ways (especially in areas where other coaches refuse to vote or are oblivious to a coaches association): 1) You get TOO homerish. You make sure YOUR kids are represnted over the ones who really deserve it. 2) You vote for non-deserving kids over deserving ones because of your hate for another program. I can't count the number of times I saw coaches vote for an average Joe with hopes other coaches would vote honestly. That way, your kid gets on. In reality, what happens is other coaches vote dishonest, too and you get some screwy teams.
  2. In "modern day" (1975-present), yes. Tied overall margin record from before 1975 era.
  3. There are two lines of thinking here: 1) Have long-distance teams play late so they have more time to get here. 2) Have close/local regions play extremely late or extremely early. Thing is, I'm NOT sure how you prove how effective it has been. Weather, size of school and support are all just as much of a factor as is game time/travel time.
  4. It's actually the overall girls postseason (district, region or state) record if you check the dates of the other teams which hit 16 or more in a game.
  5. Mercer County's 16 made 3s today (in the Ky state championship) tied Mercer for ninth most in any girls game in KHSAA history. BUT, it is the @KHSAA POSTSEASON girls record as the other 15 teams which hit 16 or more in a game did it in the REGULAR season.
  6. The No. 26 player was honorable mention, but not even in the top 10 in her own region. The No. 34 player in the state wasn't even honorable mention in her own region. Granted All-Region voting and the watch list voting are two completely separate votes, but still ...

  8. In the last week, Shelby County High School has posted head varsity coach opening for BOTH its boys and girls programs: Shelby County - TalentEd Hire
  9. I think this is all coming from a rivals.com story last month about Stanford trying to flip him. Herron's twitter account mentions nothing about Stanford, though.
  10. There was a Madisonville defensive back in the last few years that played at Michigan.

  13. I've been told college fields HAVE been offered before, but at the time, the coaches' association/board did NOT want to play single-elimination. Baseball is one field/stadium. 15 games. Softball is 30-31 games. Huge difference why a college could never be used previously. It will be interesting to see who bids now. Not sure who has the biggest college stadium.
  14. Scott County scored 80 points in the first half, which is the most by any KHSAA team in any half since 2003.
  15. Spader got the BGHS AD job in June, less than nine months ago. Will he be able to do both, or will he have to give up AD?
  16. Monday-Friday, I am the receiving clerk (handle paperwork/data entry for all inbound UPS/Fed Ex/Roadway/Old Dominion Freight lines) for the Best Buy regional distribution center in Shepherdsville. At night and on weekends, I occasionally write for the Courier-Journal. Before that, I spent 15+ years as the senior high school writer for The News-Enterprise daily in Elizabethtown.
