There are two lines of thinking here: 1) Have long-distance teams play late so they have more time to get here. 2) Have close/local regions play extremely late or extremely early. Thing is, I'm NOT sure how you prove how effective it has been. Weather, size of school and support are all just as much of a factor as is game time/travel time.

It's actually the overall girls postseason (district, region or state) record if you check the dates of the other teams which hit 16 or more in a game.

Mercer County's 16 made 3s today (in the Ky state championship) tied Mercer for ninth most in any girls game in KHSAA history. BUT, it is the @KHSAA POSTSEASON girls record as the other 15 teams which hit 16 or more in a game did it in the REGULAR season.

The No. 26 player was honorable mention, but not even in the top 10 in her own region. The No. 34 player in the state wasn't even honorable mention in her own region. Granted All-Region voting and the watch list voting are two completely separate votes, but still ...

I've been told college fields HAVE been offered before, but at the time, the coaches' association/board did NOT want to play single-elimination. Baseball is one field/stadium. 15 games. Softball is 30-31 games. Huge difference why a college could never be used previously. It will be interesting to see who bids now. Not sure who has the biggest college stadium.

Ran into a couple of MC supporters (team was STILL in locker room when I left, and this was 30 minutes after game) and they confirmed it was true. They didn't even know the logic behind it. That was Mercer's fourth game in 3 days. They might not have had an established area to crash and figured $1,000 bucks on hotels weren't worth it. Can't blame them for that.
