Class 4A

Johnson Central is starting to pull away from the field after both Wayne County and Collins took substantial losses to Boyle County in successive weeks. Undefeated Rockcastle County is starting to garner some buzz as the next potential team in line, as they are the only other undefeated team in the Top 10, but they will need to validate that momentum against a stout Somerset defense. Class 4A does have another surprising undefeated team. Logan County is off to a shocking 5-0 start and should make it six in a row against Hopkins County Central. Ashland will definitely get their shot at Johnson Central in due time, as the Tomcats are slowly climbing back up the rankings and made headway by crushing rival Ironton, Ohio.

1. Johnson Central vs. Boyd County

2. Wayne County at Clay County

3. Collins at Spencer County

4. Rockcastle County at 2A #8 Somerset

5. Ashland at Rowan County

6. Franklin-Simpson at 2A #7 Glasgow

7. Shelby County at Franklin County

8. Hopkinsville -- OPEN

9. Mercer County at Marion County

10. Western vs. Breckinridge County

How does a 3-2 Ashland deserve a #5 ranking?

BluegrassPreps does not rank teams based on records, teams are ranked on performance. If you want Rankings based on records, take a look at other rankings, that is one of the biggest problems with rankings performed by other sources.

Here are the Top 10 teams in Class 4A based on record:

Fair enough. But, Ashland's best win is against 1A#5 Raceland. There are better wins for teams you don't even have ranked. For instance, Bourbon County has a win against 2A#8 Somerset.

Bourbon County who escaped one of the weakest 4A teams in the State 12-7 a week after losing by 30 to Madison Southern?

Ashland's best win is probably against Raceland, as you said, but they also beat a Russell team that was ranked at the time and played one of West Virginia's best team to a one score loss. They also beat a historically strong Ironton Ohio team.

Bourbon did beat Somerset in the first week of the season, but only beat a Rowan County team by one score that is having a lot of problems this season.

Against Rowan County, Bourbon County had 6 STARTERS out for that game.

Starting QB- out

Starting RB/LB--out

Starting WR/Safety--out

Starting LB-out

Starting CB-- out

Starting OT--out

Bourbon's Star receiver had to play QB the entire game. And just for good measure, the HEAD COACH was SUSPENDED for the game.(yes that's true)

Tell me who on the list below Ashland deserves to be higher?

A 3-2 record with a bad loss (Harlan County) doesn't warrant a #5 ranking but I get the "homer" factor. Not gonna argue about it. No big deal

Ashland isn't #5 because of any "homer" factor. Ashland has been playing better ball every week since the Harlan County game while a lot of teams that were ranked above them have regressed, it's as simple as that.

Also, Ashland lost to Harlan County who has a 1-4 record with one of those losses being to Hazard. Somerset beat Hazard & Bourbon beat Somerset.

It was the first game of the season and Ashland started the season with essentially all new offensive linemen, their starting center was out as well with a broken snapping hand. Since then the line play and offense in general has been playing better every week. The close loss to a very good George Washington team is more telling about where Ashland stands at the moment than the early season loss at Harlan County.

Who would you put in front of them? The only team I could even think of is Shelby County but they don't even have a win against a top ten team and barely squeaked by a bad Bullitt East team last week.
