Female athletes at Beechwood work side by side with football now ... Plus .. this is an all sports facility ... the girls teams benefit in the exact same manner as the boys.

Cov Cath had a great meet, as did Highlands. There were some great performances on Friday night. My favorite performance of the night was by pole vaulter Doug Long from Campbell County. Long skipped his prom to stick around to win the pole vault.

All of this testing is great .... but we are getting to a dangerous point. The reason why = we are now speaking more about helmet testing than we are about proper technique. Very rarely does an athlete get hurt by NOT leading with their head and using proper technique. Things are starting to take a more dangerous turn .... It isn't just about helmets.

Good points. There is constant conversation from coaches when it comes to changing the state meet to something that is closer to this format. At the end of the day .. it makes very little sense to me that a team like Cov Cath has 4 guys in the 100 who have faster qualifying times than certain regional winners. Definitely not so fair to the kids in particular. The KHSAA has done a good thing by allowing the 10 fastest times/distances, etc info the meet (after the regional winner/runner up). But that is restricted to kids who participated in the regional. That still excludes kids who are better in many cases. The thinking is (from some of us anyway) ... is that we can show some value in a meet format like this (maybe something like a "Super State" meet or something along those lines. I doubt that the KHSAA will ever make a huge change like that .. but they do seem to listen lately. As far as Area 5 goes ... the format is basically my decision (based off of how the Louisville Area runs their All Louisville Meet). At the end of the day ... to get the best talent in a meet ... you have to get the best kids in. The only way to do that .. is to open it up (not make it too exclusive). This way we catch everyone.

It is very common. Many schools have different girls/boys coaches ... so they treat it like they are different teams (which they officially are). St. Henry is the same way, as is Highlands and a bunch of others.

This is one meet where having great depth helps a team. For instance--as of right now--CCH has 4 young men who qualify in the 100 meter dash. All 4 of those guys are in the meet, plus, all 4 can score (teams are not limited to 2 scoring athletes per event). Also, there is no four event limit for participants (that could help or hurt depending on how good someone is). In the end ... this is more of a college type meet--where the best runners run regardless of any predetermined participation limits. You can see the rankings at http://www.beechwoodtrack.com (top left hand corner--Area 5 rankings--or something to that effect).

No camera at this meet. The official called it at the line ... and we didn't argue. The Wood came out on top in the 4x200 in a tight race ... so I was okay with the call. On a related note ... the Area 5 meet is coming up this week (Friday at Dixie). Cov Cath will be tremendously difficult to beat (especially with the format). The girls side will be more of a toss up. I am pretty interested to see how we do running our first meet (we are partnering with Dixie on this one). Come on out ... it should be a good one.

I am not kidding you at all. 1. The comments above about Mayfield being the best in the history of Class A occurred around the time of the "Classy' 75-6 defeat of Fulton County. Draw your own conclusions. 2. My only comments regarding Beechwood 91/97 are this .... THOSE TEAMS WON--and that is all that matters. We don't sit back and thump our chests about beating inferior teams by 70. It is over and done with ... and we don't feel the need to pump up our egos by bragging about how many teams we put against a running clock. Like I said ... if that makes the Mayfield people proud .. by all means ... you have earned it. From there ... I will bow out of the conversation. And to make your little ego's feel better .. Mayfield is the most dominate program in the history of all Kentucky Football!!!!

This just proves that you are looking for trouble .... They didn't even have running clocks then. But if it makes you guys feel better about yourselves ... Please ... By all means ... Keep bragging about running clocks.

You may want to look up 1997 while you are at it. Very tough schedule ... Plus a lot of people have said that Beechwood had the best team in all classes. As far as the rest ... I realize how bored you guys must be down there .... So I will let you have your fun. L

Thanks VOR. We have great kids. We have great parental support. We have great support from our administration. We have a great coaching staff. It's pretty easy to make things work when all of the above works together.

My vote goes to Smitty. He is a great candidate ... who will get the most out of the kids in Erlanger.

Don't believe everything you hear .... I would say that the number is closer to 5% than 50% (for the entire school). You can walk down Beechwood Road at 3:00 pm and realize that the overwhelming majority of kids at Beechwood live in the neighborhood.

Clueless ... Beechwood has 3 out of district kids .... Which means by your math ... there are only 6 kids in the football program? Doubt it.

I think that we both know otherwise! I also think that Dale hasn't forgotten the fact that he took over play calling duties in the freshman championship game when these classes met ... and feels that he could do a better job overall. And it has probably been in the back of his mind somewhere since then. I think one thing that all of us know ... is that Dale does not shy away from revenge opportunities ... I wish things could have worked out ... but they didn't. I am sure Dale feels the same way.

Yeah ... because we all know that no one was/is/or ever will be good as Highlands .... yawn ....

Oh yeah ... one more question for you .... Have you ever taken time to talk with Coach Hicks? Maybe get his perspective on things? I bet I know the answer to that one .....

Your sense of sarcasm stinks .... You need to realize that outside of you and basically one other person ... people are is agreement as to what the issues are. There was a lack of player leadership and toughness. That theme has been consistent all year. It hasn't changed. Why you think the coach never made attempts to address that ... is something I will never know--because the proof is there. At the end of the day ... your thoughts are your own ... you are entitled to them. However .. it may help to see things through objective eyes (which I doubt you could ever do).

Sure sounds familar ... doesn't it? I have my thoughts on it ... but those are best left unsaid at this point. Good thing the big guy is back as the head track coach. What I am willing to say ... is that there are people in Hebron who feel like they need to have a voice in everything--when they obviously don't have a clue. This thread being a prime example. All I know is what I have seen and heard with my eyes ... and things have changed out there. All I will say ... is smoke and mirrors. Smoke and mirrors ....

Ohhh Nooo ..... Rational logic just entered this thread! Finally something that makes sense in this thread. As a coach ... I continue to find it to be hilarious that people think think that motivation is only the coaches job. It's a two way street ... And in this case ... I have watched this coach with my own eyes for years. I am sure Jim could do things differently ... But motivation is not something he doesn't pass along. Before long ... There will be no decent coaches left at Conner ... Because of the whining from the "chosen few"
