All good questions, Gov. The situation wit the track has more to do with the shape of the corners on the end closets to school Technically .. there still really nothing stopping anyone from having a meet there ... but I think many schools would shy away from our track simply because of the shape. The lane situation isn't a huge deal .. other than the fact that any meet there would be pretty small. The one thing that could happen ... is a field event meet (if the school were ever to purchase a cage--or if the baseball cage could fit the correct dimentions .. which it may). We are actually partnering with Dixie to host the 2nd addition of the NKY/Area 5 Elite Invitational on Friday, May 13, 2011 (Invitation only pitting the 16 best participants, regardless of Class or entry limits in NKY). It will be a great chance to get our parents involved in running a meet. In the end ... it is great to have a track to practice on .... so I am not complaining! "Officially" the season has already began. Beechwood starts on 01/10/2011. The Class A State Championship will be held on May 28, 2011 at Cardinal Park. However .. there is some built in down time in our schedule between the indoor/outdoor portions of our season. At this point--we will most likely attend 4-5 indoor meets (with our elite competitors possibly going to 1 or 2 more) and then 8-10 Outdoor Meets. Our schedule will be significantly different than it has been in the past (the Boosters stepped up big time to help us with this part). IT will probably be 65/35 local vs travel meets (we needed the improved quality in the schedule--to showcase the talent of athletes like Brianna McCarthy--she is ranked 2nd in the state going in to the season--and we need to make sure that she gets the competition that she needs. We will also have some other girls who will benefit from the new schedule (Shannon Redfield, O. Miniard, L. Miller and a boatload of the boys) We have a large middle school group--and our goal for them is 6 meets (the more experienced ones will get some Reserve/Varsity time if their mental/physical ability is ready for that step. Hopefully this answers your questions .. if anything else comes up .. let me know!

As of 01/05/2011--there are over 90 kids who have signed up to be part of the track and field program. If that number can stay above 60 .... it would be phenominal.

My biased thoughts? GREAT POTENTIAL! Right away, the girls team has the chance to be extremely successful right away. Brianna McCarthy will lead the field events (two time defending state champ in the Disc--and the most likely favorite in the shot put). Lauren Miller also has the ability to score a LOT of points in the throwing events at the highest level. Olivia Miniard and Lexi Hunter are great returning sprinters. Shannon Redfield, Alex Keller, Maddy Schwarz and Mackenzie Rylee all have a great deal of potential in mid-distance/distance. There are a few big guns inside the school who could (and hopefully do) make a huge impact as well. Besides the obvious (McCarthy) Redfield will be a huge surprise to everyone. As long as the girls realize that the coaching change is a "good" thing--and will help them improve beyond last year--they can easily be the surprise team of Class A. Boys ...... lots of unknowns at this point. But what you end up with is a very solid core of successful athletes. Cameron Vocke, Dane Everett, John Cardosi, Drew Verkamp, Father Scott Mescher, Taylor Davis, Alex Brennen, Josh Bradley, Max "Big Smoke", Nussbaum, Gage Erdman, Brett Eyckmans, Corey Cruse make up a solid nucleus that should be able to complete in Class A immediately. This core group of athletes is used to working together (surprise surprise!), so their expectations are extremely high. There will be some growing pains with the boys (teaching them how track works), but by the end of the year--I would suspect that the sprints/field events will score a boatload of points. The keys for the program is changing the culture and getting the younger kids inside the school involved. Track is a sport where you can involved a large portion of the student body. Developing middle school talent (and involvement) is an absolute must--and will be a priority. It will also take some time to develop the distance aspect of the program (a little easier to do in track since there are more chances to score sprint points). There has been great support from the school (which is extremely important) and the Boosters (which is even more important when trying to take a track program to the next level). As far as where these teams end up in the grand scheme of things ... I will let someone else make that prediction! Correct ... Peter Carlson broke one ... Jason Johnson broke the other in 1991. Fun playing on that team ... I still have big pieces (that were basically held together by the border) of the backboard somewhere.

No reason to be done .... This tells me a little more about where you are coming from. Bradley will be a big loss. The middle school program definitely keeps things going in the right direction. Do you really think that Cooper will win the district? Conner has a LOT coming back next year as well ... and they probably have a pretty good chance to win the district as well. One thing that this district needs to realize (even if it is easier for these two teams) ... no one is winning the big trophy until the defenses step up a notch. All the teams that win the big one can flat out play defense. I love that some of you think you know who I am .... almost like my own little fan club. (But be careful .. pretty sure it is against the rules!).

Ha, ha .. pretty sure I know what kind of progress Cooper made .. but whatever. I am "probably" a football novice as well .. and you probably wish that I would stick to track and cross. As far as Cooper goes .. lets not let the FACTS get in the way of a good argument. Wins from 2009: Shawnee 42-20 (Record: 4-7) Scott 28-27 (Record: 2-9) Newport 27-12 (Record: 2-9) Final Record: 3-7 Total Points Scored: 203 Total Points Against: 323 Wins from 2010: Scott 54-6 (Record: 2-9) Lloyd 63-7 (Record: 2-9) Newport 26-19 (Record: 5-6) Final Record: 3-7 Total Points Scored: 291 Total Points Against: 279 Progress? Yes. Great (like CoopJag said). I don't see it. I think that most people on here talked all season about how this district was pretty close (with the exception of Ryle). Heck, Cooper played a lot of the same teams close in 2009 (compared to 2010). Here is a question ... who will take the place of Bradley--and will that player have anywhere near the impact that he did (because he was a HUGE part of the offense). You can say what you want .. but the above facts are what they are. I am sure there is plenty to be excited about at Cooper. But I think that some of the people here are blowing things out of proportion a little bit.

Ha, ha ... for real? You are right .. I was not there (thank goodness--I may have been blinded by such greatness) Win those games ... then you can make your claims about greatness. Otherwise ... you are getting way ahead of yourself. Now--I will agree that they are making great progress. What I won't agree to .. is that a team that hasn't even won a district game (especially considering that they are In a 6A district with a lot of parity--but still middle of the road) I guess I need to remember--that so far Coopers claim to fame consists of almost beating one good team and two average teams--plus a small school freshman championship (when they were actually a "large" school). Please forgive me .. I am obviously a football novice.

I would love to hear about all the "great success" that Cooper has had .... not to knock it .. but they haven't even been around long enough to have "great success". Pretty sure that they still haven't won a district game?

I will go out on a limb and say that it will take exactly 158 days.

Hmmmm ... interesting. First Vocke with basketball ... now Nussbaum with baseball. Maybe some one should start a Beechwood Track and Field thread so we can talk about all of this talent!

Game was much better than the score indicated. Beechwood kept it fairly close for the vast majority of the game. Beechwood cut it to 9 with 7 minutes left to go. Conner did a good job of taking advantage of their bench--which kept them more fresh through out the game. Once Beechwood cut it to 9 ... Conner went on a nice run to enlarge the lead. The big guys were good for Conner (nice touch more than anything). Last thought .. if there is any kid in this area that plays harder than Max Nussbaum .. I would be surprised.

Good question actually ... no derogatory intent felt on this end for sure. Boys that will make it so good = Vocke, Everett, Erdman, Brennan, Cardosi, Bradley, Cruse, Mescher, T. Davis to name a few (and there are a boatload of others as well--those listed will be standouts). I know of another name that could be on this list who may/may not play baseball this year (as far as I know--that decision was made before track came into the picture--which is my understanding anyway. In other words .. it won't be a decision to dump one over the other. Not to mention ... anything could still happen at this point. But I have to admit--the boys track program will be in great shape with that one-IF it happens). There are also some very talented kids at Beechwood (who are not football players or baseball players) who will find their niche with track). By the time that you spread that talent out between sprints, mid distance, throws and the horizontal/vertical jumps ... I would suspect that the boys team will have a great start. (Combined with the talent in the girls program = bad news for everyone else). I don't know of any other baseball player who would consider giving up baseball for track ... and quite frankly ... I hope it doesn't come to that anyway. There are more than enough athletes on that list to get the program started. At the end of the day ... Coach Myeroff has his system in place ... and I don't think that anyone wants to mess with what he has going on--he is respected greatly by the track coaching staff and that won't change. Kids who are committed to baseball have not even been approached for track out of respect for the coaches and players who have worked hard to build the baseball program. That won't change.

I understand your point. However, you are talking about someone who wants to play football at the next level--and is willing to whatever is necessary to get there. I find it a little disengenuous that anyone would question the decision when he was bascially playing Reserve ball. (I am sure he would see time on the varsity level). I am not real sure why he is letting his team mates down--when he would have been sitting the bench or getting minimal playing time.... but whatever. There is no other time in this kids life where he has "let his team mates down". With that in mind--I think that the right move would be to realize that he made a decision that was best for him (for once). He is as unselfish as they come .. and should have to hear about stuff like that. From my point of view, there are times when you have to make tough decisions in life. He made one--which from his point of view--was in the best interest of his future. I happen to agree with him. Cameron will do VERY WELL in track--and he works extremely hard in the weightroom at all times.

Nope .... If Cameron decides to run track ... it will be a great decision. The Boys Track team will be absolutely loaded this year.

I will agree with some of that to a certain extent. That still makes your previous post easily misleading--and most likely a flat out lie. But ... if you call offering intimate knowledge about things that I know, for a fact, that are wrong .. so be it. What I will say is this ... I often wonder if you guys (who think you know me) have a real clue ... because nearly all of the things that I have been accused of saying and doing ... are 100% incorrect. Which again--means you either don't have a clue who I am ... or points to some real questions with your credibility. Funny thing is ... some of you cowboys act like you know who I am ... which is funny ...because you have never questioned me in person (doubt that will ever happen) one time. But again .. I know that will never happen ... much easier to hide behind your shield of internet invincibility.

Find one time where I said it. I just don't feel the need to hide from reality. Maybe some of you spend too much time burning bowling balls in your free time or something .... but I would be surprised if you find one post where I actually said it.

WRONG AGAIN. He was out for 3 series (right at 20 plays). Which ended up costing dearly. If you want the tape ... let me know where to send it. (I already know that you won't want to verify the truth though) As far as your "Golden Boy" comments .... no one here (UNTIL YOU) has sunk to the point of naming players here. I am so impressed that you felt the need to do so. Please say all you want about the adults .... but when you sink so low to start pointing kids out--and make it obvious who they are ... you make it very obvious that your intentions are nothing other than spite. I can't say that I am surprised though .... this happens right on the sidelines in ear shot of the kids (I am sure you will make a comment about the coaches--but there are a few "adults" who make the coaches look like amateurs). That happened before I typed the name of the person in question. Either way ... I said what I meant--which is that Mayfield is a great team. "M.Y." wouldn't have helped tonight.

Sure looks like someone isn't telling the truth. I may have mentioned the name ... but you obviously knew who I was talking about. (Or--you were making some broad statement about people with illnesses. But ... whatever. I think the original poster knew what they were doing (which is why they used the initials in the first place instead of the name). I I think most people realize that I was making the statement that Mayfield is pretty freaking good--and good ole' M.Y. wouldn't have made a difference. As far as your neighbors go .... some of us do actually hope that you are doing well (even when you open the wrong can of worms).
