  1. JD ... you are all over it. It was great to see you as well! Things are just about to get interesting .... besides the heavy hitters that Beechwood already has ... we get Nussbaum, Erdman, Davis, Eyckmanns, Cruse and possibly a "high jumper to be named later" .... And just in time for Mason Dixon/Indoor State Championships .... .... ....
  2. You are the one that needs to lighten up. You made the insinuations ... not me. Not to mention ... YOU ARE STILL SAYING IT. And ... there is no possibility in the world that this coaching staff has quit on the kids. For you to continue to bring that up speaks to the pathetic nature of your comments. My suggestion ... go talk to Coach Hicks and see if there is a "possibility" that he or anyone on his staff has quit on the team. If you are going to state it on a message board ... you should have the guts to ask him to his face (I am not going to hold my breath).
  3. You deserve to be blasted ... much harder than you were. It doesn't matter if you said that someone told you that or not .... the mere implication is bogus ... and slanderous not to mention .... a down right insult. It is the exact same thing as saying that the kids have quit on the season ... and I just don't think that is the truth either. On a related note ... I am sure that Coach Hicks would be the first person to tell you that he isn't pleased with how things have went during the regular season. I would also say that Coach Hicks has made his name by getting teams with mediocre records to finish strong in the district/regional tournament. If this team plays uninspired in the district ... and completely burns out ... then you have a case. Until that point ... there are other areas where you would have more of a valid point.
  4. Interesting meet this week at Mason County. Beechwood boys win their first meet as a program. Great improvments overall. And it would appear that Cameron Vocke made the right move by focusing on track. He has already landed a 40'0 triple jump, a 19'3 long jump, as well as going 7 low in the 55 and being part of the winning 4 x 400 meter team. Alex Brennen, Dane Everett, John Cardosi, Scott Mescher, Harry Tomlinson also greatly contibuted to the scoring effort. It will be great to get all of our girls back as well (a few injuries ... plus the rest were allowed to cut out early due to the big Winter Formal). There is a great deal of potential with our Middle School girls (who finished 3rd) and our middle school boys (5th). Our parental envolvement is also exceptional. That alone made things very fun for our kids. When the parents show up in mass like they did on Saturday ... it really makes the enviroment special for the kids. Great things are happening!!!
  5. Fairly often .... but overall ... it isn't a situation that is super strange.
  6. Most have started ...or will start soon. A lot of teams have been running meets since the 1st week in January.
  7. I don't know Clyde .... I figured you looked at that results link like the rest of us. If not .. my bad. Uncle Roger was starting to feel bad emotions from his fellow CONN*R grad!
  8. You need to fish with better line, Clyde. The official start date for practice is the first week in December. Otherwise, there would be about 200 teams in major trouble with the KHSAA. (I have a feeling that you already knew that though)
  9. The Beechwood/Walton comparison isn't anywhere near as close as some of you would like to think. Not to mention ...aren't they moving up?
  10. Ha, ha ... just remember ... you will eventually hurt Uncle Roger's feelings ... but for real ... nothing there. Completely different type of athlete. Plus, we made a living at Conner working with kids who were not football, baseball or basketball players. This situation is significantly different as well. Everyone is on board with the program. Not to mention .. at the end of the day ... everyone at Beechwood actually works together to try and make things work for all programs. That doesn't happen everywhere. I wouldn't expect any problems at all between any of the programs. If anything ... I would expect a lot of flexibility amongst all teams, coaches and athletes. The enthusiasm is pretty strong. It is even stronger after this past Saturday. The boys really didn't know what to expect from an indoor track meet ... and walked away with the thought that it was a pretty cool deal. I really don't care to single anyone out ... but the young man above (and the rest of the girls/boys we had on Satuday) are the real deal. The meet went very well. Right out of the gate ... our boys middle school 4x800 team won--which basically set the tone for the entire day. We had one goal for the day--which was to learn (girls and boys) what to expect from each other. Well, next time our goals will be significantly higher. Our kids were in the slow heats all day ... and we placed MANY in the top 6 (against some solid competition). Being in faster heats would have results in some wins. Lots of potential in the sprints (girls/boys), jumps, throws, distance. The difference between this group of kids and others I have been around ... is that we didn't have to convince any of them that they were there to be successful or to leave everything on the track. The effort and the ability to learn was higher than any group I have ever been around in track or cross. When you take that fact--and combine it with kids that will be in the program from swimming and basketball ... I like our chances.
  11. Come on Clyde ... quit fishing with baseball. Losing one kid that wasn't going to play this season to begin with isn't hurting Beechwood baseball. Not real sure what you hope to accomplish by bringing this up when it has already been addressed. We are talking about a completely different demographic athletically. To answer your question .... we will start with all Class A Teams in NKY. Whether our team is ready to compete at the highest level remains to be seen. Our girls are established with enough talent (old and new) to win big immediately. At the very least ... our boys will throw a huge monkey wrench in the plans of some of the traditional Class A powers ... and our best ..???????
  12. Sure hope that Brent Thompson gets a shot ... I know he has wanted to come home for a while. I think it is time he gets his shot.
  13. Good to hear. Any time you need some "inside information" ... or want to know what is going on with the program ... let me know (email, IM here, give me a call). The meet itinerary went up on the website today (basic meet information). The meet scouting report will go on the website by 12:00 pm on Friday (more indepth meet information). Hopefully this helps.
  14. Sssssshhhhh .... I am trying to follow in your footsteps ... and lie about everything related to my favorite team ... ssssshhhhhhhh!
  15. Geesh Gov .. I am starting to wonder if you are a parent in our program! If so ... give me a call and we can talk about this stuff (I don't mind the questions at all! But if you are a parent--my info is on the website--I don't mind talking to you either). But ... here are the answers to your questions: Where is the meet? Mason County Is it for boys and girls? Both--we are one team--and will do everything together. Are all the kids going? Everyone who is eligible to participate will be on the roster. Girls/Boys/Middle School/High School. (We are waiting on uniforms--which are on the way--but that may hold us up. We are also working on a plan to account for that situation if things do not work out right). Are there field events too at indoor meets? I assume that there are, but not sure. Yep--Shot/Long Jump/Triple Jump/High Jump (Not sure what our participation will be out side of the throws--simply because the weather has made it tough for us to practice the jumps). We got a little techinque work in last week--and have it in the plan for this week as well--but the snow is making things difficult right now--and we try to never work on jump stuff in the hallways--due to the pounding it would cause from the concrete floors. Do you expect much involvement/attendance from the parents at these meets? I expect parents to support their children. (which never seems to be an issue at Beechwood). Do they have to be at the meet? No. Would I "recommend it" YES!. The Boosters and a group of parents are working hard behind the scenes to build this part of the program. As the year goes on, I would expect some cool events that you don't normally see at track meets (which will be put on by this group of parents). Our team is really doing well. They are working to increased expectations(young and old) and do a great job of working together. The only issue that I have noticed so far ... is that whenever I send paperwork home with the kids to give to their parents ... it rarely makes it home (good thing everything is on the website just in case). But ... that is pretty normal with kids these days. If you need anything else -- let me know.
  16. Umm .. he weighs 205-210 (as of Friday when I saw him).
  17. When you open the Beechwood 2011 thread .... I am sure that I will participate. I can only hope you will enlighten the rest of us with your knowledge regarding the knowledge of being "Beechwood Aged"
  18. Ummmm .. I don't think so. Why don't you stick to the TOPIC and comment on the "2011 SIMON KENTON SCHEDULE" (that is the thread title ... just in case you don't remember) You brought it up .. why don't you enlighten us .... seeing as how you apparently know so much about that class. Stick to what you know ... which isn't NKY football.
  19. Hey Ram ... you could always try to get the Rams to step up to the plate ... wonder how that would work out for you?
  20. Scotty is really doing well so far. It is tough to tell a kid to run for 40 minutes when they are not used to use to it. Scott has really done well with the transition. Scott is physically "designed" to be a distance runner. He also has the mental make up to be a distance runner (he doesn't let stuff bother him .. and he keeps the environment loose for his teammates). We need to score some distance points to have a chance to win the State Championship. Scott will be the one to do it. A couple things here ... 1. Spring football has always been more about teaching basic techniques at Beechwood .. so if any of the football kids did miss ... not so sure they are missing a lot. 2. We have a head football coach who is 100% on board with the track program. Coach Rash knows what it will bring to the table--and has already worked the schedule out so NO football kids miss weights. 3. I have a crazy feeling that we will "work it out" .. (come on Clyde .. like you didn't know! 90 percent of the boys are football players ... of course we will make it work!) Correct .... a few boys (kids who spent time at other schools) have participated in the past ... but nearly all the boys are new to track (for the record--all these boys look like "old pros" ... none of them conduct their selves like rookies). In regard to the program in general .. there are MANY new kids out (girls included). We have some great returning girls .. and we have added some huge heavy hitters who want to be part of the program as well. The girls team is pretty balanced in regard to talent (great potential in the sprints/distance/hurdles/jumps/throws) .. the boys need to add a few distance guys ... and all should be great. To any of you curious about the program .. stop by some time and check it out. It is pretty cool to see a 100 kids of all ages zooming around on the track!
  21. Wow .. pretty cool that old Falmouth High School was brought up ... my Pops was quite the player in that old gym .. up to his Junior year.
  22. Correct. At one time they were ranked #1 in the State (I think that was after they beat Cov Cath in the regular season). Highlands beat them at Conner In OT (more than a little controversy at the end of that game!) They ended up being the 3rd seed (due to unexpected loss to Dixie) and got beat unset in the first round against a Paul Rain's led Montgomery County team.
  23. I "think" and I may be wrong .... but they may have lost to Conner during the regular season that year?
  24. There is no cross over. There is no one from baseball that wants to run track .... and there is no one from track that wants to play baseball. The only one who played baseball last year who is now running track is Max Nussbaum (and he wasn't going to play baseball this year anyway).
  25. My thought is that he will do very well. He is quick as heck off the line ... has great turnover--and is really working hard to be successful. I think that we also have the makings of a couple great relays (Vocke, Nussbaum, Erdman, Brennen with plenty of depth after that). The key will be getting everyone in the right spot to maximize our points.
