  1. And unless you are George Zimmerman ... you will never understand if he was truly profiling Trayvon Martin or if he truly wanted to kill Trayvon Martin ... on and on and on. See how that works? The part that I love ... is where this is a race issue .... is it still truly a race issue when two minorities are involved? I think the problem that everyone seems to forget here ... is that we are all human beings. I am not a "white" American ... TM wasn't a "black" or "African" American. We are all freaking human beings ... and until we start treating each other as equals .. without the constant qualification of race to appease each others feelings ... it won't stop. If that offends anyone ... I am not sorry. I see people as human beings ... everyone gets a first and second chance ... after that ... you need to work a little harder for it. You are right ... I am not black ... (which in your book means that I will never understand). But ... I am a human being ... who has been treated very well in life ... and at the same time ... I have been treated very poorly. Are you really that arrogant to think that black people are the only people who are treated unfairly because of the color of their skin? Seriously ... the arrogance of that statement is amazing. People do mean, horrible nasty things to each other every single day .. and I agree ... there are morons on all sides who try to hurt people because of their race .... but guess what ... most of the people who kill/rape/steal ... are flawed human beings ... whether by circumstance or an inability to calculate/understand the feelings of others. And until you realize that everyone needs to do a better job of being better people ... there will never be improvement. So ... if you meet me on the street ... just know ... I am going to like you or not like you based on our interaction ... from the looks of your posts ... your comments don't really sound like you would handle things in a similar way. If that is the truth (and you are the only one who can say whether it is ... or it isn't) then ... don't you come off being just as bad as you claim Zimmerman is? I hope, someday, we will have a chance to someday make up our own minds about each other (and yes ... I know I wasn't involved in your posts ... but it spoke pretty loud to me).
  2. This thread is great for enjoyment ..... but ... there are a couple things that need to be addressed: 1. "Quicker Than Slick" does NOT = "quickslick" (anyone who knows me has a clue about my writing style .... and no ... I am a Conner graduate ... so I am not smart enough to fake it). 2. Even though no one is truly "Quicker Than Slick" .... I think that, whoever this is--is doing a great job. I do want to be clear ... if anyone truly thinks this is me ... I am more than willing to provide my IP address ... or any other information to prove that fact (besides ... isn't this the time of the year where I would be spying on Conner practices?) My last thought is this ... until WE (Everyone involved) beat Mayfield .... there is nothing to say.
  3. I was originally on board with your quote .... and was going to say Meth ... But when I did the close up ... no way. My guess is now ... "Weed" .... Someone had the best answer ... "Smell them .... " that should make it pretty easy.
  4. Great point! I knew that I was missing someone ... and for whatever reason ... could not remember. (Which is really weak considering the fact that my brother used to spend some time with John). Man ... he could play. I remember him showing my brother and I hand written letters from places like Colorado (who was pretty good at the time). Some where in my rattle trap brain ... I remember him having a 6 or 8 TD game against someone. I believe he may have coached at Boone for a year or two in the early-mid nineties.
  5. Yeah ... I could have been more clear ... for me ... "Soft Blue" = Carolina Blue! Back on topic ... it does surprise me that John Ransdell isn't getting more play in this thread. Naturally .. Boone has had a ton of great running backs over the years ... But his performance kick started an amazing streak of RB's. For instance: J. Ransdell B. Black J. Colemire (injury affected his play--and also opened the door for S. Alexander) S. Alexander Lots of yardage gained from that group.
  6. How far back is that? I have pictures back to the1988 uniforms that are soft blue .... and as much as i hate to say it ... they need to change back to it ... that is Boone County Football. The Navy blue looks horrible with the gray.
  7. To give some extra perspective ... most of the time ... especially with the increased speed of the game ... you rarely see D-Ends who have outside contain responsibilities anymore (non existent in college and in pro football--and high school is not all that far behind). If you check out the break down of where teams ran against Beechwood ... teams rarely got outside (which--if you think about what you said about Max .. that would make more sense). As far as putting pressure on DB's ... well .. I guess it depends on your definition of a DB (just like DE's .. times have changed ... and someone who may have been called an Safety in the past ... is much more like an LB now). And on that note ... the strength of last years team (and this years team) is skill players. Guys that can run--that have the potential to make plays all over the field. I would much rather have those guys playing down hill to the outside than a 230/250 pound DE. Also ... think of it like this ... would you rather have some bangers up front--who try to control the inside .. and let the Max Nussbaum's of the world use their speed to make plays all over the field ... or would you rather force commit/him to play B to B? For me .. I want him to be able to run. Same thing for Kinman. One thing that I can tell you ... D-Ends are not underestimated at Beechwood. Overall--there have been some of the best athletes (D. Mainello, B. Slusher, Drew Davis, Dane Everett, Kevin Mitts, Neico Teipel, D. Everett) in the program play there (last year was tough due to injuries .... which speaks to why there was 8 different starters in the position). But the fact of the matter is ... Beechwood's defense is designed for the athletes to make plays (which Max did often--and Nate and Colin did when they were not injured). A dominant defensive end in our scheme is going to be someone who can squeeze the front .. and play back out LATE. When you think about 2007/2008 ... things were handled at the LOS ... because personnel dictated that (and the LB's--while gutsy/gritty players .. were not the most talented athletes and just had to play B to B). Where again ... someone like Max would be wasted if he sat inside and took on blocks all night. As far as 8 different D-Ends go ... that is purely an example that speaks directly to the type of injuries and situations that we battled all season.
  8. Good thoughts across the board .... To clear something up ... Defensive Ends at Beechwood rarely have contain responsibilities (5% to 10% of the time at the most). They are considered heavy inside players. While the group from last year may not have been the best in Beechwood history ... they did improve (and when you consider the fact that 8 different D-Ends started last year ... Not directly related to defense .. but related to Beechwood .... Are there really people worried about seating for the Skyline game? This one makes me laugh ... simply because Beechwood rarely fills their side of their home field ... and rarely outdraws many of their opponents (it has been this way for a LONG time now) I will end with a question ... when is the last time that Beechwood filled the stadium for a game? ... Maybe CovCath ... NCC is usually well attended. Outside of that people could justify their argument much easier if this place seated 500 as opposed to 1200.
  9. I have a feeling that you are talking from experience?! To this day ... any time I see soft blue ... I still want to throw up!
  10. I was just in the other day (Edgewood). My wife pulled in the circle ... and requested a wheel chair (smartest move ever). They took me back immediately ... waited 2 minutes for a nurse. Saw the doctor in less than 10 minutes. Now .. I am sure it is not all that busy on Monday mornings ... but there was a lot of activity in the back. In/x-rays/treatment/out in about 1:30.
  11. I think Preston was still a year or two away in 93/94. Alexander was the primary back in both of those seasons. Brian Mainey would have been the power back in 94 .. and I am pretty sure he played defense as well. In 1993--it was Alexander and Jason Colemire, Chris Dittus also played in the backfield/at wing with Mike Bramlage as the at QB. When thinking about Boone ... Ryle definitely ended up having a huge impact on the program. The LB's that I talked about earlier ... all played together one year (not to mention that Harris and Law played together). They have had some solid players recently .. but they definitely have not had LB's like that in a long time.
  12. There are some really good names missing here ... *Steve Harris (LB--probably in the top 3 in NKY Ever .. and yes .. I mean .. EVER). *Troy Sturdivant (LB--Overshadowed by Harris most of his career) *Jim Ferguson (O-Line) *Bryson Warner (LB) I am a huge fan of Brian Mainey ... I feel like he belongs in the "Underrated" thread more than here.
  13. The date is 9/20/2013 ... current time is 7:00 pm.
  14. I must have done a poor job blocking for you, hoss. The TD was on 3rd down ... then the back flip ... (1st down gain of 4--444ICE/2nd down gain of 3--446ICE/3rd down 3 yard TD--444ICE) As far as Duval goes ... he ended up right around 2600 yards ... in 13 games (2 less than Melvin played in his senior year .. and yes .. I know he missed time in a few with injuries--not to mention that he was in the backfield with 2 other good RB's and a QB who could run a little as well). Duval's junior year--he played in the first 4 games of the season .. and was right at 1000 yards. As of now (not counting this coming season) my three: *George Duval *Melvin Miles *Trevor Stellman
  15. Clueless .... as always. Duval played against a much tougher schedule .. with higher yardage totals his senior year. He could run around you ... but most importantly ... he ran over people when everyone in the vicinity of the stadium knew where he was going. There were more than a few games in 1983 where Miles "disappeared" for a period of time in a game .. where the Shotwell's picked up the load. Good example: In 1993 SK was 7-1 coming to Conner. 7-7 at halftime ... 310 yards later (in 2 quarter for Duval) it was 49 to 7.
  16. Ha, ha ..... there was a pretty good QB back in the day ... it seemed like he enjoyed walking up to the line of scrimmage ... and put the "mute" on the defense ... wonder who that guy was? Good call ... as of right now ... George Duvall is in the top three (and IMO .. #1). Other names in the mix: Anyone named Shotwell, Troy Cole, Duane Hudson, Dustin Alvey, Cody Wolf, David Morris and a ton of others. If you tied me down on a top three: George Duvall Melvin Miles Trevor Stellman (3rd Spot is interchangeable right now ... and could change by the end of the season)
  17. I am usually the first one to hammer away at 40 times .... but .... I will say this ... Chuevront is real deal fast. Is he 4.3/4.4 fast? Most likely not. But ... at the same time I am willing to go out on a limb ... and say that he is one of the faster kids I have seen in Kentucky the last few years. Football and track are different animals ... but ... in track ... he beat a 2 time defending champion in the 100 (Andre Klassen--who just so happens to be next level fast as well). So ... even if he is not a 4.3/4.4 guy ... he is one of the fastest kids in KY right now. Good luck to both ... this will be the first of many offers.
  18. I hate to be a tease ... but some of the rumors in the Fort today ... wow. Really bad story floating around about why this happened. So .. not sure I want to float any rumors out there ... but ... I wouldn't mind sharing stories with anyone via PM. And Guru .... this is exactly why I ended up with my previous thought process (in our other conversation) ....
  19. It is going to be one heck of a cafeteria! Good luck to the new coach. I am sure our paths will cross sooner rather than later ..... and we will do whatever we can to help him out.
  20. For Max ... it was day by day. The way the schedule worked out--Max did not miss any track meets. If track had practice--Max went to any/all baseball games. As the season went on ... it was apparent that Max's involvement in baseball was going to be limited. What I can also say--is that from day one .. Coach Mullins was on board to try to make things work with Max (Max had approached him about trying to do both and he was willing to give it a shot). The burden of communication fell on Max .. and Max alone. We made a schedule--to visually see where the conflicts were. We never kept Max for practice when there was a baseball game. Baseball never kept Max for practice when we had a meet. The few times that there were conflicts ... it usually worked to where it was an important meet (like Conference) where baseball played a team where Max was not needed. The truth of the matter is ... Coach Mullins was completely committed to doing what was best for everyone (Coach Myerhoff was the same--with Grant Birindelli--who also still plays baseball--even though he is ranked as one of the best freshman distance runners in the country). I feel like we were committed to doing what was best as well. To go further .. the situation would have been slanted more to baseball if Max were more important to baseball. For me--it was easy to be flexible (especially after leaving Conner) when there are coaches committed to doing what is best for all programs and for the development of the kids. There are times where it may be difficult .. but it is a million times easier than not having those kids at all.
  21. There are TWO that would help (after Nussbaum and Erdman graduate and leave the track program). No doubt that they would help .... but the number is not higher than that ... which still leaves significantly more speed/talent in track (does not mean that there is not a LOT of baseball talent ... there is .... ie: Combs is a GREAT baseball player ... who would not have an impact in track). Combine that with the fact that Fort Campbell, St. Henry, Walton, Glasgow move out of Class A track next year ... I don't see any change in the talent distribution to the track program. In three seasons .... the track program has become a top five program. There is a football coach who works hard to share athletes .... (which is something that he does .. that he does not get enough credit for). If basketball is willing to work in a similar manner ... things go very well for them. If not ... it makes things a little tougher. Good luck to the new coach ... whoever it ends up being (I don't dispute who it will be--don't spend a lot of time patting yourself on the back when basically all of your inside information about the timing has been wrong).
  22. For once ... VOR ... we disagree. There are more kids in the track program than football and basketball combined. Not to mention ... with the exception of a few kids ... all of the spring talent is on the track team (which is not going to change to begin with ... and when St. Henry, Walton, Fort Campbell move up to AA in track next year ... there should be many chances to win the big one). The only concern that I would have (and nearly all the kids) ... would be this ... Beechwood is a small school. Academics are most definitely FIRST. From there is a spirit of cooperation with all of the athletic teams (for instance ... you can't tell the Max Nussbaums of the world that they have to choose between track and baseball or .. you can't tell him that he can't lift weights after basketball practice. As a coach or leader of an activity ... you have to find a way to make things work). Most basketball people (not necessarily coaches) are not real big into sharing guys. From my point of view ... if you can embrace that thought process ... you can have a pretty good basketball team at Beechwood. If you can't .. you may end up with 2 freshman and 10 8th graders sitting next to you on the bench. It is a completely different mind set than other schools ... ...
  23. You know .. for once .. I agree. It is kind of like adults creeping (and reposting) silly comments by high school kids ....
  24. Thanks for filling in the gaps, JD .... real interesting considering some of the comments on here from a certain poster.
  25. Ha, ha, ha ... you have no clue who ... or what you are dealing with .... Pretty sure I never said "four" ... If you can prove that I am "making them UP" ... then by all means ... put your cards on the table ... (if you can prove it ... I won't ever post on this site again ... how is that for putting your money where your mouth is) So ... I will continue to sit here and wait ... maybe in the meantime ... you can come up with logic as to how and why your school district feels like it can disrespect solid coaches .... after all ... your last coach left for New Richmond? Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha? Heck ... I don't even know what I can say about that ... other than that is looks like Lloyd is doing some coaches a favor ...
