If they signed the contract then by all means follow up. But again, do those consequences really fit the offense? I played for a coach who began his teaching career at St. X (just a coincidence in this case, probably would've applied to many people at many schools in the 60s and 70s). He eventually moved to a new county and started the football program at my high school. Frequently I will wear a school shirt and someone will stop me and ask if I played for coach, because they had him in class at St. X. Then, without hesitation they all tell me how if anyone slept in class this coach would turn his ring upside down and smack them in the head to wake them up. I don't tell this to get into a debate about punishment in school. My questions is do those former students remember the punishment, or do they remember the lesson that was trying to be taught that led to the punishment? Same with the wrestler, will he remember the lesson that someone was trying to teach him, or just the punishment? You're right it is a difference in personal style, but I know which one I think is more effective. I will share that for the team I coach we also have a behavior contract, but we let a group from each grade level establish the rules and consequences each season and I think it is amazing how kids do a better job holding each other accountable in a lot of instances. Just my two cents.

Every school has behavior contracts, but that is ridiculous. Making that kid miss out on competing for a state championship that he spent untold hours preparing for because of a can of dip? If you really believe that is how you reach kids or they learn anything from that experience, then I need to stay as far away from Poplar Level Rd as possible.

I will comment on the Donald Brooks example. Just because he chose to attend prep school does not mean he is not academically qualified to attend college. He did not have any major D1 offers coming out of Trinity, so by choosing to attend prep school vs. JUCO or smaller division, he gets to improve academically and athletically for a year and doesn't lose any NCAA eligibility. Unless you were his high school counselor how do you know what he is and isn't qualified for academically? I read a great interview from Kevin Sumlin when Charlie Strong got the Texas job. Coach Strong was kicking kids off the team left and right. Coach Sumlin said something to the effect that the easy thing to do is to kick kids off the team (or "weed them out") than to hold them accountable for their actions and teach them how to be men. Give them consequences and they must own up to them, but also give them incentives, like sports, to continue to have something to work towards, as that might be all some kids have as motivation. You used the story about the wrestler to tout the St X way, but I would say that is absolutely ridiculous. My wife is a therapist and she would say in this instance if you want to have real consequences they must be related to the offense. How does taking away the privilege to wrestle relate in any way to bringing tobacco to school? What did they expect the young man to learn in this instance? Make him clean up tobacco in the bathroom, have him attend substance education and counseling, have him speak to elementary kids to teach them the dangers of tobacco use. These would all be more effective.

Funny, no one complained when Duece Finch attended CSAA powerhouse Parkview Middle School in Southern Indiana.

I think the Etown, Lex Cath, Caldwell and Tilghman group is a lot closer than people think. Lex Cath beat Boone (awful) and Madison Central (ok). Caldwell beat North Hardin and Henderson (both below average 6A squads). PT beat McCracken which is a solid win, but lost to Central Hardin, which most would consider a middle of the road 6A team this year. So again, I'd place Boyle, Belfry and Central in a group. Then I think Caldwell, LexCath, PT and Etown are pretty close in that 2nd tier (you could also throw in Russell, I don't know much about them).

Caldwell beat North Hardin by 14, Etown beat them by 6. Etown gave up to North Hardin 28 points and 300 yds of offense, Caldwell allowed 35 points and 450 yds of offense. Etown and Caldwell each had 300 yds of offense against North Hardin (all from KHSAA scoreboard). North Hardin also had to travel to Caldwell. I think Etown and Caldwell would be a very evenly matched game. Home field advantage will be huge for that game, if it happens.

I'd but Boyle #1 based on who they've beaten and how they've beaten them. I would pick Central over Belfry on account of their St. X win, but losses to Manual and Knox and close win to Waggener make me scratch my head. I'd say: 1. Boyle 2. Belfry 3. Central 4. Caldwell 5. Etown

There have been a few weak teams on the schedule, but Etown has demonstrated they can compete. Beat 4A North Oldham 38-0, 6A North Hardin 34-28, 3A Bardstown 38-7. Don't forget they also shutout CAL in their scrimmage. Will Etown be able to compete with Boyle, Belfry, Central, or even Caldwell and PT? I don't know, but we can't keep using the argument they haven't played anyone so we don't know how good they are.

Would affect Bullitt County too, as all 3 high schools have 2 feeder middle schools each.

Not that they cant compete, but other teams are scheduling lesser opponents and resting guys when possible week 10. Cant do that playing Moeller and you risk an i jury right before playoffs.

Trinity cant control who their district opponents are. And the fans may have enjoyed it, but I cant imagine the staff enjoyed playing Moeller the week before the playoffs started.

In those clips didn't seem like people had a hard time moving him.

It's very easy to sit in the stands and be critical. You can either criticize and be part of the problem or if you truly are part of the fundraising be quiet and be supportive and be part of the solution.

Without reading through this whole thread, can't imagine there isn't more to this story. I can't believe he actually shows up 15 minutes early and is made to wait last unless there is something else going on he isn't telling you about. Don't be so naive to just automatically take the side of the kid and come on here and blast and call out all coaches.

I agree. I just wouldn't hand them the 6A title yet.

2014 Trinity, embarrassed by X and lost in OT to Male in regular season. Took care of business in playoffs. This iteration of Male deserves to be #1 but hasn't shown they can finish the job in playoffs . . . At least not yet. With that in mind I wouldn't be surprised if Trinity gets things straightened out by November, as they've shown they can.

I think whoever was saying that was making a joke because Waggener "acquired" some other transfers in the off season. Everything I've heard about Harpers is they are trying Male or Fern Creek. Either way they shouldn't be eligible this season since they played in a varsity game and they shouldn't be eligible next season without a change of address. Emphasis on shouldn't, but who knows what will actually happen.

Etown/Adair district paired with Tilghman/Caldwell district. Central/Bardstown district paired with Boyle/Lex Cath. Those regions would meet in semi-state. Tough bracket.
