I get where you are coming from with the observation. I have seen it too, however as with any fan base, the loud / over bearing minority seems to overshadow the silent majority. I for one just want to enjoy the ride the Colonels are on & hope to see it continue. The original thread premise called attention to the good thing happening with Coach R. & the CCH program. I'd hoped the Colonel bashing could be limited in this one.

Your original comment referred to sky falling if they don't win this year. That simply wouldn't be true.

That's right, I forgot about holdback year. Who knows, by then, 2 yr. holdbacks might be en vogue.

I'll add Mark Schult, Ben Heppler, Parker Keller. I look at it as the coach develops good TEAMS. Good PLAYERS are developed by their own individual desires in combination with tools provided by good coaches.

Win the 9th this year & I think you can start talking about a memorable period. Obviously, only time will tell, but if they make some noise this year, then you have CVH as the regional veteran for a couple years with no Bolden or McDonald. Combined with young talent coming in . . . could be.

Pius 6th has held their own with other schools this season, but do not match up well with Conner. Conner's tall guard (longer hair) is nice player. Pius 7th made impressive comeback to win by large margin after being down 20 - 9 after 1st qtr. Made something like 15/16 free throws in 2nd half. Had to leave after 1st qtr of 8th grade game. Pius seemed to be in control with Thelen getting easy buckets. Kudos to Conner coaches for making necessary adjustments. Conner v. Pius always a good atmosphere.

While coaching man-to-man may be more difficult, its still not rocket science. Take the team that practices 1.5 hours per week. If they spend 30 minutes per practice on it & play it at least 75% of time during games, that would amount to 35-40 reps of experience over 1 season. I believe your affiliate high school coach would be appreciative as compared to straight zone MS teams. In the meantime, plenty opportunities arise for teaching / learning moments. Coaching MAN is not that hard. Getting the kids to play it with the needed desire presents more of an issue. Some are apathetic, some are behind athletically, but that's what this level is about . . . to teach & begin the separation process of who can & can't ball.

Each grade level has the same format. It amounts to a 14-team tourney (Big School). Each side of the bracket is basically the district championship. The district winners will then play in the Finals (East v. West) on Finals Saturday (scheduled for Feb.14th). The tourney games are scheduled for Mon. - Thurs. (2/9 - 2/12). Seeding for tourney is still undecided with games to be played this week. All game results are due this Friday morning to league director. Finals Saturday (2/14) is being held at Summit View (Big School division).

Props to Coach Kes ! 3 Championships for 9th in last 10 months.

I agree with KingLouie, as a Colonel alum/follower, puts a smile on your face hear such recognition. Also, agree with E-IV, Holmes didn't take a lot of bad shots. Having been said many times, the game was actually kind of off for both teams. Although, I was confounded why Holmes did not exploit middle of CCH 3-2 zone. Twice in 3rd quarter they ran a high post & got 2 scores, one on a drive & the other on a high/low feed. For some reason they never tried again (???)

Saw a good game last night as IHM 6th boys beat St.Pius in a close one, multiple lead changes. It was refreshing, both teams played man-to-man the whole game . . . hmmm.

I doubt that. Keep fighting the fight . . . bet boys are having fun though.

CVH for 1. Class of 14 - 6 or 7 starters on 2-loss (HHS) frosh team, Pope, Schreiver, Schult, etc. Not necessarily an indictment on Wirth, just recognition of the CCH culture at present. I'm not overly familiar with HHS personnel, but gotta believe more kids hang with football than CCH. Why wouldn't you, the success & community popularity is top notch.

Stallman - St.Pius. May be a half step slow, but a flat out shooter. Good Bball IQ too.

You're right lights probably not as important in the long run. However, in the short term, a new coach combined with playing Friday night home games could be a boost to morale and excitement around the program. 99% of boys would rather play under the lights. CCH needs to keep more players in the program beyond Frosh year. Sports diversity not helping the football Colonels over recent years.
