  1. Probaby Carter or Gary Taylor, The 80 team lost in region final in big upset to Franklin County. I remember playing Holmes in 82 up at Covington and they were not very good, I think one of Dicky's brothers was on the team. We scored a 100 in that game but it wasnt close.
  2. Southworth didnt get any Varsity clock in 80 plus he couldnt jump at all, probably remember him from our 81 team as he started small forward. Bryan Station has had many guys who could jump but it might have been Rodne Carter on that team.
  3. You have me going down memory lane I played at Bryan Station in the 80's but was in 8th grade in 80. Always heard what a great game the Holmes game was in 1980, Conner, Berry and Jeff Clay were just sophomores that year, Bird was a junior. Wonder who you are talking about as the leaper, it wasnt Southworth he was a 6'2" white boy who had about a 5" vertical :ylsuper: I played against alot of great guards in Lexington thru the years but must say Dicky Beal was the best I ever checked!!
  4. Probably time to get rid of Ruthsatz he just doesn't know who to play Lol! Only one of the top coaches in Kentucky.
  5. Ben Weyer had one of the most dominant regional touraments (points, rebounds, blocked shots, controlling the paint) that I have ever witnessed. Bellarmine got a steal, very shocked that he will not be playing DI some where. His length makes him play more like 6' 9 than 6'6". Also, he is a very versatile player.
  6. Why would you give up, Henry Clay is a very talented team. Dunbar and HC are both top 10 teams probably top 5 when they are playing at the top of their game. Picking Dunbar to win it all is a good pick if they can win the 11th region!!
  7. Carson might end up making the NBA but he is not a better High school player than Rex who like I said was a top guard in the nation. Some kids do improve a ton after high school and become better than other kids but at this point Carson is not a top 20 player in the nation. Time will tell if he gets to the elite level but he will have to improve his shooting and ball handling to make it at the big time level. He is more athletic than most of the kids he plays against at Owen County.
  8. So what does that have to do with Carson being as good or better high school player than Rex or Larry. Rex was one of the top guards in the nation coming out of high school I dont see Carson listed on any top 20 lists for high school seniors. Carson is a very nice player and with his athleticism he has a chance to be a very good college player but to compare him to Rex or Larry as a top high school player shows you have a bias for the kid. Remember Rex scored 1,000 points in 2 years at Kentucky so I look forward to Carson scoring at that clip at a lower level of competition.
  9. Thought CCH made 1 mistake last night Cole should have guarded Bezold, Beez was just too strong for the other kids and he got a lot of points in the paint. They did put him on beez late in the game. Also CCH has a nice team but they are playing a lot of young kids and HC is a senior dominated team that seemed to be just more physical than CCH, CCH has more skilled players but Senior dominated teams can be a big advantage. Both teams play very hard and are well coached, saw HC play Henry Clay in Lexington and even though they were outmanned at about every position they never backed down which i always like to see in a team, one thing about CCH is the Cole kid is just one tough kid he isn't afraid to make big play, on neutral floor i would lean to CCH but HC plays hard and won't be an easy out for anyone. Regarding the Refs overall decent job but there was one charge on a CCH player that I thought was a really bad call, HC player wasn't close to being in position but home teams usually get a few more calls just part of why it is tough to win on the road at any level if the teams are fairly close in talent.
  10. You do a nice job with the write-ups, I have seen all the top teams in this region play except NCC and even though the region is down from the past several years there are still some nice teams and it will be very competitive year that being said the most talented team in this region and the team to beat will be CCH they have such a big upside with all the new young talent and they have CVH who no matter how he ends up projecting for college is just a winner at the high school level. Holy Cross is different team from the past several years basically because they are playing great team defense if Coach Schrand will stay committed to HC being a great defensive team they will be very competitive. Cooper has a very nice team and are very well coached but they have to get more consistent scoring than just the McNeil kid or they will have a hard time beating Top 25 competition on a regular basis. I believe Holmes will be a legitimate contender by the end of the year great guard play and some young talent that will only get better. Well coached team. I will have to check out NCC soon, also Newport can compete if they will commit to playing on the defense end like HC has. Also saw Ryle play great improvement over last year's team is very committed to playing hard nose defense and the team is alot more physical this year (McFarland had them hit the weight room hard), will need to find more ways to score or they will struggle against top competition on the offensive end.
  11. Male and Trinity are SEC, St. X sometimes. Manual good but not great, Dont think PRP, Eastern, Ballard, Jeffersontown, Butler, Seneca are SEC.
  12. That is a pretty broad brush to say no lexington schools have class, i was at the game and i thought it was hard played game by both teams ,each team showed class and good sportsmanship on the field.
  13. Bryan Station(the best team SK has played) put up 36 on SK, Lafayette has more talent than BS. I have seen SK play several times and they play very hard and are well coached but they dont have big-time speed. Lafayette is playing very disciplined football right now and will have to play with the same intensity as at SC to win at SK because SK wont beat itself. Should be a good game. TO's will probably be the deciding factor.
  14. Nothing wrong with rooting for underdogs I have been a UK football fan all my life LOL!!
  15. You make a good point that underdogs do have to believe and I would say most High school teams that have some talent believe they can win any game, which they should, but when the talent disparity is great it makes it very difficult to accomplish. If you watched Male or Trinity this year you would have to be impressed with how much talent was on the field for each team.
  16. Anything can happen has not been the case in 6A football, Trinity, St. X and Male have been the dominant programs for a long time. The only year one of them didnt win the 6A title since 2000 was when a great Scott Count team won it few years ago. The Male/Trinity teams this year are great teams so history tells us the odds of anything happening in 6A football are very slim.
  17. Male vs Trinity was the state title game, I have seen alot of HS football in Kentucky and Trinity/ Male 2015 are two of the most talented teams playing in the same year I have had the pleasure to watch. This is no knock on the other teams(all 3 are playing very good football) left but Male is at least 25 point favorite against any team left in 6A.
  18. SK is a very good football team, Cooper is very well coached with some nice players but will have too show alot more than they did against BS but it wouldnt suprise me if they did. I would pick SK by at least 20 becasue I think they are just a more talented team. SK is going to be very hard to beat by NKY team but there are a few capable on a given night.
  19. No one in KY is going to beat Trinity or Male and that is not a knock on any of the other teams in 6A there are some good teams like SC, SK, BS but Trinity and Male are just at higher level than any Kentucky teams. I wish they seeded 6A so we could see a Trinity/Male final just like the one back in the day which was one of the best HS games I ever saw.
  20. Went to the game at the Pit and SC has a nice team but having seen Trinity and Male beating Trinity I would be shocked if anyone in Kentucky can beat one of those two teams. SC did struggle to pass the ball but they have a great ground attack. How good is the left tackle at Elder (ND recruit), he is worth the price of admission.
  21. I agree Ryle can compete with PRP, Ballard etc. , I dont think the NKY schools run from anybody but the top 4 in 6A are just so good they would be very difficult to beat, I do believe SK has a physical enough of a team but not sure if they have the team speed and depth, I have seen Trinity and they are special this year. I'm not sure about Manual this year they have been very good the past few years.
  22. I have seen Ryle several times and they have very little chance against Trinity, Male, Scott County or St. X, not a knock on Ryle just too much talent and team speed on those four teams. I think they will have a very hard time against SK but by the time they play them maybe they have improved enough to beat them but right now SK is just a better team. Ryle is very well coached and a smart quarterback with good running backs but just not enought talent to compete with top 4 or 5 in 6A.
  23. Yeah finding a great coach is hard!! Changing the subject I think Im going to go to the Elder/Scott Co. game a friend of mine at work his kid starts Nose Guard for SC, do you know if the parking is terrible up at Elder if we get there little late, I hate going to some schools due to the parking issues. I went to a game at the Pit but it was back in the 80's.
  24. Ryle has a nice team but not dominant at this point, If the Highlands QB plays it should be a very good game I believe Highlands still has more team speed than Ryle but Highlands will have to be able to defend a very balanced Ryle attack that is well coached.
