Yeah, I know it was one of those "phantom" holds. I was making a joke in that one of their best takedowns was a hold on offense instead of a tackle on defense. Bad joke I guess, great picture.

Hey toothpick, that is a rare and unique photo you posted there. It shows CC making a tackle in the last seven minutes of the game.

East and West mean nothing to me, my state map has Mayfield on it, and the rest is blank.

I suppose if it is an uncontested td, maybe that's celebration. But otherwise, kids dive at, toward, and into the endzone all the time.

If Bright scoring a TD is a penalty, going to be lots of flags thrown in the upcoming weeks.

Mayfield over Danville in the final. Before the season started, I had high hopes for the Cards, and up until last week, I was not 100% sold on Mayfield as a champion. Last week the Cards played like a champion. I think it was just what we needed going into the playoffs. Go Big Red!

Great win for Mayfield against a great Caldwell team. The Caldwell team, and their fans, deserve kudos. A classic game with the kids on both sides of the line giving everything they have. Best five dollars I ever spent on the ticket. As to the refs, they were bad. Horrible. But it was both ways. A credit to both teams for playing thru it. The pass interference on 4th down that kept Caldwell's drive alive was correct imo. The ref on the Mayfield sideline missed so many holds, and a horsecollar tackle. There were many other missed calls, both ways. This crew gave Caldwell an extra down once and attempted to do it a second time. As to the time keeping issues, I have never seen such blatantly bad clock work; it would make the russian timekeeper who stole the basketball gold medal from us that one year blush. We had an incomplete screen pass that took 9 seconds off the clock, somehow. Then we had 2.8 seconds to spike the ball, the teams were lined up, the refs started the clock, the ball was snapped and spiked, the whistle blown, and then everyone watched 1.7 seconds just run off the clock. The refs missed a lot of calls, but they got that right. Any fair-minded fan of Caldwell would not have wanted to win a game with such a blatant abuse of the clock. Anyway, a great game at a great venue. Congrats to both teams.

In answer to your question in post 30 Guru, I think the travel times are prohibitive. Even with our fastest travel times, it would take hundreds of thousands of years to reach even the closest stars, and would increase drastically as the distances do. I know the theory is faster-than-light-travel, but for all its appeal to the fascination and imagination, we really are not even close. Traveling at near the speed of light is even more unlikely I would expect, given the energy that would be required. I would guess that somehow cheating the speed limit with a wormhole would be more likely, but still very unlikely to happen. Also, the window for such things. Aliens, to have visited us, would had to have left their planet(s) for ours before we even existed. (Again, assuming the speed of light is the speed limit). The window of opportunity hurts in many other ways, including the idea that species don't last forever. There is no particular reason to think that we will survive long enough as a species to develop technology that would allow interstellar travel. Nor is there any particular reason to think an alien species would be any more effective than us. Yeah the universe is 14 billion years old, but most of it, if not all (interesting question to look up) has been recycled several times over. Finally, where are they? I don't buy into the government has covered it up theories. Every government for all time? Why come here just to hide? I hope I am wrong. It would be pretty cool if it happened, just so long as they didn't enslave us all for constant anal probes.

I believe the chances of life being elsewhere are good, based on what I've seen and read. Aliens who visit us...not so much.

Watched most of that feed, thanks for the link. Two pretty good teams there. I don't know about Mayfield vs either of them, all the talent we need and then some, but too many penalties, too many mistakes, and too many injuries to players named Bright.

I have been thinking all week that this would be a close, hard fought game. But I woke up feeling good and confident about it, Mayfield in a big way. Bright Bright Bright.

played poorly? ummmm, no. Didn't play our best game, to be sure. got lucky? I don't remember a lot of "lucky" plays that went for us. I remember us making some key plays to win the game. Overall, I think Mayfield does pretty well. When the most common criticism of our team is that we didn't look good when winning a state championship, well, I guess we should just say thank you and make room on the trophy shelf. I can't wait for this season to play out.

Concerned about our young team facing a senior led PT team at PT. I think PT may jump out to a lead, then we get our stuff together in the second half. First half prediction, PT 21, Mayfield 7. End of Game, Mayfield 31, PT 28.

This is a legitimate question. I will do my best to answer, short answer is I think it does matter. Mayfield has always valued football. Going back over 100 years. I think, imo, that our football program is what most Mayfieldians take the most pride in. Football is not something that we are good at doing, it is something that we are. It is in our DNA now, or something like that. I think it brings us together as a community, and crosses racial divides. We structure our lives around football. We live and breathe this tradition and history and so do our kids. I think it does matter for the kids on this team to know that they are following, literally, in their fathers' footsteps. I think it does matter to the kids on this team to know that they are the current custodians of our Mayfield Cardinal team, and that to be in that position is important to them, and to the community. I think it is important to the kids to know that they are taking part in something that is valued, and even treasured by their families and our community. And it starts early. They know this as young toddlers going to games. By the time they get to high school, they feel a sense of manifest destiny, and they should. I know DeSales will be a tough game. They sound like a heck of a good football team. And they will be preparing for us all year long. But our kids have been preparing for DeSales for their entire lives. Sometimes that makes the difference. Thats why I think our history is important.
