This is the common sense approach and answer. But common sense is dead. Fear reigns supreme these days. It makes zero sense to cancel games when kids and/or coaches do not have COVID. If we're going to continue in this line of thinking, we might as well just stay locked inside our homes for the rest of our lives because what we're saying is, nothing is safe anymore.

Great job by OHS to add St X to their schedule. I'll be interested to see if there are more changes coming in 2021. As for Moonlite vs Old Hickory...... there is no debate. Its Old Hickory and its not close. Moonlite does have a great buffet spread with some tremendous deserts but if were going pound for pound BBQ buffets, i'd even go Ole South over Moonlite. Old Hickory is the best BBQ you're going to find anywhere.

Daviess County (2-2) travels to Henderson County (2-1) tonight. This game could decide a home playoff game. Last years regular season contest was an instant classic that saw Daviess County pull out overtime win. It was the Panthers first win against Henderson in a decade. Henderson was able to get revenge a few weeks later in the playoffs, winning 36-16. Apollo rushed for almost 200 last week against the Henderson defense which should open the door for Sophomore RB Brycen Parm. Parm is averaging over 100 rush per game and has 5 touchdowns on the season. Panther QB Joe Humphries is a very underrated athlete and is not only putting up about 245 yards passing per game, he also averages about 80 on the ground with a 10/1 touchdown to interception ratio. They will need to protect him better than their last outing against McCracken however. Henderson features 2 great pass rushers in Layton Fletcher and Saadiq Clement. Daviess County was gashed in the run game by McCracken in their last outing and will be tested tonight by a Henderson offensve that averages right out 200 yards rushing per game. Quarterback Ben Dalton leads the team in rushing with 87 yards per game. Sophomore Jahiem Williams has been a game breaker thus far in limited carries. He is putting up about 70 yards rushing per contest, while averaging right at 16 yards per carry. Jordan Wright led the Colonels 2nd half comeback against Apollo last week and will get the bulk of the carries tonight. I want to see the Owensboro defense against McKee and Brown. On paper the Devils D has been much better over the past 3 weeks but it has also been against lesser competition(Catholic aside). This is a district battle that could determine a home playoff game. Henderson won 20-13 last year after Apollo lost QB Damien Lovinski in the 2nd half to injury. Both teams coming off a short layoff. Henderson lost a battle to Hoptown to open the season but bounced back with a big win over Central Hardin. The Colonels haven't played the past 2 weeks due to a bye week and a Covid cancelation with Madisonville. Apollo dropped their last game to McCracken County before their bye week. Henderson QB Ben Dalton is putting up nearly 100 through the air and rushing for 100 on the ground. Meanwhile Sophomore Jahiem Williams is putting up 90 per game and averaging about 18 yards per carry. The Apollo defense has given up 36 points per game against explosive offenses such as Owensboro and McCracken. They are giving up right at 260 rushing yards per game and will need to be better tonight to give themselves a shot. Offensively, RB Harold Patterson is putting up right at 100 per game. Like his opposition, Apollo QB Damien Lovinski is just as good with his legs as he has been with his arm. He has put up 75 rush yards per game and 122 pass yards. He has yet to throw and interception but does have some key fumbles thus far. This should be a great matchup at Apollo's brand new Eagle Stadium. I will be interested to see how Gavin performs with the bright lights on him tonight. Its impossible to look at his statistics and see the talent that he has. I think he is in store for a big time game tonight if Catholic can keep it close enough to keep him on the field for more than a half. The Aces have been a big surprise to me this year. They haven't played the toughest schedule but wins over Mt Vernon Indiana and then last weeks domination of Mclean were impressive. Catholic has won the last 2 meetings at Steele Stadium but I think the Devils speed will be too much for them tonight. Owensboro 49 - Catholic 28

On paper, this is my favorite game in the state tonight. Bradley vs that BG defense will be a great battle. Tonight will tell us just how good McCracken is. They really struggle with extra points, so that is something that could factor into a defensive battle. I expect it to be close. McCracken 23 - BG 21

I couldn't find the above view, but Apollo has the nicest looking turf field that I have seen. Of course i'm a little bias too.

Owensboro would have been better served to drop those City/County games this season with no fans. Its a little harder to dump them when they are your biggest gates. That said, Catholic would be the only home game for the Devils in 2021, so a 1-2 season break from the city/county schedule does make some sense in the coming seasons. I think it would make more sense for Owensboro to drop Henderson than it would to drop and city game. I know its a long standing rivalry, but it seems pretty watered down these days. You could keep the district schedule, city/county and then have 2 games to schedule big time competition like St X or Trinity and a big time Indiana opponent. I've always been puzzled at why the KHSAA didn't put Grayson County in the Bowling Green district? Seems more logical to have them make that a 5 team district instead of the current format with 6 and 4.

Mclean is about as well coached of a program as you're going to find. I'm shocked a big school hasn't came calling for Zach Wagner. Dude took a winless program for a few years and has turned it into a winner. The Cougars seem to be struggling a little bit against the pass but their run defense should be solid with returning LB Andrew Munster. I expect the game plan to be the same. Runs for 3-4 yards per carry to limit the Aces offense. They have continued those trick play passes this season with RB Connor Baldwin. He has 4TD passes to big target Brady Dame. Dame has some small college potential(possibly Craig Yeast and KWC). Kudos to Jason Morris for changing the identity of the Owensboro Catholic Aces in a very short period of time. To graduate 90% of your offense in Drew Hartz and Hagan Edge and not miss a beat is impressive. Lincoln Clancy brings a little more Fran Tarkington/Johnny Manzel to the position. Braden Mundy will be the best athlete on the field on most nights for Catholic. This team is also overcoming the tragic loss of a key teammate in a terrible auto accident over the summer that also cost stud LB Buckman his season. I lean Catholic in this game, simply because of the tradition but never count out Zach Wagner. Mclean will need to be better on defense to make it two in a row and I'm just not sure they will have an answer for Braden Mundy. OCath 42 - Mclean 28

It sure is a beautiful facility that was placed in a perfect setting. Between that and Coach Edge coming over to run the program, I'm not sure there has been this much excitement around football in school history.

OHS wins this game easily but a fun game within the game will be OHS's run defense against Jennings. The Devils are giving up about 230 a game on the ground so far and have been pushed around a little up front. I'm curious to see how they do against Jennings tonight. I agree with Brown. OHS needs a better rotation on defense. To much talent on the sidelines for the Devils not to use that to their advantage. With the lack of offseason, its going to take the coaches time to find the right rotations. OHS 56 - Ohio 13

This is always a tough matchup for Apollo. I know the defense was without a few key pieces in the 2nd half debacle vs Owensboro and that the unit played a lot better last week. They will need to be at their best to give them any chance tonight because i know McCracken's defense is tough. I doubt the Apollo kids have forgot the 138 points the Mustangs hung on them last year. We'll see if that gives them any extra motivation. This will be a great test for that Apollo OL. The offense has been a bit of a disappointment through 2 games overall. They started well vs Owensboro and had timely drives against Meade, but they haven't put it together as of yet. I feel like its going to be tough to find that flow tonight. McCracken 42 - Apollo 24

I saw this game last year and Apollo really took it to Meade in the first half last year. The Waves made some nice adjustments in the 2nd half to get it closer but it looked like Apollo was the better team across the board. I did notice Meade threw the ball 20 times last week, which is a little different than what I've seen from Meade in the past. If they look to run, Oppel could give Apollo some problems on the outside. They don't look to be very fast out there. Griffin Ferguson hurt his ankle last week and missed most of the game for Apollo. Not having him would hurt Apollo. At the end of the day, I think Apollo's big OL and Patterson/Lovinski combination is too much for Meade. Apollo 49 Meade 28

Hard to know what to expect in this one, but I would put the Devils down as at least a couple touchdown favorite. OHS lost a ton on defense but they have an extremely talented sophomore class that will be ready to step in. I also expect Austin Gough to return to All-State form, after some injuries slowed him down last season. Apollo should be able to run the ball behind a very good offensive line and one of the best backs in the state in Harold Patterson. Coach Edge will have to have put his stamp on the defense pretty quickly for the Eagles to have any shot. They gave up around 40 per contest last year. The x factor will be Apollo QB Damien Lovinski. If he can make some plays with his arm, he could keep it interesting. In the end, i've gotta roll with the Devils. 42-28.

Oh absolutely. Lovinski and Patterson(formerly known as Harold Hogg) behind that offensive line should be really explosive. Add Coach John Edge and they probably have they highest ceiling of any team in that district. As for Daviess County, Jon Nalley is a kid that shouldn't go unnoticed. He has several offers on the table as an OT. Blake Henry is another guy on the line that i expect to field some nice offers before its all said and done too. They will be very strong up front.

Great to see Mclean County getting some love here. Zach Wagner has done a fantastic job with that program. They should be favored in every regular season game they play this season, outside a trip to Owensboro Catholic in the middle of the season. An undefeated season would be one heck of a story in Calhoun!

Great job! Keep your eye on Daviess County as well. They return a ton of starters on offense and a tremendous offensive line. If they can find some defense, they will be tough. That will be a fun district with McCracken, Henderson, Apollo and Daviess Co.

That is exactly the message it is sending. This will be the third control meeting we've gone thru since mid July where things have been delayed. How many more do we need to tell us that things aren't going to change anytime soon. Either play or don't.

I have no problem with the JCPS pushing back until 10/1 with the rest of the state starting as planned. I would just have to ask the JCPS folks, what is going to be different on 10/1 than it was on 9/1 or 8/1 or 7/1?? This virus isn't going to magically disappear. The risks are going to be the same. So using that mindset, they should just cancel the season if they think it is unsafe to play now. The common sense approach would tell you that it is ok to start practicing now, since there have been no issues with practices thus far. While practicing, keep your eye on Indiana, who had scrimmages this past week and will have played 3 real games before KY does. That is FOUR weeks worth of games to judge. If they aren't having issues and there have been no issues in practice, there is no reason that we can't play on 9/11. IF issues arise, you have until the afternoon of 9/11 to pull the plug. Its that simple.
