The Red Devils begin 2020 ranked #3 in BGP's 5A rankings, and that lofty position is well justified. Owensboro returns many starters on the offensive side of the ball, most notably Gavin Wimsatt, one of the state's premier quarterbacks. He'll have a familiar face to throw to, in last year's leading receiver Treyvon Tinsley. Leading rusher Ethan Avery is also back, as well as a healthy Austin Gough.

But the Devils won't have all of the star power on the field tonight. Apollo has a standout player of its own to lean on, with the return of RB Harold Patterson (formerly Hogg), a 2,000 yard rusher last season. Perhaps the biggest development for the Eagles so far this year, is the return of John Edge to Kentucky high school coaching. He comes back to the Bluegrass state after two years in Indiana, following a long, successful run at Owensboro Catholic. If he can rekindle that success at Apollo, the Eagles should start to soar soon enough.

A little late on this thread, but better late than never.

Probably be a lot offense in this game. Not sure who wins.

Hard to know what to expect in this one, but I would put the Devils down as at least a couple touchdown favorite.  OHS lost a ton on defense but they have an extremely talented sophomore class that will be ready to step in.  I also expect Austin Gough to return to All-State form, after some injuries slowed him down last season.

Apollo should be able to run the ball behind a very good offensive line and one of the best backs in the state in Harold Patterson.  Coach Edge will have to have put his stamp on the defense pretty quickly for the Eagles to have any shot.  They gave up around 40 per contest last year.  The x factor will be Apollo QB Damien Lovinski.  If he can make some plays with his arm, he could keep it interesting.  In the end, i've gotta roll with the Devils.  42-28.

Gavin Wimsatt + John Edge's offensive prowess + Apollo gave up 45 ppg last year = you're probably right, 94!

I just think the O skill guys speed with Wimsatt making plays downfield will ultimately get the Red Devils the victory.

Apollo has a couple D1 lineman and a great back in Hogg.  A lot of athletes on defensive side of ball for O.  I’m looking forward to seeing DE Hines and LB Goodwin who both are loads and sophomores .  The 6-4 sophomore WR I  look to play some DB (Pendleton) another sophomore.  Clark and speedster Rodgers will help defense too.  Gough will be ready and plenty of good secondary players.  I think Apollo can move the ball but big plays will be limited by O speed.  Owensboro has Tinsley, Flaherty and Stevenson back at WR and a transfer from Newburgh (Evansville) Castle at WR as well.  Early, Rodgers also speedsters.  O should have a blazing fast defense IMO.  Great O line for Owensboro with Millay and company.  I’ll say O by 21 but who knows first game out of gate.
