Mayfield at #1 will totally make sense when you see them play. Same old stuff every year from folks:rolleyes: and to my recollection, Mayfield has the same results....every year.

Not even close to "substantially more". Mayfield could have won other class championships over the past several years, not just 1A. Out of the comfort zone of 1A is about as strong as I would word it......their game will move up just like their class. It is Mayfield.

All this discussion really isn't necessary. Mayfield is in 2A and that's all BW needed to be successful again.

Let me clarify..contend in WKY...pretend beyond that. And lets face it, what's it really worth to win a few games locally and not make it very far in the playoffs....ask Caldwell Co, they know what its worth.

Landon Arnett was excellent last year as a Sophomore and won another state championship for Mayfield. He is bulked up big time since December and should be even better this year.

I agree. I tend to separate things like overall talent from simply speed as TAC stated above. Give me a kid that can say, run his routes perfectly, catch everything thrown his way, superior understanding of the game and runs a 4.7/4.8 over a kid that can simply run a 4.5 and have average "football" smarts. But guess what, the 4.5 is going D1 every time regardless of any other factor, that's my point overall. That's exactly why you see so many examples of kids going to run track in college and then get turned into football players. Speed or height are only variables in overall talent IMO. The Georgetown kid is a great example. I also think I read somewhere that he wasn't the only one at Georgetown that had a pro day either this year.

Of course Mayfield in the top 5. Argument can be made for number one, pound for pound IMHO.

In addition to my comments on NAIA ball. The kids playing are every bit as talented as many D1 players. In most cases just run 4.7s/8s instead of 4.5s or 2 inches too short. Its really, really good football. At the end of the day, the kids going to the NFL from college is like being struck by lightening, so go play football where you can in college!!:ylsuper:

Look at it this way. If a NAIA college pays $20,000 of a $40,000 education and the kid makes up another $8,000- $10,000 in scholarships/work study etc, a parent is out $10,000 a year. It costs a little more than that to pay full price with no scholarships somewhere else and the kid doesn't get to play ball. Guarantee the connections made at a small college playing football will pay dividends faster in getting a good job than at a state school where you are just a number graduate with no sports connections. Those elite small colleges usually have alumni that make it happen for kids upon graduation.

2A Mayfield. Don't care about the rest

It will be a long year in the nest this fall.

If Tucker and Kennemore stay in the wideout, someone will have to take those catches across the middle of the field. If Kennemore stays in the slot then he's your go to guy there. Tucker showed promise but wasn't able to have a season to hone those skills or to prove his durability and his reliability. Kennemore will have to shoulder the load in receiving this year as he is the returning vet. Arnett will be improved on the long ball but that short 10-12 yard game is still critical for a young QB. In addition to an O line that may give him less time to throw this year..that slot becomes even more critical to replace. Is it August yet?

I would hesitate just entering into 2A to immediately put Mayfield at #1 as well but I think we may have less holes to fill looking at Desales roster...returning receiver corps is good, not sure that Mayfield can so easily compensate for Bacon leaving a 6'3" guy with about 50 catches for 850-900 or so yards, all across the middle of the field..not sure Mayfield has another one like that to just put in there this year to compensate for those yards which kept ALOT of TD drives alive for Mayfield. Running backs, were good, no change, likely better with more experience. Defense, as good, maybe better. O line...thin BUT Mayfield always figures that out and I'm sure they will this year again. QB..were good and could argue better with last year under his belt. Overall I like Mayfield chances again.
