For years Cov Cath has paid to much attention to the name on the front of the jersey. You're better than them. Just go out and actually prove it.

A lot Highlands fans predicted that these last two seasons wouldn't be the best. Some refused to believe it last year saying things like "Down year? We made it to the semi-finals!" Even though last years Highlands team probably would have been ranked 10th out of the last ten Highlands teams (not including this year). Highland's unprecedented run was going to end at some point, it just was. It is unfair to the current players that they are expected to duplicate the ridiculous amount of success that has been had. But that is also what you sign up for when you play for Highlands. During the 2000s, how many undefeated or one loss freshman teams did Highlands have? It seems it was almost every year. The past few freshman teams have had multiple losses each year. Now this years freshman team, which many said Ryle and Highlands had the two best freshman teams by far, will likely end the year at 6-4 (assuming Ryle is as good as many have said). Highlands will be back, its going to happen at some point. But many proclaiming it is just a 2 year lull, might be speaking a little early. But time will tell.

I haven't seen Highlands a lot over the past couple years but saw a lot of them when Dale was the coach. They did have a few superior athletes when Dale was the coach but the bulk of the teams were average athletes (as are almost all high school teams). One thing about those teams is they played smart. You rarely saw players taking bad angles and players knew when to force a player to the sideline or when to force him inside to your help. Mueller was also king of half time adjustments.

What is the general break down of Highlands starters by class?

Wow I was way off. I thought Highlands wouldn't have much of an issue. I figured Highlands was a average to above average team that had played a tough schedule and that Dixie was a average to below average team that has played a softer schedule. Congrats to Dixie on the win. The only other win I can think of for Dixie against Highlands is in the early 2000s. Anyone know the second last time Dixie beat Highlands before tonight?

Like someone said earlier, freshman is great for seeing what kind athletes a grade has but a lot can happen in three years. The biggest thing that scew freshman results is that usually a few key players onfreshman teams quit playing football to focus on other sports.

My question for SK fans. How long do you think the school district will let SK grow in enrollment while Scott shrinks/remains stagnant? SK and Scott are apparently in district rivals but SK has nearly double Scott's enrollment. If I were an SK supporter, I'd be concerned about a major district realignment coming up in the next ten years. I have not heard anything and it may never happen, but it just seems at some point the Kenton County School District will have to do something to get kids going to Scott.

I have no idea. But I have trouble believing that Highlands ducked SK during 06-09. The 2008 SK team was not as good as some people like to say. They were dominated by NCC that year and were the 4 sead going into the playoffs. They got hot/a very week side of bracket and made it to the state championship where it wasn't a game from the first snap. Highlands would have beaten the 06, 07, and 08 SK teams by whatever score they wanted. The 09 team could have competed but I would guess would have lost by 2-3 scores to Highlands.

To be blunt, No they will not. It is interesting this year because CCH usually treats Highlands like an Ohio school. It doesn't matter the talent that is lined up across from them, they just forget how to play the game and get beat. But this year they actually have looked past the name on the front of the jersey. But no, they will lose to Highlands.

Remember, Cov Cath has NEVER lost under the lights at Wooten field. I mean there has only bee two games but still.

Dayton high school has the most northern football field in the state and probably some of the steepest stands.

This will be the tenth meeting between the two schools with Lex Cath leading the series 5-4.

Has Lex Cath ever played at Cov Cath? It seems they play every couple years but ALWAYS at Lex Cath.

I can see where you are coming from but I Read in an article the other day (nky tribune possibly) that talked about the one of the reasons CCH is using portable lights this year. It said there is just a big financial difference between Friday night and Saturday afternoon games. Saturday afternoon is just not a good time for a game. I also don't think it is too much of an advantage considering most CCH players and fans do not like Saturday afternoon games either.

All very true. SK has come a long way. But it should probably be noted that Simon Kenton is basically tied for being the largest school in NKY, being fed by one of the fastest growing areas in the state, and in a district that allows open enrollment where the two other schools have played a lot of bad (at times horrible) football.

You are correct. My apologies. I was looking st KHSAA score board on my phone and it can be hard to see everything. The loss I was referring to was the 2013 season. I missed where last year they played 3 times with Highlands taking the third. Since the 2001 season, Highlands is now 2-23 against Cov Cath (I'm pretty sure these numbers are correct, but as I've proven, I've been wrong before). But to Highlands credit. They have the more recent regional title.

Cov Cath has only lost to Highlands once in the last ten years. Could be longer but I'm not sure. Hopefully this is the year Cov Cath can end their regional drought.

Teenagers and Twitter don't mix. Unfortunately we get a lot of it though. Whenever Cov Cath is playing a game I often use Twitter for updates. I'll usually just type in "Cov Cath" and I'll usually be able to see someone tweet an update. Unfortunately, there is always tweets involving cuss words and homophobic slurs directed at Cov Cath from whoever they are playing. But the Cov Cath kids are usually not completely innocent, usually tweeting just as dumb things. Doesn't matter the school, teenagers and Twitter don't mix.

I've always heard scheduling jv games is tough. It be really hard to schedule two different jv teams.

A new school might get brought up if/when SK hits 2000 students which if things are not changed, is probably only a few years off. But I doubt you'll see a fourth one built or even seriously discussed any time soon (less than 10 years). This isn't like Boone County where every high school in the district was at or over capacity. I don't know about SK or Dixie, but there is definitely room at Scott for more students.

As independence continues to grow, so will Simon Kenton. Independence grew 65% from 2000 to 2010 and SK has grown by hundreds of students. But at the same time, Scott High School as been shrinking and is now under 1000 total students. I do not know what the realignment of the boundaries will do for enrollments. But my guess is they'll try to funnel more kids to Scott, especially since they just remodeled/expanded the school.
