Someone was telling me Kenton School District will redo the school districts. I heard Dixie will get all of Edgewood and Scott will get part of SK's area. If this happens they might all be 5A teams. Has anyone else heard this? I also heard they might put a end to open enrollment.

I do know that Edgewood will be going to Dixie instead of Scott starting next year (those already enrolled at Scott will have the option of staying. With the recent additions to the Scott building, and SK being close to overcrowded, it makes sense that Scott would pick up some of SK's district. Dixie might end up back in 6A, Sk will almost certainly stay in 6A and Scott will likely move back up to 5a at some point in time.

How would closed enrollment effect the Kenton County Schools? Do a lot of kids go outside their distracted area?

Do you not remember when I asked you about this approximately one month ago? I said that SK was reaching its limit and that some sort of redistricting may occur.

SK had over 500 freshmen this school year. We live in Independence but are assigned woodland and Scott HS. That's a joke we pay Independence taxes not Taylor Mill. We are going to move further down 16 to avoid this.

After analysis of past and future open enrollment requests, student attendance patterns and building

capacity, we are proposing reassignment of the following groups of students beginning the 2016-17 school

year:

 A small number of students currently attending Fort Wright Elementary scheduled to go to

Woodland Middle School will be moved to Summit View Academy for grades P-8. This area are

the streets south of Dudley Pike connected to/or closely connected to Madison Pike and Old

Madison Pike across from Pioneer Park. This impacts approximately 10 current students.

 Students currently attending Summit View Academy scheduled to go to Woodland Middle School

and on to Scott High School will be phased in to stay at SVA through their middle school

years. These areas are in particular Crystal Lake Subdivision on the west side of Hands Pike,

students off Gribble Drive, and off Richardson Road. The students currently enrolled at Woodland

Middle School will be permitted to finish at WMS with provided transportation.

 Students currently living in the R. C. Hinsdale Elementary attendance boundary will be reassigned

for middle school and high school to attend Turkey Foot Middle School and Dixie Heights High

School. Examples of these areas are the Brightleaf Subdivision area off Turkeyfoot Road and the

areas of Edgewood off of Dudley Pike east of Charter Oak.

school. All Principals have been made aware and are offering information sessions. Letters have

been sent to all parents to notify them of the proposed changes.

Recommendation: It is recommended the Board approve the boundary/reassignment changes.

This area is going back to the way it was districted about 9 years ago. Makes sense since from what I've heard SVA's population is way down. Big building with the least number of students in the district.

SK freshman enrollment is 458

SK has some room and could potentially make room. The biggest problem is it's so congested already that it would be really bad with more construction. The school could use more than the two limited entrances it currently has from Madison Pike.

As independence continues to grow, so will Simon Kenton. Independence grew 65% from 2000 to 2010 and SK has grown by hundreds of students. But at the same time, Scott High School as been shrinking and is now under 1000 total students. I do not know what the realignment of the boundaries will do for enrollments. But my guess is they'll try to funnel more kids to Scott, especially since they just remodeled/expanded the school.

Scott is killing themselves with enrollment by their test scores!
