Any Interesting Trivia About High Schools or Stadiums and Their Geography?

Featured Replies

Belfry is travelling to Newport and while looking at the directions and google images it occurred to me just how close Newport Stadium is to Gilligan Stadium, where Bellevue plays. The two stadiums are essentially separated by I-471.

My office is only minutes from Norcross High School in Georgia. Nocross is directly across the street from a Private School named Wesleyan and only a two lane surface street separate the two

Anybody else have any fun facts or unusual conditions like these?

Mayfield's War Memorial Stadium and Graves Co. stadium are a mile apart

Covington Catholic is not in Covington, but Park Hills, Ky.

CovCath and Beechwood are about 2 miles apart.

And Dayton is about 1.5 miles from them also. And Highlands stadium is about 2 miles from both of those stadiums.

Nothing about proximity, but legend has it that David Cecil's ghost is still roaming the halls of Highlands; specifically the band room. Is that room still there after the renovations?

My hometown team (Meade County) is nicknamed Death Valley because there is a cemetery that over looks one of the endzones. It also has an elementary school along one side up on a hill and the high school over looks the other endzone all three of which we associated with death. People used to park in the cemetery and flash their lights every time we scored.

Did Graves originally play at War Memorial?

Danville and Boyle's stadium aren't exactly close to each other, but Boyle always put on a big fireworks display after touchdowns and I was told the location of their display was chosen so that the Danville fans at their own stadium could easily see it!

I don't know if that's true, but I do know you can see the fireworks from Danville, and it seems like a really awesome story!

Last year, on the way to the Thanksgiving doubleheader in northern Kentucky, I drove my dad past Ludlow, Bellevue, and Dayton on the way to Highlands and eventually Newport. He wasn't real familiar with the area (typically just drives through on the way to Cincinnati) and couldn't get over how close the schools/stadiums are. In our area, which is mostly dominated by counties with one school, it is a rarity to see that.

While Bishop Brossart doesn't currently have a field of their own and use Campbell Co.'s old field, the high schools are around 4 miles apart; both situated right off US 27.

Did not know that... pretty cool trivia

Yes

Thanks. For how long?

I know that because they are Independent Districts most of these schools exist...

I still can't help but wonder that with some of the financial shortfalls, enrollment drops, and issues keeping modernized schools up, if it wouldn't be wise for some of these jurisdictions to get together and find a way to do a combined High School?

I have seen it stated before that people have avoided moving into these areas because of the school system options. I also know that people are dying to get into Fort Thomas because the schools are so good.

I have to wonder that if Dayton, Newport, Ludlow, and Bellevue found a creative way to disperse tax money to build a new state of the art K-12 School and invested in teachers if it would spur the economy and property values enough to make an impact?

Geographically speaking these areas have a ton of potential if the infrastsucture and finances were just in place.

I also wonder what would happen if a charter school popped up in one of these areas?

Newport and Bellevue could definitely combine due to their close proximity and possibly Dayton. There's no way Ludlow could enter that equation.

Dayton could also be absorbed into Ft. Thomas but I see hell freezing over before that would happen! :whistling:
