Russellville is probably one of my favorite venues to learn about. Not only is the Stadium old school and cool, but they have the end zone with the raised surface in one corner if I recall

Withrow High School in Cincinnati has the really old school feel to it. Pretty cool place.

In reference to Paducah Tilghmans Memorial Stadium

 

" The first game at Memorial Stadium was played October 20th, 1956 against Jackson , TN. Seating capacity was listed @ 7500 and 6000 attended that opener. a late afternoon rain-storm and a misty night kept attendance short of capacity.

The stadium was built at a cost of $200,000 raised by public donations. Sam Livingston spearheaded the fundraising which was completed in less than a year.

The stadium was dedicated the following week with Pikeville furnishing the opposition.

Paducah Tilghman defeated Jackson 25-0 and Pikeville 27-6, snapping their 19 game unbeaten streak."

 

Also in the story from former (1921-1924) Coach Lawrence Sullivan

 

" We had been playing at Wilhelm Field, next to where the railroad shops stand, and I had told Mr. Jetton that I was tired of picking cinders out of my players knees and elbows"

 

Since then Memorial Fields capacity has been increased to over 10,000. More than once I have heard from the opposition-

"that place was half-empty"

Im a fan of the Harlan Green Dragon field tucked between the mountain, the flood wall, and river.

That was because it was a very rainy night and Fryar Stadium, Ft. Campbell's home field, had become a quagmire. Austin Peay had the closest field that was a turf stadium not affected by the constant rain.

Rhea Stadium, which is where Russellvllle plays its games, was built as a WPA project back in the 1930's. It was also shared by Russellville and Logan County until Logan County got its own stadium.

An another stadium that has an old school feel is Ty Holland Stadium at Murray. I was curious to see when that stadium was built. I know that was where Murray High School was. It is now where Murray Middle School is and just punt away from Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

Dayton high school has the most northern football field in the state and probably some of the steepest stands.

 

Fulton County HS would have the westernmost stadium. I'm guessing Phelps would be the easternmost and Fulton City the southernmost?
