  1. Depending on what they return, Johnson Central and Ashland should be added to this list. CovCath was lucky to beat JC in round 2 this year. Corbin will have a fall off some losing 4 year QB starter Kade Elam.
  2. Highlands was 6-5 with a 1st round playoff exit in 2019 and 5-6 with a 2nd round playoff exit in 2020, the two years before Sphire took over. Highlands had not won a regional title since 2015. The record and on field performance has improved significantly over the past 4 years. In comparison, Moeller was state semifinalists in 2021 and 2022 the two years before Bathiany took over in 2023. The talent cupboard was full and the program was achieving at a high level. When former coach, Mark Elder, took over at Moeller in 2020, Moeller had been 4-7, 2-8 and 6-5 the prior three years. Coach Elder went 3-6, 11-4 (State Semis) and 13-2 (State Semis) before leaving after the 2022 season. Coach Elder brought the Moeller program back to title contender status and Coach Bathiany has proven the ability to continue and advance that contender status to the title game this fall. Nobody should rule out the idea that Bathiany would take over at Highlands if the opportunity presented itself over the next few years. It is home for him and he would do a great job. As for salary comparisons, it is a lot easier for a private school to pay an uncertified teacher/coach a large sum of money, than it is for a public high school to come up with a large salary for a classified employee. Coming up with enough funds to pay a classified employee 80,000-100,000 to coach football would be difficult in a public school.
  3. Raceland has the best defense in 1A. Raceland will have no problem stopping KCD's offense. Raceland will win by several scores. A running clock shut out would not be a surprise.
  4. None of the teams Sayre played this year is still in the playoffs. 5 of the teams Pikeville played are still in the playoffs. Although RPI doesn't reward losing to good larger teams, November does reward playing a tough schedule.
  5. Watching the video in the first reply to the original tweet, it is surprising that there were no ejections. There are at a minimum, 2 legit fights taking place in the video.
  6. Clay County. Hazard beat Clay last week.
  7. The current RPI and the final RPI will change quite a bit over the next 2 weeks. KCD has at least 1 very likely, and possibly 2 losses left on the schedule with a decent Henry Co team. Bethlehem has 2 possible losses left on the schedule. Raceland has 1 loss left on the schedule. Newport should finish with 2 wins against teams with very low winning percentages. Campbellsville finishes with the best team on their schedule, undefeated Hart County. Hazard and Pikeville this week will likely drop Hazard out of the top 10 RPI. NCC finishes with decent winning percentage Bellevue and a winning percentage booster in 4A Holmes despite the Holmes winning percentage being 0. Ludlow finishes with a low WP Holy Cross and it doesn't look like Paris is quite the RPI boost they were when Brossart beat them. Brossart should win out but will face NCC in the 2nd round of the playoffs after losing to Ludlow. Sayre will win out and host through the playoffs, but Bracken County is the best team they will have played during the regular season. Pikeville should win out and beating Boyd will give them a winning percentage bump. The RPI is a terrible system to create matchups because there is no reward for playing a tough schedule unless you win. Every 1A team in the state would be 1 and 6 if they played Pikeville's schedule with the exception of maybe Campbellsville, Raceland and NCC. Every 1A team in the state with the exception of maybe Campbellsville, Raceland and Pikeville would have 4 losses if they played NCC's schedule. Every team 1A team in the state would have with the exception of maybe Campbellsville, Pikeville and NCC would finish with at least 5 losses if they played Raceland's schedule. There is a high probability that Campbellsville, Pikeville, Raceland, and NCC would be undefeated if they played the schedule of every 1A team in the state with the exception of Corbin on Hazard's schedule. Ashland Paul Blazer, Lexington Christian, Belfry, Ironton, Johnson Central, Corbin, GRC, Campbell County, Highlands, Conner and Lloyd would be running clock favorites against every 1A team in the state outside of Pikeville, Raceland, Campbellsville, NCC and possibly Sayre. The best teams will rise to the regional round, but matchups will determine if the actual best 4 teams play in the Semifinals. There is a round 3 scenario where we see Pikeville vs. Raceland and Campbellsville vs. NCC. If that is the case, the winner of those games will be huge favorites and likely running clock the team they play in round 4. This may not belong in this thread, if so feel free to move it.
  8. Its a 14 point swing if highlands scores coming out of the half. Great effort by the defender.
  9. That looked like a TD. The ball could have been coming out but all you have to do is cross that white line with control. The back judge had the best view.
  10. Take it for what it's worth, but Boone vs. Lloyd was 7-7 at the half. Boone vs. Campbell scrimmage was either tied or one score at the half.
  11. I meant 25/26.
  12. This should have said "25/26" seasons when the districts change.
  13. In 24/25, Boone will be competing with Scott to make the playoffs. They could create a very competitive schedule and win as many as 7 games if they schedule strategically enough. Young head coaches have to start somewhere. This would be a difficult job, but the obstacles to improving the program and putting together some winning seasons is not overbearing.
  14. NKY 4A and 5A. Cooper, Dixie, Boone, Conner, Scott are 5A. Covington Catholic, Highlands, Holmes are 4A.
  15. They are going to refuse to play for a coach that is unknown and hasn't been hired? How is not working out to improve and not playing hurting anyone other than the kid making that choice? This sounds like upset kids being acting like upset kids and once the smoke clears, they will likely end up playing football.
  16. Age should never be a factor in promoting a qualified person or hiring a head coach. The person either has the emotional and intellectual maturity to be in a leadership role, or they do not. That should be the factor that is judged rather than an arbitrary age requirement.
  17. It is important to understand that many people do not have any verification or idea that a certain coach applied for a job. It is a lot of throw names against the wall and see what sticks. Unfortunately, people see a name and regurgitate it as fact, when in reality somebody made it up. This is what causes the most problems.
  18. You can call it whatever you want. It’s the same defense.
  19. I am not privy to the whole game tape but here is the Highlands highlight reel from Hudl of the first game. Highlands vs. Cooper Highlights Game 1 The defensive structure used Friday night and the defensive structure used in the first game are very similar if not identical. The only real difference is rather than play a standup end, Alexander played a tighter technique with his hand down. From the highlights, Game 1 Cooper had a stand up 5/6 technique, a 1 technique, a 3 technique and a 5 technique. Game 2 Cooper had a hand down 5/6 technique, a 1 technique, a 3 technique and a 5 technique. The back end coverage looks and alignment looks identical. You can call one defense a 3-4 because the end is standing up and one defense a 4-2-5 because his hand is down, but in reality it is the same defense. Friday night, Cooper did a good job moving Alexander around up front and caused some problems for the bigger, slower Highlands lineman. Game 1 Game 2
  20. Not sure, the first game was 58-51 Highlands. It wasn’t a blowout. Cooper won this game. Highlands outscored Cooper 15-3 starting with the safety with around 6 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. It was a 17-15 game. One teams players made more plays than the other teams players.
  21. Highlands defensive adjustments turned 541 total yards into 221 total yards. Highlands defensive adjustments resulted in 321 fewer yards for Cooper.
  22. Highlands had 162 rushing and 88 passing for a total of 250 yards. Cooper had 101 yards rushing and 120 yards passing for a total of 221 yards. Highlands outgained Cooper on offense.
  23. If this is true, those 5 players will not be eligible to play again until next Friday. The KHSAA 8 quarter rule starts on Friday and runs through Thursday of the following week. So by rule, if they played 8 quarters on Saturday, they would be required to miss any games scheduled this week before Friday night's varsity game.
