2027-2028 Football Realignment
If the KHSAA wanted to make a significant, impactful adjustment to the alignment, they would create a Free and Reduced Lunch adjustment that lowers student enrollment numbers for schools that have high numbers of free and reduced lunch students. It is a fact that schools with higher percentages of FRL students have less participation in athletics, especially football. Just to add, RPI needs to be flushed down the toilet. It is a terrible system.

Kentucky Country Day 20 Raceland 16 (1A State Championship)
The Buffalo Bills. The issue for Raceland is they won't have enough time to get back into the game. Their offense looks nothing like it did for most of the year. They abandon the passing game this of time of year, every year.

Kentucky Country Day 20 Raceland 16 (1A State Championship)
I think this is the year for Raceland. KCD will be prepared and ready. Raceland will need to be disciplined on Defense, but I am not sure KCD can score enough to beat Raceland.

Shocked by the outcome. Beechwood couldn't stop them. I thought Beechwood would outscore everyone like they did last year. Congrats OC.

Is Highlands' Coach Sphire in a do or die situation?
He is paid as a certified special education teacher. The original post was about having a teaching certificate. He does have a teaching certificate.
-
Is Highlands' Coach Sphire in a do or die situation?
This is false. According to KDE he has a Rank 3 license to teach Special Education.

The only team in 2a that will come within 2 TD’s of Beechwood is Belfry. Beechwood rolls in this one.

Do Schools Have An Obligation to Report Stats?
Whoever made that schedule for PRP is probably the same person responsible for putting in stats. This is easily the most difficult schedule in the state. Other than setting kids up to fail, what would be the purpose of a perrenially bad team playing this schedule?

Playoff Withdrawals
Any coach with a vision for having a successful program should embrace having an extra week to coach up and develop kids that will be on the team next year. Teams that go deep in the playoffs have a competitive advantage over those that lose early by getting weeks of extra practice and development.

Campbellsville 27 Kentucky Country Day 17
RPI is a bad system. The district champion should never be lower than the district runner up. The largest discrepencies show up in 1A where beating a bunch of terrible 4A and 5A teams makes your winning percentage astronomical. It looks like KCD has been the #1 RPI seed every year but one since the inception of RPI. They have never traveled in the playoffs. Who stood out during this game? Neither of these teams should have any problem getting to the region.

St. Henry names Tim Sullivan head basketball coach
If this is true, I hope he found employment before submitting his resignation. Without loads of data, correction plans that weren't met, etc. It would have been nearly impossible for Cooper to fire him considering he is a tenured teacher.

Open Job: Mason County
All good examples. I stand by the assessment that it is more risky to hire someone from a distance that is not commutable. The hire has to pick up and move family, take kids out of schools away from friends, sell a house, buy a house, etc. Not saying it never works, but there is definitely more risk involved.

Open Job: Mason County
This is always a risk of hiring a person without connections to an area and lives 3+ hours away.

Most Important Hire in a KY School System.... Rural or Independent
A coach will never be the most important person hired in a school system. The superintendent and Principal are far more important than any coach will ever be. The people providing support or lack of support for a coach or athletics will always be the most important. Most athletic directors are glorified game supervisors. They have no power to hire/fire.

Tush Push to be Outlawed?
Are we banning football plays that are too successful now? The interesting part is the Bills attempted 3 sneaks without success against the Ravens. It's the people doing the play that are leading to success, not the play itself.

Frederick Douglass Transfer
Ok. So with this announcement, if he is ruled eligible, the KHSAA and any transfer rule is a farce. This kid just announced he was transferring for athletic reasons. It clearly states he is transferring to FD Football for his final 2 years.

Phillip Hawkins is the new head football coach at Henry Clay.
Is there redistricting taking place in FCPS?

Is Highlands' Coach Sphire in a do or die situation?
I forgot about 2019. They won 6 championships in 7 years. They won Championships in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022. Point being, the 2 programs had different needs and were in entirely different places.

Trinity vs. Ryle Predictions/Updates (6A State Championship)
The first 10 minutes was all Ryle, but Trinity has the momentum going into the half. Hopefully Ryle can regroup at halftime.

Is Highlands' Coach Sphire in a do or die situation?
When Highlands was hiring, Volker had never been a head coach and Highlands had not won a regional championship in 5+ seasons. Highlands had been eliminated from the playoffs in the 1st and 2nd rounds the prior two years with 6-5 and 5-6 records. At Beechwood, Volker took over a program that had won the state championship 6 years in a row. Volker was the perfect fit at Beechwood due to his defensive pedigree and his willingness to keep the staff intact with Hergott as offensive coordinator. The Beechwood administration wanted a defensive coach that would not rock the boat too much and had the conviction to make the hire despite Volker having a 3-17 record as a head coach. The hiring process at Highlands was a clinic in administrative incompetence, but they needed a coach with head coaching experience. In 2013, Weinrich took over a program that had won 6 State Championships in 7 years and also won the state championship as head coach in his first year. Highlands has been beaten by a team with better players in the State Semis for 2 straight seasons. There is no guarantee either of these coaches would have won these games. In fact, the 2 programs they took over were in far better shape than Highlands was when Sphire was hired. Both coaches still need to prove they can have a sustained high level of success over several years. So far, they have proven they can take a program with players that are already winning at a high level and keep winning at a high level. Coach Weinrich did the same thing his first two years at Highlands.
