Frederick Douglass Transfer

Featured Replies

Demond Green from Bryan Station just announced he'll be transferring to Frederick Douglass for his last 2 years of hs. Definitely a nice pick up for the Broncos.

He currently holds offers from Miami (OH), Toledo, Kent State, Ohio, Akron, & EKU.

Did he move?

If he enrolls at Carver G Woodson Academy which is a high school located inside of FD there will be no issue.

Would you please explain how that works for those of us that are not familiar with the process?

Carter G Woodson Academy is a k-12 all boy school/program. They have a building where their elementary school students attend, but they don't have a building for their Middle/Highschool students, so they've been residing in one of the wings at FD since the school opened in 2017 (if you ever go to a FD home game you can see Carter G's name and entrance facing FD's athletic facilities). The middle school students at Carter G play sports for the middle schools that their houses are districted to, while the high school students play for FD. Prior to FD opening they used to reside in Crawford Middle school. And at that point the middle school students played for Crawford while the highschool students were able to play for whatever school they were districted to.

If Demond enrolls into Carter G Woodson he'll have to play sports for FD regardless of where he currently resides. I'm pretty sure this should also grant him immediate eligibility.

Announcing transfers in high school now? What is this era.

Concur 100%.  As an old foggy, some of the aspects of the good old days certainly in retrospect were good.

I have a feeling Douglass is not done having transfers come their way this offseason.

The KHSAA simply no longer has any credibility in this area. Why?  Because their by-law regarding transfers clearly states that transfers are not allowed for athletics purposes. Either change the by-law (requires schools to vote for such a change) or enforce the by-law (requires enforcement by the KHSAA).

I don't see how other High Schools beside FD in Fayette County schools can keep coaches, Seems like FD is getting special treatment.

Ok. So with this announcement, if he is ruled eligible, the KHSAA and any transfer rule is a farce. This kid just announced he was transferring for athletic reasons. It clearly states he is transferring to FD Football for his final 2 years.

It's not that the rule is a farce because if he enrolled into FD then that rule would kick in and make him ineligible, but if he enrolls into Carter G then the rule gets bypassed because Carter G is its own thing. It's just a loop hole that can easily be exploited.

They have used that loophole to get plenty of players eligible.  They got to play down in class because the KHSAA wasn't counting those students against their enrollment but they were allowed to play sports at FD.
