FIRST OF ALL Demond is enrolled at DOUGLASS. SECOND OF ALL, Carter G Scholars that play football have been in the Academy at least since 7th, 8th grade. And why haven't any other Douglass sports utilized this "loophole"? Basketball? Soccer? Swim team?

I say change the by-law, and let kids transfer. First, no need to have a by-law that isn't going to be enforced anyway. Second, no need to punish the 1 kid out of 10 that isn't deemed eligible. 

 

My solution would be 1 free transfer once they enter the 9th grade.

Living in the Lexington area the transfer situation is so ugly more then people can image. Douglas/Carter G has affected a lot of schools we grew up and saw as powerhouse. But another main reason you see a lot of sports or talent all-round down in Lexington is the surrounding counties year after year are getting kids to come way more then what we was used to growing up. Used to be Lexington schools would get guys from the surrounding counties now it’s the complete opposite.

That definitely has some merit especially seeing that Douglas just lost a starter to Woodford county, BS also lost a starter to Woodford county last year. And one of my neighbors kids is a Starter for Great Crossing despite living in Lex. (Not holding anything against any of these athletes)

Man most of Woodford whole roster in basketball last few years still lives in Lexington and a few key guys in football too. GRC went to state championship back to back years with 3 key players from Lexington too. It’s not talked about enough but a lot of talent in Lexington has been leaving going to the smaller counties.

This statement is not true whatsoever. When Douglass opened in 2017 the school only had 874 total students which would have put them at a big 4A or small 5A they played the first two seasons as a 6A team because at the time 6A had 31 teams, so the KHSAA put them as a 6A school. The part about saying they were in 5A because they did not count the Carter G. kids is not correct, before the 2019 season when the KHSAA redistricted football Douglass was about to be put in 4A because they did fail to count the kids in the Carter G. Douglass actually informed them, they did not count those students (it was 84 o4 88 at the time). Douglass was around the middle of 5A based on numbers for the 2019 season. Their numbers increased yearly but due to Covid they delayed the redistricting until after the 2022 season. Douglass numbers then put them in 6A not sure a lot of people know this, but Douglass is still 8 years in the smallest of the 6 public high schools in FCPS.
