It's a great thing you're not on a college teams recruiting payroll. And that's not a shot at Plessinger, he's a good athlete.. More of a shot at UKs ability to recognize talent.

As for Cooper... Tough loss. Hopefully it humbled the kids. You're not the best until you beat everyone and win the trophy (sorry UK) and you can't think you're going to play an away game and just show up and win. Good news- non district game, means nothing for Cooper other than a L on the record.

Here's my observations from the game. Ludlow is not a bad team at all, unfortunately they aren't as athletic at Paris was. What I don't like seeing from Ludlow is coaches screaming at officials from the press box as well as Ludlow players (and Paris) continuing to run their mouths after a play. There was a time when Ludlow used "class of northern Ky" as its motto. Shut your mouth get back to the huddle. Oh and run back to the huddle too, don't walk. Paris is a talented team. Undisciplined though. There were times they could cause turnovers but instead went for a big hit and in turn, received penalties. Paris if you want to play with the big boys come playoff time, you better get that fixed. I was sad to see the young QB Maggard still hurt from last season. Great kid. Oh and the Paris announcer should make sure the mic is off before he starts complaining about calls lol. Overall, the game was sloppy. It was hot, there were a lot of kids going both ways (which in 1A what can you do), and both teams were quite chippy. Nice environment and I think both of these teams can be successful. There were a lot of fixable mistakes!

Paris looks undisciplined and Ludlow has shown signs of a first year quarterback. Too much talking amongst the teams and the officials really haven't done anything to quell it. At least from what I saw before I left.

Happy to say I was the one who broke the news(yea I was qwerty... And I don't know how I thought of that name). I've known Randy for a long time, played under him when he was a coordinator, and coached with him on the sidelines. No doubt in my mind that he was the best person for the Cooper job. He always knew what that school could become.. But it's still not where he wants it and it won't be until they are holding a trophy at the end of a season.

Scott will pull the starters by the 2nd quarter. Newport had a perfect storm of a bad offseason. I wouldn't say Scott is #2 in 4a but they are definitely getting better!

I definitely see Scott as a top 10 school but not top 5 yet. They are playing a better schedule and they do have some really nice athletes. Wooley and staff have done a good job. It takes a few years to get that winning attitude entrenched in the program. As for the rest of the Top 10, I think SK and Cooper are a toss up for 1 and 2. I would say Highlands and Ryle for 3/4. 5-10.... No idea.

I would love for Ludlow to win but Paris is extremely fast. I don't think Ludlow can keep up with them or keep it close. I'll say Paris wins by 28.

Cooper typically doesn't struggle with speed. Let's go back to the state run year.. They played plenty of teams with speed and did fine. Last year it wasn't speed that killed Cooper it was bigger schools running on them... And even then really only Dixie was solidly more physical than Cooper. Highlands isn't what I would call slow.. I mean I know they aren't as fast as SK and the 19 D1 kids you'll predict they have but not by any means are they slow.. Coopers defense is designed to be able to play against speed.

You said they will need a great defense to stop Bryan Station. Cooper has allowed one offensive TD In two games against quality opponents. You predicted a blow out against Cooper. I know it must be tough for Cooper to get more attention than you precious SK but hey, it happens.

With as close as I was to the Cooper program, the biggest win for Cooper is always the next win. You won't find Borchers, his staff, or his players bragging on what they accomplished. All they will tell is what they want to accomplish. And to Highlands #1 ... You stated earlier that every kids deserves playing time. You couldn't be farther from the truth. This is high school ball. The kids with the best ability play. Period. JV kids can be studs on JV and do nothing in varsity. It's the way it is. Nothing personal but high school football isn't an everyone gets an award sport. Being from highlands, you should know that. Those kids earned those state titles and developed the dynasty that has been Highlands football. If a JV kid didn't earn his spot over summer practices, he needs to keep working his tail end off, get better, and show those coaches everyday that he has no quit and he can get the job done. They will notice and he will get his shot. Until then, it's best for parents and fans to support the team, the coaches, and the program and keep their opinions in their minds and not spilling out their mouths to the kids. You want to destroy a program? Do that.

The way I've always looked at JV is it is a tool for younger guys to learn and also a great reward for those scout team guys who get their butts kicked all week. The scout team is the most important aspect of a team. You have a great scout team, your varsity team is more prepared. The year Cooper went to state, in the playoffs some freshmen were brought up for scout team. I believe those same kids were a couple stars from the game this past Friday... A certain running back as well as a certain lineman.

I can attest that the players would run through a wall for Borchers.. But only because he would do it for them. He holds them and his coaching staff accountable but he would also drop anything he was doing if any of them needed help. Very proud of where this team is now compared to 2008 but this is just the beginning and Coach Borchers would be the first to say that.

Cooper will keep the streak against NCC alive. As long as the kids don't get big heads from beating Highlands they should be good. I don't think it will be a blowout but a good game.

Awesome job Jags! Stay humble, stay hungry... If you don't, I know for a fact Coach Borchers will make sure you get there!

Cooper but I won't predict a score. It'll be a close one. What a great game to start the season off with!

Ok so here is what I was told from a buddy at the game. TCA did not play. Schlarman played some running back and had a couple scores. Cooper played more than one team tonight as I guess it was a rotating scrimmage. Cooper played Oldam, Dunbar, and Fairdale and beat all three teams with shut outs. i think it was a quarter by quarter thing and not so much one whole scrimmage.

Haven't heard back yet. All he told me is Cooper won every quarter and shut out Oldham. Once I hear more I'll update.

Going to have to disagree with you there UK...

I don't see where HB made an excuse. He said of the 9 runs scored, 2 were unearned. Also by saying Cooper is snake bitten doesn't mean that he's making excuses. It means they haven't gotten it done in the postseason.
