Bellarmine University basketball coach Scott Davenport had a couple important allies in the recruitment of Trinity High School guard Daniel Ramser, and they helped the Knights land a commitment from him on Thursday afternoon. “Coach Davenport and the whole staff made me feel like I was really wanted at Bellarmine, and that was the main reason I decided to commit there — and (in order) to be my grandparents’ favorite grandson,” Ramser said with a laugh. “Coach Davenport recruited me really hard, but my grandparents probably recruited me the hardest of anyone.” Ramser’s grandparents, Emmett and Pat, have been Knights’ season ticket-holders for years and were thrilled for him to receive a scholarship offer from Davenport in July. Next year, they’ll get to see Daniel suit up for the home team. “Being able to play here in front of my family was a big reason” for picking Bellarmine, he said. Ramser was one of Davenport’s top targets. The Knights’ coaches closely tracked his games with the Louisville Prospects club during the July evaluation period, when he showcased the steady, all-around game that has made him a key player for Trinity. The 6-foot-4 Ramser averaged 6.1 points and 2.8 rebounds last season for the state semifinalists. He shot 42.4 percent from the floor, including 37.2 percent (35 of 94) from 3-point range, and 81 percent at the free-throw line. “(Davenport) said the way I play would fit perfectly in their system,” Ramser said. “An all-around, unselfish, a team player. I do a lot of things that affect the game positively.” Trinity coach Mike Szabo called Ramser “a really good player” and “one of the finest young men I have had here.” “I am really proud of him and so happy to see all his efforts being rewarded with a basketball scholarship,” Szabo wrote in an email. “What a great situation for him to play for Coach Davenport at one of the very best NCAA Division II schools in the country.” Ramser is part of a loaded Shamrocks team that also includes University of Louisville commitment Raymond Spalding and Division I prospects D’Angelo West, Jax Levitch and Christian Thieneman, who also is a target of Bellarmine. “(Ramser) is an excellent shooter and can also drive and finish at the rim,” Szabo said. “He plays unselfishly and is an excellent passer and can guard multiple positions. He continues to improve and has a great upside.” Alabama-Huntsville, Williams College and Centre College are some of the other schools that recruited him. Szabo said Ramser has a 3.9 grade-point average and scored 31 on the ACT exam.

Tanner Johnson is better than at least ten on this list.

The 2015 class does seem to be a solid class. I am not sure what is the best way to define it however if we define it by D1 offers (not saying I know a better way). Is a "low" D1 offer (like NKU) a better offer than a "high" DII school? Is being the end of the bench for a D1 a better situation than lets say starting for DII? I guess it depends on what the kid and his family want, I am sure there is no wrong answer.

The top ten is pretty solid but after that I believe there are some obvious holes.

I will say that Ryne Callahan will be the best player in the 16th this season. Paired with the other returning players and graduation at Fleming County I can see the Vikings making the sweet 16 (not to mention the best coach in the region). Overall altough the 16th will be a little down this season. I know it always comes down to the draw but its hard to see this region winning a game in Rupp this basketball year.

I think that several of us want to like Dunbar but as Joker and I have discussed on other threads there is just something amiss with this team. I dont know if its "chemistry" issues, coaching issues, etc but again this summer they just dont click. Not an embarrassment when they are pounded by Trinity and Ballard this summer but losing to DeSales (and they are much down from last year) makes you scratch your head.

I guess thats a backhanded compliment to Raceland, prefer to lose to anyone but Boyd County or Russell. Alot of niceties being exchanged here....LOL....in the end I do think the Tomcats will win this one.

Congrats to the Hornets on winning their first game at their new stadium and turf field. Its awesome to see Salyersville get some really nice facilities. And to win the first game played there is great. :clap::clap::clap:

Looks like one way to get a kid is thru his stomach...... (below article from Courier-Journal) Eastern High School shooting guard Cameron Reed, one of the city's best shooters and wing scorers, announced Saturday morning that he has committed to the University of New Orleans while on a visit there. "It was just the people, the city, the support from everybody that's going to be there," Reed said. "The coaches are great to be around. Basketball is business, and I like that." The 6-foot-5 Reed, who averaged 14.8 points last season and was a second-team All-Seventh Region selection, received his first scholarship offer from New Orleans in late June. The Privateers' coaches, who considered him their top target at his position, continued to follow him last month while he played for the Louisville Magic club. He also had an offer from Austin Peay and recruiting interest from Wright State. Reed was able to play pick-up games during his visit, and the folks in the program were impressed. "They said you don't play selfishly and you take smart shots," Reed said. Another positive aspect of picking New Orleans? The food in the Big Easy. He ate oysters, crawfish, catfish and a couple po' boys during his expense-paid visit. Even the food in the campus cafeteria was excellent. "It was amazing, some of the best food I've ever had," he said

I believe the Golden Eagles will be better than they were last year. I know that Shane Hall is gone but I think all around they will be better and not so dependent to look for Hall so much. I say that Kyle Gullet is the best player in the region and Braxton Blair is a well experienced point guard on the team who has been thru many tough battles over the past seasons. The addition of probably Mason Blair to the starting lineup will be a big scoring lift as the young sophomore can light it up. Truman Salyer also returns who saw alot of PT last season. Until someone beats them (or the new coach and and players at Lawrence County gel) they have to be the favorite in the 15th.

Ronnie Carson was the second leading scorer in the state last season and played at East Jessamine County. Isaiah Johnson played at Madison Central last season and at Harlan as a sophomore DJ Jenkins was the top player at Harrison County last season.

I believe that Luke Johnson has transferred to Lafayette also.

So Jon Hood was wrong? How convenient that Ronnie Carson (East Jessamine), Isaiah Johnson (Madison Central) and DJ Jenkins (Harrison County) all transfer into Scott County. So Hicks says he doesnt even know how this happens? This is crazy.

Only starter loss was Robert Dence (their big) who signed with Transy.

Returns one of the best shooters in the state in Tanner Johnson and solid backcourt ace Jarod Griffin with two other starters. Always a very savy basketball team. The will definitely be in the mix for the regional crown, would not be surprised at all if they would win the region.

Obviously Will Parker is the of the top players in the 7th region and paired with "mini Parker" (junior Alex Cook) will be the duo that leads the team. Backcourt will be an issue but the biggest obstacle is that they are in the 7th region and probably the third best team behind Trinity and Ballard.

The 17th annual Battle of the Bridges Kentucky-Indiana all-star basketball series will take place Saturday at Mid America Sports Center, 1906 Watterson Trail in Louisville. The games go on all day, from 8:30 a.m. to the final tipoff at 8 p.m., pitting boys' and girls' teams from each state who are about to enter the third grade on up to the 12th grade. There will two courts with boys' and girls' games played simultaneously from the early in the morning until mid-afternoon before the final four contests all take place on Court A. The varsity girls' game will be at 6:30 p.m. EDT, and the varsity boys will be at 8. Admission is $7 for adults ages 19-64, $5 ages 7-18, $2 ages 4-6 and free for ages 3 and under and 65 and older. Admission is also free to active-duty military and first responders with proper ID.
