Put it this way if basketball got ten off season practices with no scrimmages against other teams this state would be up in arms.

So basketball gets to practice and play games in the summer but football can't? Let's not equate spring football with summer basketball because they are not equal.

Isn't that what AAU, summer and fall ball do for baseball and basketball????

Waste of money IMO. Could go to a lot of camps at schools of interest for that money.

79-20 my junior year. I won't name the opponent because it's not fair to their current coaches. Still have a bad taste in my mouth about that one.

They do have advantages, but few are related to sports.

Easily an A. Sure the Cabell Midland game sticks out. Lawrence County nearly got them the next week, too. But, by the end of the season Belfry was dominant. Can't speak for every Belfry team, but it may have been the best one that I've seen. When you put a running clock on every playoff opponent, including the state semis and state final, (plus not to mention a running clock on the 4A runner up) and your record in 14-1, I don't know how it could be any lower.

There isn't one 3A team that would have beat a healthy Belfry by the end of the year last year. Not sure any of them could have really kept it close by the end of the year, good matchup or not.

Horton is the best DL in KY in a long time IMO. Won't be rated like Elam though.

Once a kid is discouraged from playing a sport they truly want to play, we've lost focus of what is really important about high school sports. I'm crazy competitive, I hate losing more than I love winning, but I realize that high school sports serve many purposes for our kids, and winning is only one part of that. Its an important part no doubt, but overall these are kids and preventing them from playing a sport isn't fair to them in the long run. Most schools have in school weights, so a kid can lift and workout then, usually with the football team. Any kid that wants to get better, will have the opportunity. Now, I can see where some kids may try to play a sport like baseball to get out of lifting & running for football, but that kid isn't going to be getting better in the off-season anyway. Our school has a couple of really athletic classes back to back to back right now (rare for our community and many rural small school in general). Most of our kids play three sports: Football, Basketball, and Baseball/Track. Success in one has led to success in the other areas. It doesn't take away from it. I don't think WC Football, Basketball, Track and Baseball have ever all been pretty good at the same time, and kids playing other sports hasn't hurt any of them.

GC is the favorite. However if they get matched up against Planck or Jordan, there are no guarantees for them.

Which experienced coaches applied? Is Grizzle any more green than Mullins was? GC is getting a young, hungry HC that is an excellent guy to boot. As a neutral party I think this was the hire that made sense.

Still 50 points and 14 rebounds per game, you have to make the team.

Maynard went to his alma mater to be HC. Sammons took over as HC at Raceland and is still there. Grizzle is leaving for a promotion. Was the OC/QB an will now be the HC at Greenup. Don't know of other coaches leaving there.

Well in this case a coach is moving up, from OC to Head Coach.

Had the pleasure of working with Scott a couple of offseasons ago. Great guy and great coach. He'll do a great job at GC. Best of luck.

EKC is the oldest conference in KY, at least according to local lore. Same teams, unless a team is added or leaves the conference. For instance, Russell is a new addition from the last few years. As much as possible, teams are matched up that don't play in the regular season. Sometimes that's not always possible, but it's the goal. The sites rotate. Money goes toward the EKC banquet. Overall the EKC does a great job promoting area football.

In fairness to the coach that I've heard it may be, I won't name them. I think it would be a very good hire though. No real info though. Just hearsay.

True. He had a time getting over his ankle injury. Ben is a great player and GREAT kid. Wish they would have won but glad he made a nice showing in this showdown.

Disagree. Huge chance to evaluate some kids and for kids to get the chance to prove they have something to offer.
