Belfry Pirates - 2015 Grade

Featured Replies

A-

The Pirates had an extremely dominating and impressive 2015 season capped off with possibly their most dominating performance ever in the state championship game over LexCath.

However, Belfry was embarrassed by WV power Cabell Midland. Not just beat, they were embarrassed, thus my reasoning for the grade of A-.

Do you agree or Disagree with the A- grade? Why? What should it be?

Slightly disagree. I watched them in the finals and thought they were SUPERB!

They were a machine.

I would give them a A.

I understand the grade vs. the WV team, but was there anyone injured for Belfry?

I agree Belfry did look superb in the finals. Frankly, I was shocked at just how good they looked but I do think LexCath was a very favorable matchup for them.

I do remember talk of some players not playing against Midland but they don't ask how, just how many.

Now that I'm think about it an A- might be right. I would have to see how you grade other teams.

It is going to be downhill after today. :D

A+

They lost to the WV team but the team got stronger as the season progressed even though they won a close game against Lawerence. They not only beat the team in the finals but destroyed them.

97% A

All it takes is one night of staying out late and blowing off your responsibilities.

Noone checked the boxes better than Belfry. They handily defeated 2 State Champs and 3 Runner-Ups. They destroyed the 4A Champs from the Volunteer State and left zero doubt they were the Kings of their Class. Talk about extra credit!

The problem is a two week stretch where they weren't themselves that involved completely forgetting they had an Exam which they bombed. Still sporting the hangover and kicking themselves they followed it up by nearly failing a pop quiz against Lawrence County.

The good news for Belfry is they have already essentially graduated as a Junior... still one more year left. Will Belfry shoot for Ivy League Status or be complacent?

There isn't one 3A team that would have beat a healthy Belfry by the end of the year last year. Not sure any of them could have really kept it close by the end of the year, good matchup or not.

What is your grade for the Pirates?

Easily an A. Sure the Cabell Midland game sticks out. Lawrence County nearly got them the next week, too. But, by the end of the season Belfry was dominant. Can't speak for every Belfry team, but it may have been the best one that I've seen. When you put a running clock on every playoff opponent, including the state semis and state final, (plus not to mention a running clock on the 4A runner up) and your record in 14-1, I don't know how it could be any lower.

For me, I go with Guru's A-. If they beat Cabell it's an A+. If they play decent and lose it's an A. It's tough when your good; get an easy victory in the State Championship game and only get an A-. Life's tough. Terrific season and squad; tough microscope.

Dead on in my opinion!

Solid A.

Just one loss in the regular season and a very tough schedule. Add to that, whipping a very strong opponent in the finals earns the Pirates a solid A, imo.

Great post. Agree completely.
