Greenup County vs. the field in the 16th Region

Featured Replies

The Musketeers just completed an unbeaten trip to Vero Beach, Florida, improving their record on the season to 14-0. With a great rotation of arms and an offense that has produced about 9 runs per game so far, who can threaten them in the 16th region this year? Greenup already has a ten run victory over West Carter, arguably the region's second best team.

As of right now, is there a heavier regional favorite elsewhere in the state than the Musketeers?

GC is the favorite. However if they get matched up against Planck or Jordan, there are no guarantees for them.

When Gc played West Jordan did not pitch. Gc is by far the best TEAM in the region but as well know the playoff setup comes down to 1 game series. If a match up were to include Jordan for West Carter things could go different but I still see them prevailing. 16th Region will come down to how the bracket setups once it is laid out, WC & Rowan may have to burn an ace just to get to GC. Don't forget about EC & Boyd either, this is however GC's region to lose by a long shot.

I guess we will see on Thursday when they play Rowan Co.

I wouldn't pitch Planck against then yet.

What's your reasoning on why you would say not to pitch Planck? That makes no sense to me. Why wouldn't a team use their best pitcher during the season against the best team in the State? What happens on Thursday shouldn't effect what is going to happen in the Regional Tourney. Meaning it will not effect Rowan if they throw Planck on Thursday and happen to throw him again against them in the Regional Tourney if that happens. Planck is Planck..he's going to dominate even if a team sees him twice.

Greenup is the best team right now. We will see on Thursday if that holds up.

I know from personal experience facing a future 1st round draft pitcher in Brad Duvall from Virginia Tech that the more times one sees the 94 mph fastball and the 88mph slider that you are better prepared for it.

I would not throw Planck or Jordan against Greenup County until the Regional Tournament.

By the way, I eventually hit a game-winning RBI single against Duvall for a 2-1 win. The more times I saw him, the better I hit.

I strongly disagree with that. Who knows what Rowan is going to do or not on Thursday. Only those who are apart of the program would know. But if I had a MLB top pick in my rotation I would pitch him against the best teams out there. Planck already beat West Carter. There's no guarantee Rowan is going to face Greenup or West in Region. Greenup might have to face West. Who knows at this point.

I have watched these hitters from Greenup County for the past 10 years. They are smart enough to figure out Planck and Jordan after seeing them more than once.

Rowan County and West Carter would not meet until the semifinals if both win their districts. The only scenario where Planck and Jordan would not face Greenup County in the 16th Region Tournament would be if Rowan County and West Carter play each other in one side of the bracket and Greenup County is on the other side.

Yes , it`s been a year ,but GC hit Planck hard . That being said GC is a year older also, SR, jr and So, not JR , So , Fr. Plus Coldiron and Joey Evans are Hitting a lot better this year. Plank and Jordan are big time, but there teams have to hit, score and field. Greenup has at lest 3 D-1 players, and a few more who will more than likely play some where. And my OP Greenup is still not at the top of there game. Yes 14-0 is great, but they can still get better. There (D) is not been great so far. When that gets fixed , look out. The runs so far ,with Homeruns ( witch I feel there will be many more) is a huge jump from last years team. Can Plank and Jordan give GC trouble yes, But it takes a team, and Greenup is tuff from top to bottom. Plus Tristian Downing back gives GC an Ace a little below Plank and Jordan. The 1 team I feel who could make a run is Russell . East is right there too.. But yes, the Region is Greenup`s to lose. Could go undefeated in Region play, Yes.. Hole season , probably not. A lot of tuff games to go. The Logan`s (Coaches) are not afraid to play the best, to make sure come tournament time GC is ready, BY the way , Plank did beat west. But that's not much to write home about. I hope Rowan and West pitch them both vs Greenup.

I'll take the field all day long

Plank is good, I don't know about top MLB pick, yes will get drafted out of high school . MY OP Between rounds 5-10 witch is still great. And saying he beat West, is not even close to beating a team like Greenup. I hope Plank and Jordan both get drafted high. MY OP if its after the 5th round ,you go to school. But every body`s different .

IT is tuff to repeat , but the 16th is down. Other than Greenup, there`s 2 Great pitchers. With nothing to help them.

I honestly don't see why you would pitch planck against GC in a regular season game. To be honest its just another game, I don't want to say it's meaningless but they aren't district opponents so what are you accomplishing by letting a team like GC see your ace more then they have too? More times you see any pitcher the more prepared you are going to be down the road. A win over a high ranked team in the regular season is great but when it diminishes your chance of beating that same team in the post season I would be against throwing him. Not sure what West pitching situation was but they didn't throw Jordan vs GC and that 12-2 loss looks bad but GC is less prepared for Jordan then they could be now. I believe I am right that Jordan pitched the game before GC, if they were truly worried about having a chance to beat GC in regular season they would have gave him that day off and pitched him vs GC.

Don't be surprised if Rowan is the team in the 16th everyone is talking about later this year that could match up with Greenup. Rowan has more pitching on the team this year than last. A lot of good young arms that throw hard. There's potential there.
