My son attended a "USA Football" camp up in Louisville last week and was "invited" to "continue working out with the US national team" at a development camp in Canton,OH this summer.

Does anyone have experience with this organization? Is it legit, or is it a money grab where most kids get invited to the next step? It is fairly expensive. The kids get a week of camp with a full contact game on Saturday.

He really wants to go and I want to make sure it's not a waste of time and money. The cost is $850.

Ryle has a upcoming senior Linebacker that has been part of this program for the past few years. Eventhough the cost is $850, there are many opportunities that he has benefitted from. He has played on the USA National team the past two years where they travel down to Dallas and play at AT&T Stadium where the Cowboys play. They practice for a week and play other teams from Canada. As a result of this and his ability he has had exposure to numerous D1, D2 and D3 schools. I know his parents and they were very much part of this program and I'm sure will tell you it was worth the effort and expense.

Waste of money IMO. Could go to a lot of camps at schools of interest for that money.

He has been to other camps and combines and I'm wondering if I'm now on a list of gullible parents

My opinion differs than most regarding camps, combines and showcases in regards to recruiting services, colleges or training facilities (showcases). College camps are a must and should be the 1st choice/priority. Certain combines like the Nike+ are invitation only and a coach recommendation is needed. This combine is very good. Give you a good comparison as to where your child compare to others, even big time prospects. As far as the recruiting services Like NUC, NCSA, even the USA Football that you are considering. Even the Showcases. I'll gladly pay $60-$90 for a day long (half day) long showcase to have my kid off the Xbox. They get to line up on 1 vs 1 and get punched in the face for a few hours. I use it for that experience only, not college exposure. For that you need college camps. Lets face it, The competition at all of these are way better than going against your teams 3rd string scout team players. Way better than being on xbox all day.

The other poster is correct. For $850, you can send him to 17 college camps as they are typically $50 each.

All depends on what you want out of it.

 

If he knows what schools he wants to go to then you need to get out to their camps. If he has no clue or doesnt care, then this could be an option.

Another question, how many kids from the regional camp got invites to the second camp?

that's a 5 day camp. that's about $75 a day for room and $25 a day for food and $70 a day for camp. Not bad when you break it down but its still a nice chunk of change and a little steep for my blood. :-)

@Raider mom...Fletch did a good job providing insight on to go, or not to go to a "super regional" camp. I'm of the choose target and reach schools mindset...attend their camps and build inroads there. Most FBS camps this summer will have Div 2,3, NAIA coaches in attendance assisting with and recruiting athletes.

 

Ohio University satellite camp at Mason HS on Monday did and UC camps will as well.

NAIA - Cumberland (TN), Cincinnati Christian

 

FCS - Princeton, Butler
