This. Anyone who disagrees does not understand the logistics of small, EKY programs, and the financial resources of these programs and the players within. If we had to play in the NKY district, we'd likely have to drop out of district play. Three road trips to NKY would be crazy expensive, not just for the program but for our players families as well. We choose to play in a higher class, with larger schools. All schools should have the ability to do that if it is in their best interest. After all, its what's best for our kids. JMO, but too often the people outside the programs do not always keep that in mind. I have not seen an argument that would make me even consider the idea that teams shouldn't be able to play up. Where is the secrecy? What are these schools doing that is so bad? Playing larger schools? If Highlands is 4A and wants to play 5A, who are they hurting? Playing down is another story.

Schools playing out of class currently seems more likely, you're right :thumb:.

The up/down wasn't requested. We were placed in 2A last go around but financially couldn't play in a district nearly 3 hours away.

Sell them for $500 and give teams the option to purchase multiple at a lower cost. Few can pay $1500-$2000.

You can get a cabin at Carter Caves. That's about the nicest we have in Olive Hill. Spanish Manor Inn is a place too but most would choose to stay in Grayson which is 10 minutes away.

Fairview's ineligible player was a player that was in his 5th year of high school. I believe that was an over-cite because I just don't believe a school would knowingly do that, being that the kid was from another school 5 minutes away.

Brown was nominated. Don't know if you we're talking to me though. Lots of very good players in this state, hard to recognize all of them. No complaints from me. :thumb:

Would have loved to have seen Braden Brown on there as an athlete. Not complaining, just think he had an excellent year.

While this may not always be the case many teams that run split field coverage set their passing strength to the field if the offense is in a balanced set. This can bring an extra defender to the party on that side of the field if a team in in a split field coverage. In that situation the numbers would actually suggest a run to the boundary, if a team is running the ball. That said in EKY we don't see much split field coverage and if we do there isn't the plus 1 to the read side that you see in say TCU's defensive scheme. Just something to think about.

Not even a team consisting of the 85 best high school players in the country? I disagree. They wouldn't beat the really good teams, but there are plenty of even FBS teams that they'd beat IMO.

Small school, obviously we have guys that have to go both ways. Minor adjustments can be made on the sideline or during a timeout. Major adjustments are better served at halftime when you can really use a whiteboard and walk through what you want. JMO

Double wing was weird for a whole but it's somewhat common now. With Morgan being close, most have seen it. There are keys to it but I couldn't key the QB.

Strangest? Like unique? Played against the single-wing it's pretty strange. Usually the strange stuff is stuff that no one else you've played does. When Chiefsmoke coached in our area his offense was strange, compared to the others. Used a lot of formation, unbalanced lines, tackle over, etc. It was strange because no one else really did it, and if they did they didn't do it at the no huddle pace that he did. As a defensive coach you knew the plays you were going to get, but it was a chess match trying to get in the right call for a formation they gave you. He had multiple personnel packages and it was a headache to defend. You had to go about it one of two ways, either you could be complex and try to match the formations or you could be very vanilla. I think he did/does an excellent job of exploiting whatever of the two paths you picked. Teams that excel at an area of the game that they shouldn't by nature of their offense is also tough and strange. Take Lawrence County. They ran a belly/option attack but had a great QB and some stud WRs. Tough to have enough bodies in the box to defend Belly while still being able to cover those WRs. In a drop back spread scheme you might be able to take away some throws, but from 21 personnel it's very tough. Anymore the Wing-T is strange. I see a day when teams move back to it and it becomes familiar again but a well oiled machine of a wing-t team would be a handful today.

In man coverage you only look if you're in phase. That means you can touch the receiver and have the right leverage. If you look and aren't in phase you can play a good throw which is what you always expect in coverage. If you're not in phase you play the ball out of the WRs hands.

They'd be more competitive than you'd think. We're not talking about one high school team, were talking about kids that will play as freshmen for good teams.

Love the way Belfry plays. Love that offense. Triple/Belly/option is the worst to defend IMO because it is the most reliant on players doing their job. A lot of the spread stuff you can take things away defensively with schemes, disguises, etc. You try to do those things against flexbone triple, but one player not playing their assignment is six. It's not perfect. Things can be taken away by a good defense. But it's a tough man's offense and one of every DCs most hated to play. There's a reason most big NCAA teams don't schedule Navy or Air Force.
