No doubt. It's a double standard. If neither are productive in the classroom, the coach is at least contributing to the school. How teachers teach depends a ton on the culture of the school and district. I see no reason that a coach wouldn't be among the best teachers in the school. Depending on the demands of the job the HC of a sport may need a lighter class load (at the really big or really small schools), but most coaches do a good job in the classroom when the expectations at that school are high.

Coaches get a bad name as teachers. Today schools have to worry about test scores, CCR, etc or administrators lose their jobs. Hard to gamble on a coach because of the stereotype. It's a bad stereotype but it does exist. In interviews I was told not to mention athletics. That's sad because I feel athletics contributes to my role as an educator and to our schools success. My current job wasn't like that because it's home, but the previous two interviews I had were.

Offensively what makes Coach B's offenses so tough to defend is how multiple his sets and personnel are. He's big on personnel, and you have to stay on top of who is in the game. I don't know how he keeps track of who is in, because it sure is hard to defensively. May not run a ton of different plays, but can give you a million looks. He'll find the look he wants to give his best plays a chance to work.

Just an awesome football player. One of the best I've seen in this area.

Yeah I have a chip on my shoulder. I feel that the state is slowly sucking the life out of football, which is the sport in which more kids can play than any. I'm ready for one change that actually benefits football.

So football gets no offseason competition but basketball does? How is that fair? Its not. I just don't see a valid argument. How about limit the days for each? Give basketball Monday-Wednesday, and football thursday-saturday (and then switch it next year). No outside competition outside your days during June. Limit teams to 5-6 passing league competition days, and basketball to 10 competition days in the month of June. That would be a compromise and would keep coaches from forcing a kid to choose.

Basketball does not share anything in this state. Its 1, and the rest of us are 2. A fair compromise would be to go back to the old way, or prevent basketball from scrimmaging in June. That would be the only two fair and even ways. No other way around it. Anything we do in football against another team is during our season. I don't think any other sport is limited like that.

Sandman, What one has to do with the other is that it seems to many football people that June passing league was eliminated so kids could focus on summer basketball. Now if we want we have to do it during the practice season and are severely limited as to when. It cuts into potential practice time. With summer basketball camps you lose nothing. It's not during the season and there seems to be no limit as it seems to go on until dead period. It's not about safety. Passing league is as safe as basketball if not safer. It's either the state choosing one sport over the other or just not really knowing the value of summer work in football and the safety it can provide.

That's part of the season!!!! Not the offseason or summer. It's not different that the beginning of basketball. That's what basketball people forget or don't care about. If that's all basketball got besides 10 practices bball people would flip. That's the fact.

Basketball gets June to scrimmage and football gets nothing. That's what basketball people don't understand. Saying we get July is ridiculous. That's part of the season. BBall gets a month to get in as many scrimmages as possible and we can't even do passing league that month. It's ridiculous. Give basketball ten days to get their offseason work in and then check the outrage.

Could a self aware MS guy step up and move directly to a HS HC successfully? Sure. Need good experienced people on the staff and the awareness that HS and middle are different animals. Much deeper scouting, in depth coaching, players can handle more responsibility, etc. I'll say this though, it is a hard adjustment for most if they haven't coaches HS ball before. Ultimately, though they can have success, especially at a less established program. Trinity certainly would likely not go this route but schools with limited success may be able to do this with success

Awesome for Elliott County. I can remember watching their group play as little kids at the annual tournaments at West Carter. Best of luck to them at Rupp. Congrats to the Elliott players, staff and community.

He's a heck of a LB. Could also be a very good H-Back or flex TE for a spread team. Either wouldn't surprise me.

Hate to see this for the EC girls. They're a great group of kids, and after West went down, I was hoping to see the Lady Raiders make it to Bowling Green. Good luck to Ashland going forward.
