Was Dave Wirth fired, or did he resign?
KyBigHorns replied to theguru's topic in KY Football (High School)
Does it matter? It was time for him to move on. -
Yes, CovCath's coaches are out coaching the NewCath & the other teams in NKY. This is the 4th season for Ruthsatz & company. Every year they have exceeded the preseason projections & polls. CCH coaches game plans are excellent, they find the opposing teams strengths, then they take it from them. They coach their players up, instill confidence in them. Just look at what they've done with payers like Pauley, Tobler, Schult, B.Heppler, Keller, Romes, Theobald.... they find out what strengths a player has , then they use it to their advantage as a team. Not buying the tradition thing either. Ruthsatz is the new CCH tradition...hard nosed defense, leave it all on the court or you'll be on the bench, next man up, roll players, no I in team. CovCath has had good to great high school talent over the years but have never won as consistently in the last 40 years as they are now. They are becoming known in the state as a contender not a pretender. Ruthsatz & company are the best in the state, IMHO.

I'm torn......270 or 30-06.......?
KyBigHorns replied to Oldtimebaseball84's topic in The Great Outdoors
Buying a rifle, especially a first rifle is a difficult choice. All the calibers mentioned will kill a deer with proper bullet placement, proper placement being the key word. Proper bullet placement comes with practice. People tend to shoot/practice more with a gun that doesn't kick as much. In my opinion you should consider the 7mm-08. It will flat out kill a deer at 300+ yds, it's easy to shoot & it will kill elk size animals at reasonable ranges. -
Update on Cov Cath - Lights/Stadium/Schedule??
KyBigHorns replied to footballfan18's topic in KY Football (High School)
Just to clarify..... Tennis Courts are currently under construction & will be ready in the spring of 2015. Academic building is next priority- Will house new Science Technology Engineering Math (S.T.E.M) Program & fine arts. Football stadium renovation with lights will be done next as monies allow. NOTE: lights will not come without facility upgrades due to safety & access issues. Gym renovation & field house will be down the road. -

Last Game for Coach Ruthsatz?
KyBigHorns replied to ColonelNation32's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I hope that this is correct. Scott R, Tony B., Joe F, Otte, Stevens, Sorrell, Elliott are one of, if not the best in the state. Adding Joe F to the staff this year took it over the top. What they have accomplished in 3 years is incredible, to say the least. -
Last Game for Coach Ruthsatz?
KyBigHorns replied to ColonelNation32's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Scott Ruthsatz has done a great, awesome, exceptional job at CCH but he was not a slam dunk to succeed as a head coach. His coaching history was very limited started out as an assistant At Heidelberg College, Head Coach a St Mary's Central(Very Small School) 500-600 kids K-12 & an assistant at St.Anthony's NJ for 3 years. He was not the top or even an upper level assistant for Coach Hurley but obviously he was paying attention & learned how to coach. -
Covington Catholic 61 Bardstown 54
KyBigHorns replied to Randy Parker's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
CCH win because they're balanced all 5 starters can beat you. Clay co let the shoot 3's ruthsatz & heppler made them pay. Bardstown took the 3 game away from CCH so Mark the shark took care of business down low. They will continue their winning ways tonight! -
For most it wasn't a big surprise that they went outside the "family tree" when they hired Scott. Bob Rowe wanted the culture of the program to change. The only way that was going to happen was to start over.

I hope I get this point across without taking away from Nick's leadership & outstanding play on the court. As good as Nick is, and he is very good. But I believe in the big picture, Scott Ruthsatz & his coaching staff is what has made the biggest difference to the program. The entire culture has changed within the CCH basketball program. They now develop player skills, instilling toughness, play hard nosed defense, players give 110% or they don't play, they play for championships.... this is not your dad's CovCath basketball program! It is far better.

Congratulations to the Cov Cath on a great regional tournament! Interesting the way it played out over the past 2 years. 2013 Holmes beats CCH in the regular season. CCH beats Holmes in the district finals. Holmes draws the assumed tougher side of the bracket with Cooper & NCC. Holmes goes on to be regional champs 2014 CCH beats Holmes in the regular season Holmes Beats CCH in the district finals CCH draws the assumed tougher side of the bracket Ryle & NCC CCH wins regional finals. Rivalries like this make high school basketball great!

Covington Catholic 74 Ryle 40 (9th)
KyBigHorns replied to Lawnboy13's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Let me start off by saying Nick Ruthsatz is a very good player that any team would love to have. He deserves all the accolades that he gets. CCH fans are happy to have him. But his team mates tend to get over shadowed by him, same thing happens at Dixie with Hatton, NCC with McDonald, Holmes with Bolden....these team are the best of the best in the area because they have high quality players around their stars. -

You are correct. Mark is Billy's younger brother. Not surprised that Mark doesn't receive much love. No one seems to understand that CCH has very good players beside Nick R. Same thing happened to the seniors on last years team. Not surprised -

If CCH continues to play the way they did last night, they will have a very, very good chance of winning the region. Team ball, going through offensive rotations, getting the open shot, taking advantage of the open looks & swarming defense. Tip of the hat to Mark Schult on an outstanding performance. He came ready to play, seized the opportunity & played like a senior leader. Well done Mark! I think CVH needs some kudos as well. Ryle's #20(sorry I don't know his name) came out on fire, I believe he had 11 after the first quarter. CCH coaching staff decided enough was enough and gave CVH the task of face guarding him. CVG totally shut him down, sparking the CCH second quarter run, game over. -
This thread would not even be happening if Mike L would let it go. He continues to make a fool of himself when Holmes plays CCH somehow trying to prove something to CCH. There is no reason for him to yell at the CCH coaches & players during the games. I'm sure he doesn't act like that when Holmes plays other teams.

Your 9th Region Bracket Prediction
KyBigHorns replied to Lawnboy13's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
The Breds need to pack their bags, they're headed to Rupp. -
Had nothing to do with "little Johnny's" playing time. It was about the head coach loosing the control/respect of the players. It went on too long, it was time for a change. When Mike left people still respected him but his action over the past few years towards the CCH coaching staff & players is causing people to reconsider what Mike L is all about.

Bishop is another one I like for CCH, plays hard nosed, decent handle, likes to take to the rim. Gunner Schuh also has impressed, very smooth under control player.
