  1. First...calm down. Second, I mentioned all of the above because they are all different. Go from being a pitcher in the spring to being a quarterback in the fall to playing volleyball in the winter. They are all different movements in regards to how they stress the the shoulder. The article was about throwing athletes then went off on a tangent. Jumping and cutting is perfectly fine. Go for it year round. I'm saying that there are ways to reduce the injury rate with proper programming and implementation.
  2. Because of how the movements are being done. Throwing a baseball is different than throwing a football, which is different than spiking a volleyball, which is different than shooting in LAX. Doing something the same way for prolonged amounts of time will cause break down. During the deceleration phase of throwing, pitching specifically, extremely high forces are generated by the musculature of the rotator cuff. Putting something under such great amounts of stress for long amounts of time will lead to higher incidences of trauma. The way in which force and stress is applied to the shoulder needs to be changed, or given a rest, to cut down on the likelihood of injury. In regards to jumping and cutting, yes that is basically seen in every sport in one form or another. Injuries most often associated with jumps and cuts are more often related to poor mechanics on the landings and muscular imbalances between the quadriceps and hamstrings. Injuries like that can be reduced with proper coaching and strength training.
  3. This thread should be split in to two. One about the AAU/Club sports and one about the injuries. In regards to the injuries, many of the overuse injuries are occurring in sports with primarily overhead athletes (baseball and volleyball). With the way the shoulder and elbow are structured the repetitive stress that throwing and hitting a volleyball require put a major wear on the joint and it's structures. There have been studies done showing that many former/current overhead athletes have some form of structural damage to their shoulders from the repetition of the motion whether they know it or not. These were done on athletes who participated in more of a year round program and compared with those who participated in other sports during the year with the year round athlete having the higher percentage of shoulder/elbow issues. You can't argue with the facts that if you participate year round in one sport that the chance of a non-contact injury are going to go up.
  4. Baseball is right there with basketball with these "showcases" being one of the worst.
  5. This about sums it up. Solid.
  6. Yo doggie!! That's a frigging truck coming at you!
  7. North of 195lb
  8. Congrats and good luck to him
  9. Trinity does 7on7, conditioning and weight training in the spring. No practice.
  10. As a Trinity guy I hated watching him play because I always knew that he would make something happen for X. But I also loved watching him play for that reason too. He was always around the ball and always making a huge impact on the game. Super explosive player.
  11. My top 3 in no order -Alan Hennessey (just based off of stories) -Jeff Brohm (the best athlete of all the Brohm boys. Had he been in Beatty's offense i think he would have been even better than he was.) -James Quick (no explanation)
  12. Are we forgetting Alan Hennessey? Anthony Wadja was game changer at Safety. Had a nice career at UK too. No Jeff Brohm? Man this is tough.... :idunno:
  13. Everything about this is true. Nice post. Congrats to Mr. Purcell.
  14. Agreed. Didn't Trinity play Lex Catholic and smack them pretty good? I know comparing common opponents isn't really a great thing, but if they won't play X (who is just as good as Trinity on any day) why would they play T?
  15. Outstanding effort by the Rocks tonight!! Great job on both sides, but especially to our goalie Cody T (can't spell his last name). Very happy for the seniors. No better way to finish their time at Trinity. Beat X in the state finals on Friday and have graduation festivities on Saturday and Sunday! Congrats men!
  16. Best back in the state isn't in Louisville. Damien Harris at Madison Southern.
  17. Bishop Gorman High School Home | Bishop Gorman Football The facilities are SICK!
  18. Yes i believe that it is the first time they've faced each other. That triple option that they've perfected is going to be very very difficult to stop.
  19. Very true. All we can do as fans is speculate and wait and see.
  20. I should have worded that differently. There will be a drop off without Quick, obviously. He was a once in a long time type of player at the HS level. Donald Brooks who will be taking Dawkins place is a special player. The cupboard is not bare at Trinity. They lost a lot of talent, but they have some waiting to get their shot. It may take a few weeks in to the season for it to happen, but the offense will find their groove. The D will be the question mark coming in to this season. Lots of new faces on that side of the ball.
  21. Offensively they will be just fine. Little to no drop off once things get rolling. Defense will be the unknown going in to the year for this team. Colerain gives most teams fits with their style, so they will be very difficult. It will be an exciting year. This team will take some punches early, but like AT said, barring major injuries I think they will be on top at the end.
  22. I think someone like him would be more dangerous in space as opposed to taking it out of the backfield (not that he wasn't tough back there). He will be more difficult to deal with this year if they actually put him out wide and throw it to him IMO.
  23. I'd really like to know your reasoning for implying that Trinity renting out their field is wrong in some way.
