St. X is not my favorite school obviously but I thought it would be a shame if X were passed over with their history.

About a decade ago I was talking to an older gentleman (in his 90's back then) who played for I believe Ashland HS in I would guess the 30's. He said there was a running back or St. X named Buddy Fraizer (I think his name was Frazier) who just ran over him and his team mates. I PM'ed Oxnard asking about Buddy and he confirmed, Buddy was one of the all time greats at St. X who went on to be an All American with Notre Dame. I hope Oxnard reads this thread and can give more info.

 

I am trying to think of a third but no one is jumping out at me. X posters, please jump in. Mo Moorman? Will Wolford?

Victor Anderson - RB - Quickness and speed that left you searching for your strap!! Had some remarkable cuts and runs that the imagination has a hard time understanding.

 

Close but did not make list: Duce Finch - Strong and Fast all time X ground gainer.

Dicky Lyons - Heard stories, never saw him play.

I'm going to go with guys that I have seen play or played with....so basically I remember going to my 1st X game in '94.

Tendi Chariskia (sp?) - I had the opportunity to play with Vic Anderson, but I would take Tendi Chariskia (sp?) over just about any RB in the modern era. A short running back in stature but could run over a defender or just flat out, out run a defender. He i believe was also a state champion in wrestling.

 

Bernard Jackson - what a beast he was for X. A 3 year starter he could run a for being 6'4. Him and Chip Mattingly were a great pair of LBers.

 

Dan Bick - I had the opportunity to play with Dan and I can not think of a player who was more explosive than Dan. He may have been a bit undersized for MLB, but he played like he was 220lbs.

I know myself that I am omitting several more All American or NFL players,

For the X's, T's, BG's, Highlands', Male's, of the world it is almost "easier" to break it down into all decade teams, but tryng to pick the Top 3 is a great debatable topic.

I like this thread....there are a number more that could be considered.

 

As a Trinity guy I hated watching him play because I always knew that he would make something happen for X. But I also loved watching him play for that reason too. He was always around the ball and always making a huge impact on the game. Super explosive player.

Dan was excellent. Had a nose for the ball. A smart player and frankly, just a great kid. I also think it is easier by the decade for certain schools. the list above for recent players is a good one, but those guys aren't top 3 in the history of the school. I liked Bernard, but he never achieved after X, starting just his senior year at UT i Believe.

Bernard Jackson is one I left off the list. Outstanding 3 year starter at LB. Made many BIG plays and controlled many games.... I would like to see a list of Offensive / Defensive and Special Teams , why not by decade...... I am also looking at the players as High School playing days only, college and or pro career has no influence on my criteria...

Correction on the Buddy Fraizer, the guys name was Bernie Crimmins. Don't ask me where I got Buddy Frazier.

What have you heard about Bernie Crimmins? Like I said, the older gentleman I talked to who played for Ashland HS in the late 30's on a pretty good team said Bernie just just ran over anyone who tried to tackle him. All you could hope for was that you slowed him down enough that help was coming and could latch on to him.

 

I PM'ed Oxnard years ago about him Bernie and Ox said he had read about Bernie and said the guy from Ashland HS was correct, just an unbelievable running back and took that same strength, speed and overall talent to Notre Dame and earned All American status and played pro football but I do not remember who for. Later becoming an assistant coach for Notre Dame and head coach for IU. Ox described Bernie as one of the pillars that the X football foundation was built upon. I guess for Trinity the equivalent would be Alan Hennessey.

 

I wish Ox still posted so he could add to this. While Ox could be a real thorn in the butt to us Trinity guys, his posts were always insightful and informative about the St. X program. His posts would always catch my attention.
