In my opinion, there are many sports that compliment a football program very well, and wrestling is definitely one of them. Consider the strength, footwork, conditioning that go into a wrestlers training and that makes it worthwhile by itself. I think that the greatest benefit is the mental toughness of the one vs. one competition. The physical aggressiveness in wrestling has a tremendous transference to the football field, especially on the defensive side of the ball. With all that being said, it is not something that I would want my "blue-chip" players participating in. For the average HS athlete, fantastic. I'm very interested in seeing what happens at CCH because I know that there have been efforts to get a program started for years that have met with resistance.

Harrison County had some very strong teams, not THAT long ago. It is very difficult for them to compete in their current district. Hopefully the kids that have stayed will raise the bar for the younger players coming into the program and they buy into what the current staff is teaching. If the players are not buying in, it is a struggle year after year. Keep working!

I salute PC for playing hard the entire game. Outmatched, yes. Out classed, no. Twenty-some kids on the sidelines & kept working the entire game. Keep your heads up and best of luck with the independent schedule.

No, we don't have that covered, as I was on the field, at the line of scrimmage. Here is what you can do, since you have not played the game of football: Borrow someones football equipment, pads, helmet & mouthpiece. Go run around for about half an hour (not the 2 1/2 hours that the boys were on the field). At the end of that time, see how much saliva you can generate. Next, take that saliva and see what you can spit, with accuracy, with a mouthpiece in, thru a facemask. Let me know how that works out. I know that a player would NEVER embellish his version of an incident to justify a penalty. My last post on the topic. Good luck.

It is all a matter of perspective. I don't disagree with you, but I do see both sides of the debate. For someone not having a vested interest, it is easy to say that it is not a rivalry. For those that are involved, I think they are rivals (In this case I would say from both sides). I do not think the Bengals can hold a candle to the Steelers, but I am certain most Bengals fans would disagree. It all depends on where you are looking at the situation.

Everyone has a team that they "get up" for. In football, in NKY, it is Highlands - CovCath. Highlands is the dominating team without a doubt, but year in and year out, the Colonels are not far behind. To say it is not a rivalry would be the same as saying the Red Sox are not rivals with the Yankees because they have ONLY won 2 or 3 World Series titles.

I do not know who who you spoke to, but that did not happen. There is enough "trash talk" on these sights without bringing inflammatory third or fourth party "I heard" stories into the conversation. And I was field level, Highlands sidelines during the entire incident and when the young man came off the field. I saw the Highlands coaching staff talking to the player. What you have described above did not happen. Period. Highlands staff and players: I was very impressed with your program. Very classy. Stay that way, do not let the extra trash talk effect your game.

I would hope that CCH plays most starters no more than the 1st quarter. There is nothing to prove here. Give the youngsters some playing time and let PC play the game for the pride of competing.

Very fun game to be at & watch. Very impressed with both teams, players and coaches. Sorry that chain gang incident happened, it took away from a very special game to be a part of. These kids will probably never play in this crazy of a game again.

Several ways to go here, so situational is the correct answer. With that being said, HHS knows what CCH is going to run and CCH knows what HHS is going to do. The bottom line when 2 teams meet that know each other so well is who executes and who makes the right calls at the right time. A chess match if you will. Right now, HHS is the Grand Master..... Here's hoping that CCH's staff has been studying the board.

This is going to be an exciting game, but what it really boils down to is who will host the (likely) re-match in November. I will be rooting hard for the Colonels as always, but also respect the talent & tradition that Highlands carries. Anyone that thinks that the history between these teams and home field for this game doesn't mean anything is mistaken. The Colonel players and coaches know what Highlands has done over the years, and I would guess numerically it is worth 7 to 10 points before stepping on the field. I will add that this game will be won as much by coaching decisions as it will be by the players. Coach Mueller has a whole bunch of history on his side, but Coach Wirth is showing that he can get it done. May both teams come out injury free, and with Cov Cath hosting the playoff game ;-)

True, Highlands has been mentioned. This thread STILL has NOTHING to do with Highlands. Take a look at the score. This was a competitive game, not a one-sided blowout.

I saw a very competitive game. Cov Cath ran their offense. Boone's objective is to stop them. I don't think anyone benefits by not playing the game you will play as you move up. Had the score been reversed I do not think Boone (or Highlands, LaSalle, Ryle, etc.) would take their foot off the gas.

Always a good game, great rivalry... Beechwood needs to get healthy for district play & post-season.

You can't be the best until you beat the best. Highlands is it in NKY until someone beats them. When Cooper wins state this year they can become part of the discussion. But it's a long time until December.

I really don't post on BGP very often, but I do enjoy the banter. I was at the game & while the score was one-sided, Cov Cath definitely did not "run up the score". I did not keep a book on every play that took place or on every player that came onto the field, but CCH ran players onto the field liberally in the 2nd half. I may be wrong, but I would think that every kid on the roster had playing time, including the 10th string O-lineman that may never see the playing field again in his career. Dixie played with a lot of heart, but not much ability at this point of the season. Cov-Cath's 3rd teamers were that much better on Monday evening. It becomes very apparent reading these threads who is able to be a fan of a sport and appreciate the kids efforts as opposed to those that have a bias towards one school or the other or the "public vs. private" or whatever other issues are out there. It's about the kids, not your soapbox.

Pretty sure SK goes undefeated this year, beating Trinity, USC, LSU & Alabama to win the national title. They receive a special invitation to play in this years Super Bowl, but turn it down to protect their amateur status..... :dancingpa

Looking at the schedule, I don't see a whole bunch of north of the river against south of the river games this year, don't think they were there last year either. Highlands does not want to play in it, get over it, let it go, move on to the next topic.

Unless something drastic changes from the past several years it is: 1. Highlands 2. anyone / everyone else I am hoping we have some more balance and competition than in recent years. No telling until the games are played.

14-0 cch, all 2nd team / jv scoring. both defenses looked pretty good, offenses not so much.
