Final score CovCath 38 Boone County 14

Nice win for CCH but I have to question passing the ball for a touchdown with about two minutes to go up by two touchdowns. The overwhelming opinion was it was bush league by the CCH coaching staff.

Anyone?

I saw a very competitive game.

Cov Cath ran their offense.

Boone's objective is to stop them.

I don't think anyone benefits by not playing the game you will play as you move up.

Had the score been reversed I do not think Boone (or Highlands, LaSalle, Ryle, etc.) would take their foot off the gas.

Answer me this then,

Why after passing for over a 70 yard TD pass to come within two scores and then forcing CovCath into a three and out, does Boone run three straight running plays and are forced to punt? From my seat the Boone fans were more upset by the play calling of their own coaches then the 20 yard TD pass with 2:34 left in the game!

Why with a 4th and around 15 yards on or near the 11 yard line does Boone go for it with around three minutes to go and then doesn't make it, then complains that CovCath scores on the next play? Seems to me if Boone wanted CovCath to lay down they would have punted. If Boone completes that play for a first down and then throwd another pass for a TD the game is to close for comfort!

This is starting to get old.

CovCath is a passing offense, they also have two of lineman out and have had a hard time running the ball.

I did not hear any complains about LaSalle scoring with 15 seconds to go up 23-0.

I don't think a two TD lead is enough so I can't fault that. Personally though, I would not be passing there. As TOG said, a 2 TD lead is not a safe one. For that very reason I would run the ball and try to run out the clock, not risk an INT or stop the clock with an incompletion. At that point, the clock is Boone's biggest enemy so run it ... run the ball and run the clock.

And to answer the question posed clearly, no I don't think it is bush league to pass the ball with a 2 TD lead.

From my perspective, CovCath had a 16 point lead with two and a half minutes to go in the game and the ball on about the Boone County 20 yard line. Other than one long pass Boone struggled on offense for the most game so CCH could have ran the ball four times, and ran the clock out if they got one first down, or worst case scenario left Boone with about a minute to go in the game, over 80 yards to go to score, no times outs at that point, Boone would have had to score two TDs and two two point conversions just to tie and that includes have to successfully complete an onside kick in the middle of the two scores. In a JV game I ain't buying and all I said was that the overwhelming opinion (by the frustrated Boone fans) was it was Bush league.

"Run Up" the score?

Why or why not?

Put me down for a yes. CCH is in competition for many of the same student-athletes as Beechwood so it is in CCH's best interests to pound the Tigers and pound them hard.

Thoughts? "

Can't have it both ways.....

They should bury Beechwood if possible, but not score a late TD in a competitive game against Boone?

Does not matter that it was a JV game, next year these kids will be playing varsity & they learn from getting reps in.

I understand stirring the pot, but be consistent.....

Wow, sounds like I'm preaching to the guys in the striped shirts....

Been a while since CCH has won a state championship....none since they have watered it down to 6 classes-so I wouldn't brag too much. Can't beat Highlands-so until they do-you can whip everyone by whatever score you want-you still come in second in class 4A just in Northern Kentucky.

I think it is a little, but not completely, apples and oranges.

And let me say this, I don't personally have a problem with what CCH did to Boone in the JV game.

Anyone who has a problem with a team throwing the ball in a JV football game while up 2 scores with 2 minutes to go needs to switch Johnny to a rec soccer league and clear a prominent place on that mantle for their participation trophy. This could be the most ridiculous discussion ever. If I'm the parent of the JV defensive back, I'm excited that my boy gets a chance to actually make a play on a ball and learn how to guard someone.

About the game. I like Wagner the CCH QB, he did a nice job. McDowell is really fast. The offense from CCH did a nice job, the only thing they had no clue on what how to block Thad Moss. Definitely a man among boys.

Boone was inconsistent but the JV has improved some.

Overall it was a beautiful night for football.

A. didn't see any bragging in my post.

B. Highlands, a great program, has NOTHING to do with this thread

C. What is your point?

Go back and read your post #3....

Ummm I've seen Highlands VARSITY take their foot off of the accelerator many times against CovCath....

True, Highlands has been mentioned.

This thread STILL has NOTHING to do with Highlands.

Take a look at the score. This was a competitive game, not a one-sided blowout.
