  1. Fair enough....
  2. Add Boyle County and Ryle to the mix of having been able to beat them soundly. I can distinctly remember a thread this year asking if Mayfield was one of the best teams in the state overall. The answer to that is no. I watch Mayfield play in the state finals. They clearly out athleted their opponent. They ran quite a few screens and a vertical passing game. They are not good enough up front to compete with the big schools. When I say soundly, I am talking about four or more touchdowns. However, don't get me wrong, they are a very good football team. They would, and likely did as I don't know all the opponents they played last year, have beaten many down 5A and 6A schools. I just know they should not have been in the top five in the state last year, and I think it would have been tough for them to be assured of the top ten. There is such a huge difference between the best A ball and the best in the larger classes. And BTW, looking at that pic again, I apologize, it is the victory formation.
  3. I have to ask since you are posting these pics in such a boastfull manor, do you really think that this high offensive line play and poor faking after the handoff would compete with any of the five best teams in the state last season, of which Mayfield was certainly not. They were the best A high school last year. Leave it at that and understand there are many teams in this state last season that would have beat them soundly.
  4. Pretty simple really. Get a psychrometer and follow the KHSAA guidelines for heat index to the letter. Yesterday, no one should have been on the field before 7 pm and that should have been in helmets only with wet towels and ten minute water breaks every 30 minutes.
  5. Practice at daylight.
  6. Johnson Central is comical. They should be embarrased for playing a team like Heath, especially when there were teams like Ryle that they turned down. There is no wonder they are trying to get out of AAAA. The way they are operating their program will never lead to defeating Highlands.
  7. Is this march madness or high school football?
  8. Won every game including a 42-10 trouncing of Cov, who also beat Highlands soundly. Beechwood didn't have a close contest that year. They had a pro baseball player at tailback and a quarterback who started at SS for Eastern as a true freshman. I have heard the 97 Beechwood team was better, but I disagree.
  9. No, Beechwood 1991 was the most dominating run through single A I can remember, not to mention trouncing a Cov Cath team that was pretty good.
  10. The justification is simple. Weight, speed, and competition that those numbers are going up against. Mr. Football is supposed to be the best football player in the state. Jude is a great player, but he is not a division one athlete.
  11. Interesting...
  12. You can't run the table in NKY 2A without getting real dedication in the weight room.
  13. Someone who pays to attend your school if they want to. Most public schools allow it, and it is the way all private schools receive payment for students.
  14. Without coaches in the building, parents should be calling for replacements at other positions than head coach.
  15. If you look at those progams and what they do as "can't be done here", then you should also include their sucess as "can't be done here." What exactly can Highlands and Boyle do that Henry can't? Is Henry not allowed to accept tuition students? It can be enforced. If the coach so chooses, he doesn't have to allow those players to participate in the sport that don't meet the requirements. Now if the administration chooses to not back his requirements, that is a different story. I would think the parents would be excited about this type of discipline.
  16. Two years ago, Central didn't win state. Henry has come up fast, but they still have to get better to reach that goal. I always thought that a football coach should be able to tell a football player what he is going to do, not ask him. I don't consider that a dictator approach, I just consider it reality in most good programs. When Bob Beatty, Dale Mueller, or Larry French tell the kids or parents group that something is going to be done a certain way, it is done.
  17. I agree. That is why it is called a strength and speed program. Both should be worked on if the program is ran properly. As for speed, you will never be as fast as a team like Central. If you want to have a chance to beat them, it will be done by dominating the trenches and making your team as fast as possible. This won't happen if your kids aren't working on those skills during the winter and spring. I am yet to see a basketball or baseball program in this state dedicate to speed and weight training in the manner required for sucess on a football field.
  18. Which ones? Highlands, Trinity, St. X, Boyle County? I think you will find, if they do have an in school class, it is suplemented before and after school.
  19. I am simply saying that if the program is completely dedicated to winning a football state championship, that dog should hunt. To say basketball helps all other sports is surely in jest. There is no substitute for strength, and competing in another sport shouldn't be an excuse for the lack of it.
  20. Perhaps parents, boosters, and administration need to take a look at what programs are doing that are wining championships. It is a common practice. Lifting helps every sport. I don't think your basketball example is the same. Also, there is no KHSAA rule forbiding mandatory lifting. Many districs have that rule, but it doesn't come from the state.
  21. Why doesn't it cut it? There is nothing wrong with making kids lift in the mornings if they are in another sport. It is what sucessful football teams do.
  22. OK, He was not the OC at Washington County. The head coach called the offense.
  23. Didn't Trinity only have 15 seniors this year? With that being said, is it possible that some chose not to play due to being beaten out by an extremely talented group of underclassmen?
  24. If you are talking about athletes that influence every aspect of the game under the athlete section, then Deion Mullins from Ryle would fit under that category as well as anyone I have ever seen.
