Didn't say that they were good, but you are talking about Cov Cath getting beat by Beechwood in basketball!, If I am not mistaken it had only happened one other time in over 30 years, I am sure that Cov Cath had other 'down years" in there somewhere. The year before Shumate took over at Beechwood, Covington catholic lit them up by over 80 points in a district game, class move I might add. So tell me what is the difference between Beechwood and Covington catholic in the past 4 years, hmmmmmmmmm, might it be the coaching of Rick Shumate and staff that has helped close the gap. Remember, the Tigers are in the small school conference in NKY. They should not be able to compete with the mighty Colonels let alone beat them, EVER!

I guess the Moeller connection did Covington Catholic so well in football in the past, they are going to try it in basketball now!

No such thing as a down year at Cov cath. It was their arrogant attitude that got them beat not once but twice that year by Beechwood, and in a down year for Beechwood the following year, Beechwood took Cov Cath to overtime at their place, and should have won, starting two freshman and a sophmore! Bringing in a guy who has no experience at coaching at the varsity level is one thing, bringing him in the CCH enviroment is a joke. Hope he attends mass everyday because he is going to need all the help he can get!

Did it! And at what cost?

During all my years of dealing with school administrators when it comes to hiring, firing coaches and teachers I have learned that they are a lot like used car salesmen. They blow smoke up your tail pipe! Bigger the sale(job) the more smoke! Out of all the coaches who have applied their is one logical choice and he is going to be bypassed for someone with far less experience or success, too bad for CCH and their fans, student athletes, etc.

If Covington Catholic is serious about wanting to win regions, then yes, Rick Shumate is a serious candidate!

Up three Gray secured a rebound in the back court. Pulled up to call a time out and drug his pivot foot big time, trail offical who gave the time out did not see it! and I know I was closer than all of you. That may have made the outcome a little more in doubt at the time, but over all I think it was the best officiated game I was involved with all year.

You are right that Coach Hart coaches for more than a paycheck and loves the game of basketball. That is why he left Beechwood and is now at Holmes!

Walter have you been going to Beechwood practices! I am sure the Beechwood staff could not have said it any better!

Holmes should win, but ask Holy Cross about beating beechwood by 30 then playing them again a week later. Shumate and staff will have the Tigers ready! If Fangman and Cruse decide to play a little defense anything can happen.

when you turn the ball over 25-30 times a game and put the other team at the free throw line 30-40 times a game, you have a tendency to give up a lot of points!

When Kruse decides to play he is as good as anyone in the region! He scored 17 of his 24 points against Holy Cross in the 4th and OT periods. He was very tough to defend when he went to the basket. Other nights he might as well stay on the bus! At times he looks lost on the floor on both ends of the court! Tough to figure out, but when he decides to put it all together watch out!!! He will be fun to watch play!

Looking in todays paper, Cruse is averaging over 16 pts a game for the Tigers. So Fangman is not the only option for them. Just depends if Cruse decides he wants to play on any given night!

This was a tight game until about the 3 minute mark in the 3rd quarter. Boone went to a trapping zone on Fangman and no one else would step up for Beechwood. Kind of the same theme the entire year. The big guys for the Tigers seem to disappear in the big games. Youth for ya I guess. Qryche I do not care if the Tigers gave up 150 points the game Fangman played was by far the best performance I have seen this year, and maybe for several years before that. If Shumate let him he could easily lead the state in scoring. Agaisnt the DIII teams if he played more than a quarter and a half a game before being pulled he would put up 40 a night. He scores well against the others schools even though they put their best defender or defenders on him. Not a team in the state this kid would not start on!

I am sure swapping is going to happen! It is an excepted part of the culture to swap!

Game is at 7:30 tonight. Both teams should provide match up issues for the other! Should be a good game, lets see if Beechwood can get a W over someone other than the DIII conference teams tonight. Holy Cross has played a brutal schedule and I think it has paid off for them. They are playing well and with confidence!

Coach Hart has the Panthers headed in the right direction! Freshman won and the JV absolutely destroyed the Beechwood JV. Beechwoods JV stayed n the Locker room I think.

If Beechwoods JV had not gone 5-17 from the free throw line missing front ends of 7 1-1 they woud have given Cov Caths JV all they wanted. Beechwoods JV team has been struggling. Varsity plays the same way tonite it is going to be a barnburner.

that zebra has a short leash anyway, he gave almost 30 coaches technical fouls last year. He missed the call and Shumate let him know it. He didn't like being showed up I guess.

Boys, I will say it now. When February roles around Beechwood is going to be a team that none of the "BIG BOYS" are going to want to play. Lets see this time last year Maus, Mckenzie and Erdman were playing freshman ball. Nussbaum was playing all three levels and Cruse was hurt most last season. Give these players a full varsity season and lets see what happens. Yes Nussbaum and Maus were playing up full time late last year, but now this is their team. All you experts on here that think they aren't ready you are right, but like a good wine or a well aged bourbon things get a lot better with time and seasoning. Lets talk again come district time, or for that matter the All A.

I heard Dixies coach said if they didn't win by 40 or more that the boys would have an early AM saturday practice! Bold statement if true.
