He is a sophomore. Actually pitched against Beechwood varsity last year, as a freshmen, and held his own. Very high baseball IQ. Should get some looks this summer.

Do you feel like he has plateaued or that his stock has dropped a bit? Did not see him play this year, but based on comments seems as though he has leveled off. Fair?

Both games canceled today at Florence Freedom.

You are right, both schools have a really good frosh class. Odom, Wagner, Doverspike, Johnson, Castleman, Trusty and Sherron, for Beechwood. All have spent time playing with the varsity, along with JV. Odom and Castleman did not play in this game. I was watching from the car (cold and rain) so I could not see which frosh there were for the Birds. I know Ziegler did not catch. Highlands had a short bench so several kids must have been up with varsity. I don't have any stats to share. Trusty pitched 4 innings, Sherron 2 and Cottingham 1 for Beechwood. Again not sure for Highlands. Although I did like watching #7 (lefty)for blue. Looked like he was hitting a lot of spots and had several strike outs. I could watch these two teams every day.. they always play a close game.

I wouldn't call it bad. It is rather tough for the infielders as it is a all grass infield. the left side gets worse hops than the right. It certainly needs improvement and we are doing just that. We added a warning track and padding to the walls. This summer they are turfing the whole field. Batters will always look into the sun at 6PM and we will always lose balls to the expressway.... that we cannot change. The football field is getting a new turf and lighting this summer also.

This is the last year for his son playing baseball. Just like when his daughter graduated he stopped coaching volleyball. Wouldn't surprise me if it hasn't crossed his mind.

I agree. When you are coaching it is for public consumption and open for criticism. Sound bites from the locker room or telephone conversations are not. They are both very dirty. Again, I hope Jeff Trame did not do this.

Like Jeff and Brad a lot... but if Jeff is taping conversations of people then this story is more of an indictment on him than Brad being asked to step down or being fired. People get fired all the time and get new jobs.... but underhandedness sticks.

I wouldn't want to face them in the regional. Having your kids peak at the right moment is a talent a lot of coaches lack.... Baioni isn't one of them.

Interesting. Makes a lot of sense... little goofy looking though. I was never a big fan of the 'creep' step, because as one foot is in front of the other they are not in the optimal position for react in either direction. This method eliminates that. I guess the timing of the hop takes a lot of practice.

I'm hearing that no less then 12 9th Region girls coaches have re assembled and once again petitioned KHSAA for the death penalty for Holy Cross.... this time for playing 6 players on the floor at one time. HHS Coach could be overheard saying that it was not an accident. He saw a practice and they were practicing 6 player plays. Another coach said that he found the clipboard and there were six X's and only five O's. This months meeting will be at the Extended Stay in Florence..... better food. Congrats, lady birds!

I'll take a stab at the top 5. 1. Beechwood - returns nearly everything except a 3 yr starting catcher. 2. Ryle - Returns arguably the best pitcher in the 9th and moved up several strong JV players. 3. Highlands - lost a lot of seniors from last years state runner up, but return Raisor and Doty. Should be able to make another run. 4. Covington Catholic - Team is a little young, but by mid season they should be the same old Cov Cath. 5. Newport Central Catholic - very strong jv team last year and should have several move to varsity.

Big shoes to fill at the QB position. Fieger was under center for 3+ years. Next in line is Brayden Burch. He will be a junior next year.

Not sure if you want to throw Ludlow in that group. Under their new coach they have put together a couple good seasons. Last year they could compete with anyone and in fact came within a out of beating Beechwood for the regional all A. I have not seen the other schools... only to say that Latin has to play younger kids due to most skipping grades as they enter.

Since a lot is put on at what percentage Bezold is, being healthy, I'll base my prediction: Bezold at 100%.... HC wins 62-57 Bezold at 90%.... BW wins 58-55 Bezold at 96%.... tie Go Tigers!

We all know BW will win Thursday, but......Would it be possible, should BW lose to HC on Thursday, that the Championship game be moved to Holmes for a larger venue? Would make sense.

I pictured you saying all of this out loud a few times before you typed it. I would liken your response to two kids fighting on a playground and one kid doesn't find out the other kid had special needs until after he hit him. I'm very sorry RC.
