In what had to be a shocking blow to many, the Holy Cross boys freshmen, coached by Tricia Macke, won the revered Jack Kaelin Boys Regional at Covington Catholic this past week.

 

Just wanted to give a shout out to my man Jimmyfrompiqua and all the other contributors to that thread for one of the greatest "locker room bulletin board" motivators of all time (see closed thread "Is Tricia Macke the freshman coach at Holy Cross?").

So a coach gets a coaching job, takes his/her kids to said school they are coaching at. Whats the issue? Happens every year.

Congrats, Tricia and HC. Tricia's got a big target on her back.... pretty, a celebrity and knows more about basketball then most of the guys on this site. Hopefully HC makes her the JV coach for next year... these guys will loose their minds.

I somehow missed this orgininal thread. Sounded like alot of the Highlands posters were peed off at her coaching somewhere else.

That is not the way it happened. Son enrolled at Holy Cross for a wide variety of reasons, including the fact that a former Division 1 coach was going to be coaching the freshman team, looked like a great fit all the way around. Things didn't work out for that coach, and the position was offered to a couple of others who passed on it. Finally, aware of her extensive AAU coaching background, Holy Cross offered her the job. She took it, fully cognizant and appreciative of the glare that it would bring to the program, good and bad. At the end of the day, Holy Cross is happy that she is involved in the program, they won the region, and the two coaches' kids (Spencer Macke and Ty Houston) scored 169 points between them in the tournament to lead the Indians, a total that I can never remember even being approached for that tournament. I don't know how they could have succeeded any more spectacularly than they did.

Is she even going to coach again next year? Serious question as I heard it was a one year deal by either her choice or others.

Perfect timing. She can take over the Highlands varsity, bring a player or two along with her and problems solved in Fort Thomas.

Duly noted. And I will reiterate, the best run frosh tournament in the state IMO. When kids play in the finals of the tournament, with spotlights and fog, have the game carried on the radio, it is an experience that many of them carry the rest of their lives.
